Pretty solid video for beginners my dude! Something that really helped my arrangements become good was thinking of everything in an A-B-A-C pattern. A is the main idea(call), B is a slight variation (response), A again to solidify the main idea of the track, then C is another different variation that helps everything resolve with something like a flourish. Really helps to have a solid foundation then you can get more complex with it as you desire (not necessary at all though imo, most "good" music is pretty simple when you really pay attention to it).

The more I DJ my music and produce the more I understand that minimalism is the way to go. Easier to finish tracks, easier to mix etc. thanks for the comment!

@@Fluxeon No problem! Amen to the minimalism take. Biggest mistake I see new producers make is always trying to get way too complicated right off the bat 😂

The terminology that you were looking for was “phrase”. When writing the melody it’s written in phrases. It’s similar to how one writes the verse & chorus. Each part has a number of phrases. You continue to break a melody into phrase where you would take a breath. In the fashion you choose you can assign different notes or phrases to other instruments or layer/harmonize to bring out the best in each line.

This is a groove based approach.
It’s a single melodic with layers. The approach can be placed just about anywhere. Accents and embellishments can be added as well as passing notes. The only part that you’ll want to avoid is losing clarity or muddying of your sound.
A lot of it just has to fit the genre you’re making.

Oh how I wish computer musicians didn’t say things like … ‘This changed my life’ because it is a sad statement to project …as your life is so much more than being able to create tracks … So very much more … And although there’s not a way I can find here to directly respond to Fluxeons reply (below). I will add to my observation and say that it is you who is projecting wants and expectations onto other people. I am simply trying to help you see this. ✌️
