My wife and i are newbies. It's great to have found your channel. We are actually in NW Arkansas but not full-time RV'ers. Watching this video, you can see the excitement of the new truck and trailer. How did you not spill the beans?
We have a 202 397th. Our door at the water bay is warped. It's the second door that has. Now, the one on the opposite side is warped. The front door is really hard to close. Master floor squeaks. Ours sits most of the time in covered storage. The farthest we have gone is from Nampa, ID to Creede, CO.
Key take away for me. Grand Design does have Frame Flex, but they stood behind it. You see an opportunity and are willing to take the chance. to improve your community. More work ahead. OK I'm in! Lets see where we go from here, and maybe a glimpse of where you were years ago. Can't wait. Good tease!
Followed you since the start. We loved your floorplan from your videos and in April of 21' we decided to sell it all. Ordered our 395MS and it arrived in August. Here we sit also with frame flex and waiting to be scheduled for our Elkhart appointment. GD has so far been great to us. Can't wait to hear your updates and how your repairs went! It's our home and mildly worried about the future. Lots of prayers in this house!
I'm not able to travel but I go on all your adventures...thank you for including those of us who are not able to travel and hike with you. I love your message and am excited to see what you're doing this next year! You came to my town, but I didn't know until I watched the episode. I will pay better attention this year. Merry Christmas and have a blessed year!
So sorry to see you have the flex too. GD fixed ours in Texas. Still waiting on our slide to be fixed that broke….been waiting since October. And taking off your decals?? Wow guys!! Hope to see you again soon. Bryan is still talking about getting his one wheel. ❤
Well while Todd was learning to ride his one wheel we think he tore something in his knee - so a quick meniscus repair is on the calendar in 2024 , so maybe keep Bryan in the Tiki Hut lol --- Hope to see you in 2024 somewhere!
Based on what we see in this video I think I we know one major change you guys have coming down the line. Please consider the MORryde independent suspension and disc brakes. It is night and day and even though we also have frame flex (repair 4/22/24) in our 395ms-r, we definitely feel that and the Gen-Y Executive pin box has minimize the damage from the frame flex. Even the SRT team liked our Gen-Y. So, we hope for you guys, no more leaf springs, let alone LCI leaf springs (poor quality steel). Also check into the Goodyear G114 tires for any 3-axle trailer. Another huge difference. Super excited for you guys and hope to see you at the Tampa show. -Pete & Lisa
Looking forward to possibly meeting you in Tampa. Very excited to see what’s coming up in 2024. Hope you can come up to Canada some time we’d love to show you guys around our part of the Canadian Rockies.
Keep Going Forward!!! Yes, we have been watching for year's now and truly appreciate your sharing. Hope you can afford sharing your year's to come on the road. Truly amazing and you deserve a big thanks for all your sharing over the years! You have worked hard for it and it shows, not to mention all the happiness you bring to other's in the rv world! Yes, awesome stuff, please don't stop now.... lol. Thanks again for all you do!
Can’t wait for New York. The last 2 huddles we where at was amazing.. last time my wife and I saw you guys was Michigan.. hard to wait.. but all good .. we miss the crew ..
Well then 😊😊😊 Just when ya think ya got it all figured out...BAM We are at Tampa looking for the perfect toyhaulsr for us. So maybe we will hear or see the news Who ever new that an RV show could be so friggin busy Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄 On best wishes for 2024
Glad to see you’re continuing to grow and not go away. I have good memories of seeing you at Hershey in 21 goofing around with Jim and Kellie. Be safe and Merry Christmas.
My wife Lori and I just love watching "all the things " ! Lol we just bought an older class a motorhome and hope to go full time soon we are looking in to trying to make a huddle this year???? Love you guys! Can't wait to see what new adventure is next!
I’m surprised you pulled the decal off the front with the logo on it. I can understand maybe changing the sides but anyway, change is not always easy and it is bittersweet to see familiar things go. I am downsizing again also. Moving from a 28 foot travel trailer that was stationary to my 21 QB, 23 foot class C so I can live in it. I can’t believe I had so much stuff in that trailer. It has been difficult choosing to take only what I need now and Letting go is definitely freeing. I hope you have a merry Christmas with your family and continue to have safe and fun travels. 💕
I hope the problems are mainly contained within certain years and from what I’ve seen so far 21-22 and the years. I have gone through the same problems with a KZ Venom which had frame flex. Most every unit in 16-17 and some of 2018 went back to the factory to get repaired. When mine was in the shop there were 7 others getting the same treatment and several more outside.
