I think the best feeling after a souls game, is coming back to said same boss after fighting them the first time, and then first time destroying them afterwards. It shows the progress you have made, the struggle that you once had and how you have improved since then. And since AC6 is designed to be replayed into NG++ for the true ending, it felt amazing to come back again to different bosses or more intense situations and coming out on top, or struggling but no longer nearly as daunting as before.

The game has so many good points that the reviewers just don't see, or couldn't see cuz they couldn't adapt to the gameplay. The story is interesting and the banter between everyone makes them all feel alive. While some things are tedious like replaying through the story to get to the different endings (and the perfect mercenary achievement..), it can be kept new and refreshing by trying out new builds, or going back to find things you missed. The potential for mods would be crazy too, so I look forward to them!

Something I particularly like about these games is when you can factually tell you've gotten better.
Like for instance, of course the tutorial boss kicked my ass a few times in my first encounter, but then after having beaten Balteus, the sea spider, the volcano thing, I repeated the tutorial mission and it was a piece of cake, boss included. Didn't even need to use a repair kit. That's so enjoyable.

I will say that one thing I wish the game made clear was the fact that there was more content to be played in a new game+, they kind of just plop you back in at the beginning. Like, yes they make it obvious that there is a separate ending based on some of the late game mission choices, but not everyone will necessarily want to replay the whole game just for those few choice missions they didn't play in the beginning. The fact that like, as early as chapter 1 there are new missions and alternate endings to missions makes it so exciting.
But the only reason I knew about some of that stuff was because of Iron Pineapple

It's annoying because there are actual relevant criticisms, however small, that you could reasonably level at the game. Bosses sometimes leave the bounds of the level preventing you from pursuing and often stopping you unexpectedly in your tracks. Heavy attack warnings sometimes trigger with inconsistent timing. Repair can fail to activate 70-80% of the time on K+M depending on what other inputs you're also pressing. Shit like that. Stuff that is genuinely frustrating even when the game is otherwise fantastic, because it isn't an aspect of the game's design, it's just an error. But instead the criticism is that the game isn't made for you and you bought it anyways. Incredible. This game really shouldn't be for me and even I can see the charm of it and enjoy a full playthrough.

I think the story was decent enough. The main focus of AC6 is the gameplay and customization. You gain a decent attachment to Walter, maybe Cinder and V. IV. The observers motivations made sense, so did the corporations and Ayre'. If you just listen to the dialogue you understand that the coral is a sought after yet dangerous source of energy that seems to have sentient entities residing within it, making it alive. This alone made me want to see the outcome - you have the fate of Rubicon and its inhabitants, etc.
Like what did this guy want? A detailed, scientific breakdown of the corals molecular structure? You can tell super expansive, super detailed, super clear and super developed stories in games but this isn't a requirement. It just needs to be decent enough. Even within storytelling itself, it depends what story you're trying to tell. If you're going for a fantasy epic then the more grandiose elements like the different geopolitical interest, potential race tensions, displacement, war, etc will be the focus. The characters need to be decent enough to carry you through the wider narrative. Similarly to character centric stories, you don't need a super polished wider narrative as its peripheral to the characters journey, development, conflicts, relationships, etc. You don't always need super polished everything. Seems a bit pretentious.
The story was decent enough to make me wanna enjoy the focus of the game: the mechanics and customization.
It always annoys me when people "critique" things based on personal preference alone. This makes zero sense. If you dont like a genre of game, then how can you ever give a game in that genre a decent review? Dumb. Idk why this person would play a game that isn't narrative focused and then complain that it isn't narrative focussed, allowing that to sway the review into an overall negative one. Maybe they're new to FS? Even then, what the coral is was clear enough.
The great filter shall always prevail. May the soul of fromsoft never waver.

Its kind of easy once you figure out you can change your parts to just counter whatever the boss is throwing at you? All other from games lock you into a style which causes weird difficulty spikes but in armored core you can trivialize most fights by just thinking for a minute: are they using shield? No? Then dont use bubble weapons, do you need to dodge a lot? Can you dodge it? Tank up or go movement! And unlike other games you dont need to worry about levels so the only reason your struggling is because your not thinking your ac through. Ppl can and have beat this game standing still because they used the right pieces to do it.

My first playthrough I got crunched up by all those things which felt great, and when it came to (spoilers) the jailbreak sequence? MTs became actually sort of dangerous, chef's kiss.
unfortunately in my 2nd playthrough I'd discovered a broken build so LCs just got 1 shot..
Though I don't necessarily disagree, I just think it's an intentional thing for the sake of elevating the actual threats they toss your way in missions.

