      Quill the Sanguine Pact is just as good as the Hermetic Order in giving BIG adjacency bonuses. the Sanguine Pact for each lvl you can build a vampire castle that you can build anywhere in your territory and it gives the surrounding resources to your capitol(if placed right your capitol have 200+ production easy not to say food, gold, etc.). however the castle will only give the resources at the time it is built(if you improve the surrounding resource tiles after the castle is built the castle will not reflect the changes, you would have to destroy the castle and rebuild it). Vampire units are nice(can only have 4 max) as they are strong and get stronger across the eras, if they die they will respawn at a castle after a few turns

    Hey quill, if you haven't batch recorded already, I would highly recommend getting that holy site down early, I think there is a +5 spot next to your capital (natural wonders give +2 per tile) and if you get work ethic and desert gods, each adjacent desert tile can give +1 faith and +1 production to the holy site on top of the normal adjacencies. It would hold over your production for a long time and let you use faith to buy builders and settlers in the mid-game.

    • @MrGhosta5
      @MrGhosta5 3 года назад +1

      add scripture and you get more production from your holy sites then a fully built industrial zone. also if you get hildagaurd then your holy site gives more science then a fully built campus.

    I find that you almost have to use the Leader Pools for the Earth TSL map. Drop a half dozen (pick one of Spain/Portugal, for example) and it's fine.
    Georgia is another civ that got changed with the most recent update, so playing them could be fun.
    Hermetic Society is pretty widely regarded as the worst Secret Society, funny enough.
    Easter Egg for the Cat Scout: it says that "one does not simply pet the cat", an awesome reference to Sean Bean's infamous LotR line.

    • @ajmwolf
      @ajmwolf 3 года назад

      Not sure if you play the game yourself, but I recently learned that you can settle ON the Ley Lines, which makes them way more interesting. Just a side thought :D. Then again, I never tried because I never settle on resource tiles. It just seems wrong and I worry that the potential improvement of it is better than the small bonus you get for the city placed on it.

    • @willbrolley262
      @willbrolley262 3 года назад +2

      @@ajmwolf The other thing I don't really like about the Ley Lines is that you're not guaranteed to actually get any. I'm just glad that they changed the location bias a couple of updates ago, so they'd be less likely to spawn in snow and more likely everywhere else.
      Hermetic Society suffers from snowballing: settling on them is weak at the start, but at the endgame where you've got a bunch of Great People to buff your Ley Lines, you're likely already winning pretty hard. Whereas the Vampire Castles, Old God Obelisks and bonus Spies/Policy cards from the other societies let you nab your early advantage. Hermetic isn't bad, it's just the least good, you know?

    Voidsingers are actually the strongest if you play Egypt or another culture focused Civ. The reason is quite simple, the Old God Obelisk has a great works slot that can hold *any* type of great work, including relics. Additionally, at a later tier, they get a special unit that gives you a special relic when it dies, no matter how it dies, that can reduce loyalty of cities (but not flip them), and that is bought with faith. Did I mention that the Voidsingers are also good for religious civs, because the Old God Obelisk also provides your city with four faith, and that is in addition to the normal bonuses granted by the building it replaces.
    The other secret societies are good as well, for the right civ. Vampires are good for military/conquest focused civs, Owls of Minerva are good for economic and diplomatic focused civs, and the Hermetic Order is great for science and production focused civs. I tried the Owls with Portugal, and it makes the already insane Portugal even more insane.
    As for Heroes: Get Maui, ignore all others until you've either gotten Maui or lost him to another Civ. Maui is insane for Desert civs due to his activated ability. If you are going for city states, Himiko is a good second choice, and she can lock you in to a city state hard enough that you'll probably never have to worry about losing it to an AI due to them putting in more envoys than you.

  • @Skycroft1000
    @Skycroft1000 3 года назад +4

    Hermetic Order is not that powerful really. It can be good but you have no control over where Ley Lines spawn and can't tell if you even have any around until after you join. It's better than it used to be though.

America, make sure the civs you do pick don't start right next to each other, etc. It's a pain in the ass not really worth it imo. Random starting location on huge earth is fun though.

    At the risk of spoiling the fun with nitpicking--if Quill is starting this Lovecraftian endeavor as Egypt, it'd be more appropriate for his secret society to worship Nyarlathotep, the Black Pharaoh (edit: if only for in-game story purposes). As this is a True Earth map, Cthulhu worshipers would be more appropriate for Polynesia (near where R'lyeh is) and/or Japan (home of tentacle pr0n).

    Georgia with no room to expand. Seems accurate to me. I guess Australia would be the one with most space in a map like this

      On a TSL map you really either have to curate the civs in the game or accept that it will be extremely imbalanced. Europe will always be really crowded and the other continents could just have one civ on it who can then expand freely if the RNG goes that way.

    Makes sense to me that the Void Singers would knock out the Abrahamic religion center. Badass