Please do a video of the frame and or repairs. We also have a Grand Design. But its Solitude 310 so several feet shorter but probably the same frame manufacturer. Safe travels!
All but 3 manufacturers use Lippert frames. Unless you are purchasing an Airstream, a Luxe, A New Horizon, or really going big with a Space Craft, you are rolling on a Lippert frame.
We just got back from our second trip from the west coast to the East coast and I think a lot of the problems are the highways. 80% of the highways we traveled were beyond horrible. I just grit my teeth and check the rearview mirror to see if the trailer is still in one piece. Checking spring, axles and lug nuts every day.
Each huddle is different as each park chooses how they want to handle reservations- so the SC huddle is the ticket from us which includes several meals and activities and then you will receive an email with the process for getting your site or cabin.
Oh John you have been silent for so long- I was almost afraid your deep level of sarcasm had left our comments but nope here you are - so glad to have you back!
They had frame flex and breakage over the axles on the crossmembers. Yours looks to be in the front. I’ve got a set of Sumo Springs sitting in the shop and I’ve been digesting everyone else’s experiences with them. Will have to do something with them this week as we’re going to Florida next week.
It’s amazing how Grand Design will go out of there way to help those who have RUclips channels but if you are a nobody forget it. Grand Design had great customer service up to about three years ago. Now it appears since the last original founder of the company left there business model has gone down hill.
Ummm... they don't know we have a channel. Also refused to help with our rear patio door from water damage... so we are paying to have replaced. No special favors for us either. Just want our rv back to normal.
Hdt. I picked up a old smart car under 10k miles …. Kinda useless. I’m a class a guy. But the smart car is fun to drive . Paddle shift on the steering shell. … my wife and I call it zippy…. :)
Your getting a different rig huh? Cause choking up taking off the green stickers doesn’t make any sense to me, n why taking the green off? 🍻(edit: crossing ‘t’s n dotting ‘i’s? 😳…..aaaah huh 🤔) 🍻
Avoid the mooch docking family of Status Quo and Comfort Zone. Their daughter Perfectionism comes along too and occasionally her child Procrastination. When that mooch docking family visits they wear out their welcome fast but most folks do not ask them to leave. Think on this!
I’m sorry to say, but way too many of those fifth wheels and frame and other problems. They really need to step up their engineering and the quality during assembly.
I think it's weight distribution on these larger units. A lot of them have the same frame but with varied floorplans, lengths and weight distribution, they have different stress points. The 390RK has lots of problems - so much weight in the rear with kitchen and basement storage.
From what I've read, the trailer manufacturers send the floor-plan designs to the frame manufacturers and they build the frames. What they don't send are the weight specifications. I suspect that the frames are too light for the loads they are carrying. As @timaz1066 said, it is definitely an engineering problem but one founded on weight issues. The problem lies in the trailers getting bigger and bigger but the weights need to remain low enough so they are towable with 3/4 and 1-ton pickup trucks. Just looking at these rigs on the highway you can't help but wonder how these things don't fly apart. With full-time RVers, the vibration, and torsional forces on the trailers probably exceed the design specifications because the trailers were only designed for occasional use not constant travel year round. Throw in slide outs and the stresses on the body and frames really change, especially with large slide outs. Yes, the stresses have been modeled but how far? I wonder when the frame flex issues actually appeared. I suspect it's been an issue for more than 25 years.
Dude, I was typing the last comment and heard you tear up removing your stickers are you going through man-o-pause. I've heard It can make you emotional. LOL, jk

Good luck guys!
Hey, you should come to Canada ( eastern part, Ontario, Quebec and the Matimes)
Were you able to find out if the frame flex is something all GD fifth wheel owners should expect, or was the issue a one off issue?

We had frame issues prior to SS so that can’t be the root cause