I agree, they are easy, but ACs are OP because they are basically Robocops. They're "Augmented Humans" and there's a reason it's not exactly clear where the "human" sits inside the Core. The inner anatomy is... complicated...
The MTs being so weak is actually a part of the lore. The trade off is that while everyone else is piloting mechs like they were in a construction excavator, AC's are like extensions of the body to an AC Pilot. They are biomechanically integrated freaks of nature.
ACs are an anomaly, and that's not exactly the ideal state Mercs would bite the bullet and accept. 621, the Main Character of AC6, is basically like Murphy from Robocop. It's even worse though, as 621 can't talk because the older Gen 4 augmentation left him next to mute. Coral, the game's McGuffin and a sort of psionic-bacterial energy source, shows promise in making the procedure not as crippling or life-threatening, which is a pretty good reason for everyone to be salivating over it.
When MT's see an AC on the field, the voice actors collectively soil their pants because they know it's like a Greek god was just summoned to the battlefield. You're supposed to get the sense that you're OP, because you are. That 621 can take down something like the STRIDER all alone shows AC's are misunderstood by humans, who still cannot comprehend the limits of the technology and frequently underestimate a "fully" integrated and augmented human.
A non-lore reason for them being cannon fodder is to build-check the player to make sure they aren't learning bad lessons about the game. Resource conservation is a design feature, and has been in all AC titles. An all grenade launcher build is gonna run out of ammo before the end of the mission, as they well should.
That said, I also agree with the ammo count being too low. The benefit of pistols should be that their ammo well is deeper, which balances the fact they have to reload more often. Having such little ammo makes them useful only in arena fights. Having them be strictly stagger/arena tools is a bad design decision in my opinion. Ammo add-ons were in the older games, and I wouldn't be against having a dedicated ammo canister as a shoulder mount. Personally, it feels more like a design philosophy issue than a balance issue.

I just found your video and I'd like to say I agree with you.
I like challenging myself so I decided on a build. And bashed my head against the walls of AC6 many a times. Because nothing beats the feeling of overcoming that wall. I got told to go with different builds. Go tank/gatling/songbird/zimmerman. I laughed at them. Because every boss I fought and died to, I saw a glimpse of possibility. That if I dodge different, change direction or assault boost during an attack, I can dodge it, do damage and win.
Fromsoft games have always been games to me where I need to learn a fight. Analyze and adapt. And what a thrill it is when you manage to dodge the undodgable attack. Managed to not get drawn in by a taunt or feint from the enemy you always fell for. That feeling is why we play games.
    Conquest...And fun.

This being my first AC game (and mech game), I felt it was incredibly accessible.
Also, after getting past the first boss, there kinda is an easy mode for people who want it - looking up optimal builds. Personally, I feel that'd take away too much from the experience, but there are builds out there with low skill floor that trivialise many encounters

    • @Davidlstadler
      @Davidlstadler 9 месяцев назад

Not an easy mode, that’s just the way it’s meant to be played. Everyone is playing it like a dark souls game, thinking that the difficulty lies within understanding and reading a boss’s attack patterns. When the reality is that it’s technical. understanding what kind of damage is the boss’s weakness. Many people were stuck on balteaus for hrs banging their head against a wall, not realizing that there is literally pulse guns you can buy that are directly meant to deal with pulse shields. Boss is a cakewalk after that as you can get him in a near constant stagger with the appropriate weapons on!

      @@Davidlstadler
I fully agree that understanding a boss correctly and building for their weaknesses is a big part of the game. Which is precisely why going to YT to "skip" that step is akin to an easy mode, or at least as close to one as people that want one are gonna get in a fromsoft game.

you keep making videos like this, and you’ll do great man. I’ve always had to sit back in awe and on the verge of breakdowns being left with my thoughts and emotions when i play any fromsoftware game. Armored core six’s store is the easiest of the stories to understand from fromsoftware but it still is complicated and not fully understood by me lmao. ac 6 is a great game that is definitely not for everyone but if you like giant robots with guns, explosives, and swords, with a great story, good characters, and appealing visuals, it’s for you. just remember this game is a fromsoftware game(kinda hard), and some *rangling* of the controls/camera may need to be done 😂

In my second playthrough every mission has additional tweeks. One mission asks me to betray my comrames midway, another mission suddenly makes me lose if I fall from the mining walker. Successive completions add to the game even new mission paths.

