    Why ?? I've been an operator for 42 years. ABSOLUTELY no possible way this will ever be more productive than a skilled operator in the seat.

      Its for putting a machine in a harmful situation that would harm a human. IE chernobyl where radiation would kill a person but a machine will operate perfectly fine.

    seems hard to run. I've been told to run equipment by the seat of your pants. meaning you have to feel the machine to run it as it tilts or rocks back and forth ECT. seems like it takes talent to run it effectively and accurate.

    Hi, Folks.
    Do you mean that some poor sucker has to STAND out in the blazing sun to operate that machine instead of being in the cab in air-conditioned comfort?
    More than half the fun of operating these machines is the sense of power and control that you get from being right there in the seat, and FEELING the machine do what you tell it to do. I somehow that the same level of control is possible OFF the machine, even if there is a shady tree close by for the operator to stand under - - - or sit if the employer is thoughtful enough to provide a seat.
    I have never operated a remote controlled machine but, after 50+ years of seat time, I think I'd still prefer to up there in the seat. I learned a LONNNGGG time ago that the machine will only be as rough on you as you are on it.
    Just my 0.02.
    You all have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

    • @sergiosimonetti
      @sergiosimonetti 8 лет назад +2

      maybe they use this way to operate in a poor security task as a minefield i suppose

    • @dplant8961
      @dplant8961 8 лет назад +5

      Hi, Sergio S.
      They have been using RC 'dozers for some years now for various tasks, mainly around large open-cut mines for either overburden removal or restoration, supposedly to avoid the possibility of human injury in the event of an 'accident'. I would suggest that 'accidents' might be a fair bit LESS likely with a good operator sitting in the seat and having 'seat-of-the-pants' feel of the machine.
      Just my 0.02.
      You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

      Agreed, no AC cab? What's crazy about those is how quiet they are in the cab, that will come in handy for Trumps wall project although they do have bullet proof glass in the cabs already.

    • @clintjones1193
      @clintjones1193 7 лет назад +1

      In some mines they are removing the overburden to get to veins of coal or other mineral which had been mined up to 100 years prior by using tunnelling..driving a 100 ton machine over these old shaft is very risky so remote machines can be used to keep the operator out of harms way.

      @Wyatt Duboise you always engineer safety into your operation. There is no way im going to put man or machine in a unsafe or potentially lost of person or machine in that situation. The operator's that work with me are first class and it would be more dangerous with a joy stick driver than a real operator. My opinion with 25 years behind it.

You should see how fast tbe john deer track units they put up furrows go in reverse .. Maybe 20 mph..because in some situations they pull furrows one direction and then have to back up tbe entire length of the field to make the next pass

      Think of risky areas that someone wants to fo something but the operator doesn't feel safe to go. They can do it remotely at a safe distance vs in the cab feeling scared. Say if you work at a mountain edge. The dozer or whatever machine can fall but the operator is just cursing in the background for the companies stupidity of such a terrible location vs him being dead rolling down the mountain in the cab. Also think of a place like chernobyl where machines can get close but humans can not.

    I saw a construction project with a guy strapped to a back-hoe digging a trench down the street.
    And it occured to me that:
    The guy on the back-hoe couldn't see very well what he was trying to do.
    And,
    If the guy was on the ground with a remote to operate the back-hoe it would have many huge advantges.

    Ya because standing outside in the sun is much better than in an air conditioned cab..whats the purpose of this..I can run that thing from the seat better than you will ever dream of running it from a distance
