I can already tell this video's gonna be mad controversial
LMAO, honestly, anything opinionated is. I love bands and albums from all of these genres in some capacity, and if anyone completely inverts my list, no harm done. Music's what you enjoy most! :)
I've never seen a metal youtuber stand up for metalcore the way you have. That's so awesome. I'm a metalcore boi till the day I die. Without a doubt, black metal takes second place for me....Metalcore and black metal are in my S tier.
I absolutely adore metalcore! It's my favorite genre and the one I love covering the most! :D I love all these genres, but metalcore is my home!
Most metal RUclipsrs are older, the metalcore defense is clearly from nostalgia especially when talking about modern metalcore where every band sounds the same, mid 2000's metalcore with bands like Killswitch, As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Atreyu, etc, now you have the Architects clone number 21b.
@@Sumoniggro Not all modern metalcore sounds the same. Yeah, lots of bands sound like other bands, but you're going to tell me that isn't the case with every other genre of metal? I don't listen to a ton of death metal, so a lot of it sounds the same to me. And when OSDM is a subgenre, I'd argue death metal is way more of a nostalgia thing.
sludge in anything but s hurts but understandable
Hey man, no worries. Still a great genre, haha
Bro you should do an album tier list at this point. This is excellent analysis
I'd love to do something like that for different bands/geners, honestly!
Progressive Metalcore is future of metal, no doubt. Probably my most favorite genre. There are so many different unique bands that i really like, like:
Invent Animate, Loathe, Northlane, Veil of Maya, Oceans Ate Alaska, Novelists(15-17), Volumes, Erra, Thornhill, Allt and so on... It's crazy how wide this genre become after the recent Heavener album with songs like Without a Whisper(which is basically a new "My Curse" lol) and it proves so well that Metalcore could be literally mixed with everything.
Not speaking of Djent and Thall being elements of this genre by default right-now, i hope there will be more math elements like it was in Hikari, absolute masterpiece of an album imo, especially the instrumental (this is THAT album that you might enjoy just by listening the intstrumental version of it, Chris Turner power).
Speaking of Melodic Metalcore, i'm a huge fan of Killswitch Engage, Phinehas, As I Lay Dying.
Recently i also got into that sort of Metallic Hardcore? sound(tell if i'm wrong), with bands like Knocked Loose and Johnny Booth, even though i never was a fan of this particular sound before, these bands feel kinda progressive at the moment?!
I'll not be surprized if there's gonna be a Progressive Metallic Hardcore lmfao.
Invent Animate is probably one of the best imo. Like I don't know what it is about their production, but it's better than most other metalcore bands.
@@Zatoka. Same, Invent Animate and Holding Absence are my current most favorite bands out there
progressive metallic hardcore already exists, it's called mathcore
i'll even give you my guide to the modern metalcore scene if you want me to
Putting industrial black metal in D is so criminal, mostly very solid perspective though. Great video dude
I agree with the top the most, when you put Black metal S tier you gained my heart hahaha
Much appreciated, lol.
I agree on Progressive Metalcore with ya. I'm barely scratching the surface with it, but man is it such a beautiful genre.
Honestly when it gets technical it gets amazing. Sentinels is a great example of some prog metalcore with mathcore ish stuff and is sick as fuck.
@@mr.keiser4259 Oooh, I'll have to check them out now!
symphonic and power metal is what got me into metal. Then I journeyed from gothic metal to mostly listening to metalcore, progressive metalcore, and djent now. For Gothic metal bands, check out Theatre of Tragedy's first three albums and Tristania's early works before Illumination.
The placement of dsbm hurt lol.. that's my fav genre
Whoever made this list has to just be making sh*t up. 1st Wave Black Metal and “Blackened Trash”? Isn’t that basically just the same thing?
Not really, the first wave covers more things than just blackened thrash. Mercufyl Fate are often counted. Also there is still new black trash, take Hellripper as an example, definately black thrash but not first wave.
First wave has those Black/Speed(Hellhammer, Bulldozer), Black/Death(Sarcofago, Blasphemy, Parabellum) and Black/Heavy as well. First wave Black Metal also mixed with or influenced by other subgenres
Appreciate the Alternative Metal love. Lots of people shit on it, but bands like Breaking Benjamin and Deftones are absolutely incredible, and probably the best gateway bands out there
OSDM under metalcore is wild
Also why are hardcore and post hardcore on this tier list
I hate how there is different names for the same music really, like Progressive Metalcore, so you mean Djent, or like Epic Doom, so you mean just Doom Metal.
it's different names for different kinds of the same music, there's 1 more djent genre, djentcore and for doom there's also sludge metal, stoner metal, drone metal, funeral doom
My all time favorite metal subgenres are alternative metal, nu metal and black 'n' roll. The latter is a hardly talked about genre, but I think it's a blast to listen to. Since it wasn't in the tier list, what do you think of black 'n' roll?
Pretty sure that the second one was ambient and atmospheric black metal. Not just general atmospheric metal AND black metal. Sorry if i you correct this later in the video, haven’t watched it in full yet but i just had to point it out!