It's not hard in a way that people think. It's not about blunt bruteforcing and attack memorizing, it's also about adapting and using your brain. Michigan would roll in his coffin reading these reviews, seriously😅

I tend to use a pretty basic build. Heavyweight Tetrapod legs, Dual Gatlings, and dual Earshots.
It does basically everything I need. However, certain bosses don't really keel over like the rest. (Excluding Ice Worm)
When I hit a wall with my build, I dont keep slamming my head.
    *I change my playstyle.*
That is the BEAUTY of this game. So much of the game requires you to think about the build you have and it's limits. But they give you SO MUCH to try and work with. Been a long time since a game has given me freedom.
Or you could run 2 Zimms and 2 Stun Needles and blast through everything...

I try to just beat a boss blindly until I feel like I'm done trying. At that point, I just go on RUclips and find someone who beat it and just copy their strategy.... Not necessarily the build. If my build STILL can't do it, THEN I'll try to use the same equipment. It's worked so far, so don't get so upset.

As far as the length of the game, i think reviews saying its too short is funny. Because as you said, people tend to only play it one time. But I've beaten all 3 endings and all missions, with all combat logs in just over 30 hours 😅 But I absolutely enjoyed the game and know i will still spend a lot of time trying to S rank every level, and plenty of PVP as well. I also dont think it was too short, i just know that my beating it so quick was due to how much i used to play armored core, and understood the importance of having the right weapons and understanding the movement properly

It took me 30 hours to beat the game 3 times and S rank half of the levels in the game (I S eanked all of the hardest levels) and +5 to do a modded playthrough with AC For Answer movement. And I can say, 100%, that this game is NOT short. 10 hours per playthrough on average going for everything is not short. PER playthrough. And each ng+ has new levels as well as alterations to existing levels.
This game is amazing. If you're not that good at this game, simply strive to be better and eventualy given enough determination, you WILL beat this game. And you will enjoy doing so.
Good luck gamers, and have fun.

As an AC vet, I may not enjoy the bosses too much since they may be a bit too anime at times, like Balteus, but i can definitely say this game is great. It's just that it suffers from the classic Armored Core transitional game syndrome like how Armored Core V was, tons of daunting or drastic changes that may be a bit overwhelming, but im fine with the changes. Its not Last Raven difficult but it is up there though. Love it!

Made 4 or 5 attempts to defeat the Tutorial Boss by dodging, ducking behind cover, peak-shooting, being mobile, etc. All of them failed.
6th Attempt: "Okay, you wanna see me MF?? LET ME GET REAAAALLLL FUCKING CLOSE." Melee'd it to death in like 3 or 4 rush-attacks.

I agree with all your points. This is my first time ever playing a From Software games and I choose AC6 because I love big mech like Gundams or Votoms. I avoided their previous games because of the difficulty, but this time I gave it a shot. And boy it was hard, but absolutely fun. Nothing like a relief after defeating a challenging boss. I'm not sure about other From Software games, but I feel like this punishes less than I thought. All an all, it's a solid experience.
One question though. Are the 3 endings unlockable like a branch in mission selection or do they require three playthroughs to unlock? Because when I googled the combat logs guide, some of them are in early chapter missions that has a different route or objectives different than what I had in my first playthrough.

    • @NeoBeelzemon

They require to beat game three times. And even more, if you'll ruin the choices.
And DS games and ER are much more fair and hardcore, than this casual just hard garbage.

Completely agree with your point of view on this. Seems you've been experiencing channel growth too. Good shit. But just a bit of advice... Get a pop filter or run your recorded audio through a digital pop filter or adjust your mic stand so your mic hangs even with your upper lip or nose. That way, your P's, B's, T's, K's, etc. won't be so harsh on the listener's ears. You could also make a pop filter out of a wave cap/doo rag or some panty hose and just bend a metal coat hanger into the necessary shape required for your pop filter. Anyway, keep making vids. Cheers.

It's so funny to me that the game gives you an outright option to both replay missions for credits AND adjust your build after dying to try a different track/angle to a fight and I genuinely love it. Reassessing what I need to approach a fight and trying again to test the results is so incredibly fun and rewarding imo.
People literally want this shit handed to them on a platter/spelled out for them. I pretty much brute forced Balteus but had a hell of a lot of fun doing it.

Had to rage quit the first mission after barely scraping the Boss a few times. Thought the games was for the hardcore veterans at first. Tried again after taking a breather, and realized thre's a tutorial prompt telling me exactly what to do. I urge anyone having problems with a bows to try again. And again. And again. And again. There'll be few games that beat the feeling of a racing heart, watching the slowmo of a finished a boss after countless attempts. 1% health left on the bar for what feels like an eternity, when the pilot enters the Zone, and everything aligns. Turning a certain loss into impossible victory. Kudos to everyone involved for creating this Magnus Opus of mech gameplay.
