When i was 21 many moons ago, i went for a walk through the woods in the river bottom. As i started to walk past an old large tree, a .22 rifle round went right in front of my face. I raised my own .22 rifle, and shot three rounds into a string of colored hanging lights. As three lights exploded, i have to say he took his rifle in and put it up. Some people aren't smart enough to even touch a gun. He was blindly shooting into the river bottoms where my family often went for walks on our cleared trail.
I hope that jerk learned his lesson!
Just found out my son’s golden retriever dog I rehomed last month died in a barn fire. My heart is broken. Can’t post anywhere else because it was my son’s dog. 😢😢😢

I hunt solo as a rule, but about 40 years ago a man decided to unload his magnum rifle next to me, it went off unexpectedly and missed me by a couple of inches. I excused myself, went home and took up Archery with an English longbow.. 30 years worth of success and tales most would not believe. I am an old man and no longer hunt, but my Archery years was Hunters heaven for me.
FYI to your comment about unusual amounts of bear around. Idaho approx 9/4/24 two 20 yr old boys were attacked by a grizzly bear hiding in wait. One took the brunt with a badly tore up arm. Proximity so close it took 24 shots to kill the 520 lb bear. The boys commented also more grizzly in the area than usual. Great survival & medical techniques, life flight & cool heads. Koodo’s to the parents that taught these kids. Injured boys only comment to his father “Dad this is gonna cost a fortune.” Lord have mercy, hopefully we have many more of these kids! What is happening to our wildlife population? 🤔

What's happening is that they don't have anywhere to go. There are apartment buildings where their dens used to be. There are businesses where they used to find their food. The bears are concentrated because their habitat is shrinking immeasurably, by the day. Where I live we are overrun with bears in the last couple of years because there are apartment complexes where the wetlands used to be. Humans ruin everything they touch and the rest of the planet suffers for it.

This is amazing how Sahara has embraced hunting with you and hooked for life. I am 65 and wanted a female partner that would be even remotely interested in hunting and fish, and her you go with the ultimate partner. You are truly a luck lucky man. You read my stories or encounters about a year ago, on Vancouver island and in DelRio, where you might be close to now. I have more to send in that happened to a buddy, but shrugged it off. I am 54 and love to hunt and fish, I can drive a boat, back it down and unload it, and load her back up. You just have to stand there and wait to hold the rope. I also love riding horses 😁 you can be my Dad, the one I had hated me , he said I reminded him of my Momma, and when he looks at me all he feels is rage. He died last year, and refused to let me see him in the hospital. My Daddy never told me he Loved Me, but I told him I loved him every chance I got… it hurts so so bad, he wouldn’t even meet my children when I had them. It hurt more seeing him shun my children when all they wanted was there PawPaw.. I am sorry didn’t mean to ramble on 🙏🏼

The reason why Sarah is so hard charging on this hunt is because she likes this or she loves being with you. That's kind of obvious to me. Though she's a terrific fisherwoman.

Yea, dumb shit happens.. Years ago I had a cop draw down on me while I was in my own shop late at night.. Finally told him to put that damn gun away cause he was shaking so bad I was afraid he would pull the trigger.. Sounds like a BS story but it wasn't.. His backup finally showed up and it turns out I knew the backup cop.. Cop I knew and I had a "talk" after the fact..
I've had two similar experiences. They're the product of low IQ applicants and fear based training.
That's a dangerous trend that I'm seeing more and more of lately. Unfortunately, they're hiring the least capable people to become cops. They couldn't care less about the Constitution or our rights. Most departments are going to hate it when we get their qualified immunity removed. Then, they'll be able to be sued and arrested for their criminal acts.

I was hunting in North Central Wisconsin, I happened to walk up on a guy, forty yards away, no brush in between us, he raised his rifle at me, I yelled and he shot, the bullet burnt a trai sideways through my coat, I wasn't able to get to him because he slid out of the tree and ran as I was stripping off my clothes to see if I was hit, I never had so much adrenaline flow through my body, it is very scary knowing there's people in the woods like this!!

Been far north and hunted and fished where natives have only seen a cow in a magazine. Have I wondered what a encounter would have done to me. You bet. And I thank God it never happened to me. But I truly believe their stories. And the jolt to reality would be devastating. God bless them all.
It's not always as bad as some people think it is. I've been closer to them than most people have and I've got very mild PTSD. I like it, it's very mild and lest you think it's strange, consider how many people like fake haunted house attractions. I was close enough to touch one hundreds of times even though I've only had 2 extreme proximity encounters as an adult. My hundreds of encounters occurred between ages 4 to 6 in my bedroom at 616 Alameda Street. 616 is the equivalent of 666 or 999, incase you wondered why I mentioned the address. It has real significance here.

Standing Indian Mtn.NC. About 5,700Ft. Hiked it twice. 3 dudes and I once stopped to rest up on the top ridge section. All of a sudden we noticed a white hair bearded guy sitting on a log, 20ft away. Certainly no one saw him walk down this long stretch to sit down. We joked and all agreed it was Jerry Garcia. He got up eventually and walked toward us down the trail. We all had sense of danger. He nodded, we said hey. He walked on out of sight. Never saw Jerry again.
That female Sabe might be pregnant, with the pot bellie. Cool❣️
Your experience of the old hunter pointing his gun in the direction of you and Sarah reminded me of an incident that happened to my granddaughter and her boyfriend earlier this year. They went out hunting and were wearing the orange vests etc. At some point they heard a shot and my granddaughter heard a bullet whiz past her. They turned to look and saw a couple of old men hunters. They yelled in their direction and waved their arms to make sure these guys saw them since they seemed blind to the bright orange vests. The hunters looked at them so they figured the incident closed. A minute later a shot rang out and a bullet flew by close to them and before they could even turn around 2 more shots were fired in their direction. They were both mad and upset and decided to leave the area before something worse happened. My granddaughter and her boyfriend were only 19 yrs old but had enough sense to high tail it out of there. I did wonder if these men were intentionally aiming at them

There are some boneheads out there for sure. I'm thinking the guy was just using his scope to see you, might not have had glasses. Always the optimist I guess. But still, not cool.

My hubby wouldn't hunt with me. ....said he hunted enough in Vietnam he'd never hunt again. That being said, he was always there to help cut and wrap whatever I brought home for the freezer, and enjoyed it on the table (and he would cook up a mean chili recipe using deer, elk and beef! Yumm!!)
I certainly miss him and as much as I love it, I don't hunt like I used to since it's just me on the farm now.
LIFE is a precious commodity, and every day should be cherished as a gift...

The elk here up north in Arizona, long the rim ( mogollon rim) should all be screaming. We've had plenty of rain up north that usually sets them off. But I am a desert rat. I need to get up there and check it out.
