David wrote "First Rate Town" in his bedroom 10 years ago and never told us he had a chorus! We decided to head back to the studio one weekend and rerecord "Second Rate Town" in a way that we felt it should be heard ❤️

Ive always considered the town I grew up in for 18 years of my life to be a first rate town. I leave for college in six days. This bittersweet song came at a bittersweet time. Thank you Good Kid.

to me, this song changes meaning with the added chorus.
First Rate Town sounds like a nostalgic return to your old stomping grounds and reliving the memories you treasured about it, but Second Rate Town sounds like a yearning to escape from a place that's holding you back and moving on to find a better place.

Oh this hits my heart so much harder acoustic! I always felt a connection to this song, i was born in the main city of my state, it's by all means a "first rate town", there are opportunities, a lot of things to do and literal millions of people and i'll forever be greatfull to my grandparents for sacrificing so much to get to live here and raise their family in a safer place.
Still i feel a sort of existential dread knowing i will probably never leave this place. I dont hate my hometown but it's cold, claustrophobic and there is such a tragic look in everyone's eyes since big natural disasters started affecting us many times in the last years. This city doesnt feel alive anymore, it's painfully ironic that our name has "joy" in it, i dont think anyone wants to stay but it's not like we have much choice in leaving and abandoning everything that was built here.
I wish i could admire a clear sky someday i always loved everything about stars.

I’ve been deciding if i should stay in my home state to go to college or go out of state but I kinda don’t wanna leave my friends and family and my friends want me to go to the same college that they’re going to, but my dad REALLY wants me to go to a college in Texas because that’s where he lives and I’ve got some family in Texas but I’m not sure what’s best for me and this song helps comfort me because is specifically describes my situation

I first heard this version in the little clip you guys posted on twitter right after First Rate Town officially released and I listened to that video so many times thinking it was beautiful and that it would never get an official release. I learned to play it myself so that I could preserve it and spread it in some way. I’m so glad that after all this time you guys made this.

I run a lot, and about a few months ago I was on a run back from the store, I was listening to First rate town. That song now always reminds me of the weather and that route. This reminds me of when I take walks down my street at sunset, and when I went exploring in little secret passageway looking places. this is an absolutely great song! And a recommendation to everybody! take a walk, or run, or bike, or get out of the house and blast this in headphones, or whatever you use. It makes whatever time you spent worth the view and experience :)