Ahh, that would make sense. I suppose it was weird because why not just put black metal in its entirety as one, then? Since 1st and 2nd wave were there, but then just, nothing else. That makes a ton of sense though, thank you! Still would have put that at S, haha
War metal/raw black metal, these 2 are total different genres😭
I enjoy them both btw, dgmw
true
i enjoy how expressive you are with your hands
5:57 he said proggresive metalcore because if he says that he likes djent people are gonna say that djent is not a genre
lol, i love djent and don't have any harm in saying that. i differentiate prog metalcore and djent :p
Which tier do you pout Kawaii metal in?
if you are looking for some really good Death/Doom I highly recommend listening the demo Forged in blood by the band Sinoath. also a recommendation of a good Speed Metal band to check out is the band Blood Money and their album called Red raw and bleeding. and as for Death/Thrash I recommend the demo called A Creation Of Ripping Death by the band Devastation.
it's missing NuCore :}
I know opinions are personal, but putting Grunge below B tier would be a sin against music, and i'm not just saying that because i live in the Pacific Northwest.
Eh Linkin Park is Nu Metal and Breaking Benjamin is more Mid-Late 2000’s “Butt Rock” (Like Three Days Grace & Skillet). Alt Metal, at least in my mind is bands like Alice In Chains, Helmet, Tool, Early Soundgarden, Rated R era QOTSA, and Velvet Revolver and is usually defined by it influences from Sabbath & Melvins; Sludgy Alternative, Classic Rock, & Traditional Heavy Metal influenced riffs; a slower tempo; dark themes, lyrics, & sound; drop tuned guitars; and often experiments with odd time signatures
By your reasoning, Breaking Benjamin is the most alt metal band of all time lol
@@bobafatty111 except that, like TDG & Skillet, BB’s riffs lack the traditional heavy metal & blues influences of alternative metal and are more derived from the riffs of Post Grunge & Nu Metal. By contrast the bands I mentioned are far more influenced by Sludge & Traditional Heavy Metal usually with bluesy riffs, structure, & guitar solos, though not always.
Wow, this was quite the undertaking! What are your thoughts of this tier list, and is there anything you would drastically change about it / heavily disagree with me towards, and why?! Let me know down below! This was a TON of fun to make. Be sure to like the video if you enjoyed it, as it helps out a ton!!!!!!! But for now, cheers, rock on, stay heavy and have yourselves a fantastic rest of your day or night, depending on when you see this!!!!!!! :) 🤘 🤘 🤘 🤘 🤘 🤘 🤘
Hi metal tempest I saw weezer in concert 10 days ago at budweiser in Toronto. I didn't go to bed until 1 am. Probably the latest I've stayed up. I had the time of my life😊
Black Thrash and Epic Metal are both S for me and currently the subgenres I get the most enjoyment out of.
I don’t know a lot of these genres so I can’t really fault your arguments on them, but glam metal is unironically S tier
I should do this. Where is it on Tiernaker?
"Surely this won't be too bad of a tierlist."
*Proceeds to Put Power Metal at D-Tier*
Damn. You made up for it with Metalcore at S-tier but still.
Glad I redeemed myself!
Dude yes you're singing my song I don't understand half the hate that metal core gets I feel like it has more heart than stuff like death or black
doom metal is so good Earth is incredible so is Boris
I love me some drone music!
Don't be ashamed with your metal core love, the amount of diversity in the genre is insane like you said plus people who hate on it just haven't heard any of the good stuff. Besides there's not this huge war between metalheads and punks anymore, most of us are one and the same
Avant-garde is just the beginnings of new sub/microgenres that don't have homes yet but because of this it is a kitchen sink term that says nothing about what characteristics it has to define it sonically, compositionally or lyrically.
As a death metal/grindcore guy i have been disrespected by this list 😤
neue deutsche härte is pronounced like "noy-a doy-cha hair-ta" approximately
Black Metal in S tier is all I need to know, really awesome shit.
Links to iceberg plz 0:24
i kinda sped through the vid until i looked at S tier and saw this guy put metalcore there and i suddenly felt like i didnt need to see the rest of it anymore
bro why didnt u put dsbm on s?
Listen to thy light and your opinion on dsbm will change
Black metal s tier off the bat is crazy👎🏼😂 but I respect yall being able to listen to it though.
The genre tier list is always a bad idea. Hard to be a fan of all genres.. if you happen to be, it can only be judged based on consistency, legacy and impact
Yeah i can tell you have never actually listened to goth metal before.
I've actually listened to quite a bit. The group I grew up with was addicted to goth metal, both popular and underground and incessantly tried to give recommendations. Was just never my cup of tea or tempo. :p nothing against it as a genre or people who enjoy it but I just was never a fan of it and thought a lot of it felt played out and basic.
@@TheMetalTempestYTGothic-Symphonic mixture is really good. Adastreia, therion, tristania, epica, sirenia, cradle. The list goes on.
What's up with the D tier death/doom my dude... u must not know good bands in that genre
