    UPDATE:
The issue with the duff host shields has been found. The chip labelled AHC on the board is typically NOT an AHC, rather a HC (74HC125 to give it the full title). If you replace that chip with an actual 74AHC125D chip, the issue is resolved. I have now converted 6 boards and all work perfectly. See other video for how to do it.

I've had the same trouble. The chip issue explains why I was able to make it work by lowering the board voltage to around 4.2V. (42 is always the answer). That's not a permanent solution, but was a clue. Thanks for the update.

Arduino Mega ADK has usbhost built in on the main board. however, I tested the usbhost shield module on original Arduino UNO but the usbhost does not work even after soldering a few pads. The usb is perfectly powered. But a myriad of errors during compilation. :(

Do you think an Arduino Giga R1 would work well for this as well?

Sorry I have no personal experience with the Giga R1 so don't really feel qualified to answer.

Is the USB host shield issue a new issue??? I dont see you having trouble with it on your earlier videos from a few years age. Can usb shields be purchased with the correct chips installed?

Some of the branded ones (Such as SainSmart) do work out of the box, likewise if you buy a Mega ADK board (which has build in USB), no issiues at all, however, just about every board I've purchased off Aliexpress or similar has had the non-AHC chip issue, although it IS relatively trivial to switch them over (once you've bought some AHC type chips)

Hi, any recommendations on where to source the 74AHC125D chip (UK would be great) or advice on how to fix/convert?

I ordered some from Aliexpress and they came down pretty quickly. I’m doing one tomorrow so I’ll try to video it.

The only problem here is that the Mega ADK is discontinued and not available to buy anywhere that I have been able to find.
