It's always funny when people learn about Jason from just lore and imagery but when they watch the first movie they are confused. It didn't start as Jason is going to be the killer. Also feel bad for the snake, they really killed the snake and it was a guy's pet. He didn't expect them to really kill it. Tom Savini was really naive about it. Looked at snakes as property that could be replaced.

"he's huge, isn't he?" etc etc) i did a little evil cackle to myself. i love how jason's such a horror staple that he throws u off this movie entirely - he's the face of the franchise, he's the big scary slasher man everyone's expecting to see, and yet he doesn't even start killing people until the sequels. iconic.
You guys gotta remember, these movies were scary back then because these were the first of their kind. By the time you started getting into horror there was a plethora of these types of movies and a lot of people have become desensitized since then, especially knowing the cliches and tropes. None of that existed then. They were the ones setting the bars and the rules of slasher-horror. So it’s only natural that you didn’t enjoy or found it scary.
10:49 According to some of the people who worked on this film Betsy Palmer (Mrs. Voorhees) had some trouble getting used to acting in film. She was primarily a stage actress. She didn't quite understand that through the power of editing and cinematography, one could make fake punches and slaps look real. In a stage performance, the only way to make hitting someone look real is if you *actually* hit them. What this means is that during the first take of this scene when Mrs. Voorhees slaps Alice, Betsy Palmer actually drew back and slapped the shit out of the actress, Adrienne King. Apparently, this caused King to go down pretty hard and start to sob, but after a brief break things were reset. Palmer was told she could just pull the slap last second and they'd cover it up using different angles and editing.
This was filmed in 1979, so obviously no "great 80's kills". ;P Of course it's bad, is was designed as a Halloween ripp-off. And because of Halloween's success, Paramount decided to handle it not as the B-movie it was but like an A-movie, considering advertising and the amount of copies they released. Almost every 80's slasher film was iniciated through this (even when filming Halloween II they added more bloody kills instead of maintaining the original's reserved style). Tom Hank's debut "He Knows You're Alone" is one of the few exceptions which "borrows" directly from Halloween. Psycho & Peeping Tom are the grandparents of the slasher genre as we know it, Black Christmas & A Bay of Blood (aka Twitch of the Death Nerve) are the parents, Halloween was the obstetrician and Friday the 13th was the naughty cousin who slept with everybody.
It wasn’t Jason who was killing it was his mother because Jason didn’t know how to swim and he drowned in the lake so once the mother found out she was killing them jason comes in the sequel
From what I'm aware, this movie had a lot more kill scenes and shit, but at the time it was 'too much' and they threatened to give the movie an X rating if they didn't get rid of the scenes, so that's why a majority of the kills just happen off-screen
Upgrade is an action scifi movie, not a horror. Just because the director made horror before, doesn't mean he's going to continue with just horror. Directors can be versatile within their work.
Well this is coming from a guy who didn’t even like Halloween so I didn’t expect you to like this one. But if you were just watching just for the kills then that’s a problem. Because it’s not just about the kills the whole point of the original Friday the 13th was the build up tension suspense and atmosphere and there was offscreen deaths for a reason. Because the audience likes mystery it’s called fear of the unknown and you might not understand that but it’s OK. But hey man if you are just tuning into the Friday the 13th franchise just to see some entertaining kills then start watching the sequels because in part two Jason makes his debut and he doesn’t get his hockey mask until part three and part three is loaded with some pretty entertaining kills but part four was my favorite sequel.
You should totally watch black Christmas, I feel its one of the best classic horrors besides child’s play and scream, also fun fact it was the inspiration for Halloween
Glad you’re checking these out! They really don’t get crazy or too bad until the last couple which is rare for classic horror series like these in my opinion. Lol
Is Scream the next classic slasher you’ll be reviewing? Cause I think you’re running out, all that’s left is Scream, Texas Chainsaw and Black Christmas Also, you should try to decipher the movie Mother! See the reactions will be If you watched Hereditary and Midsommar, you gotta give that a try

Although this movie was boring, I do appreciate how it introduces Jason and his mother ,letting the audience know what expect for the next film and those after
Check out the sequels. That's when the awesome kills come in. The first one isn't the best and definitely not one of my favorites. Jason doesn't show up till the second film out of vengeance onwards.
Lots of people go into this movie with high expectations, which I totally get. This movie can definitely be boring during times but I still enjoyed it. The second one is my favorite

Not sure if you guys have watched this movie or not--but you should definitely do a reaction to Sleepaway Camp. Had me traumatized for a few weeks after watching it.

Disappointed that you guys weren’t big fans but not going to dislike. Like you said, I cringed a little every time you mentioned Jason, only because I knew it was informing your expectations. This one is almost a little more fun on the re-watch, once you know it’s Mrs Vorhees and can look at things from that perspective… why the girl had no problem hitchhiking, why no one is creeped out or concerned when they encounter her. I personally struggled to get through any of the sequels so I don’t know if they’re even worth your time. Someone else in the comments mentioned Darkness Falls, and I agree! I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I do remember finding it pretty creepy as a kid. The omen is an interesting one too if you haven’t seen it.

Friday the 13th is a seriously tedious watch, you can say the twist is great, but it comes too late and it's a dynamic that doesn't redeem the film as a whole. Halloween definitely blows this out of the water.
I prefer people that actually give commentary like this, not people that watch the movie then go “it was good, like and subscribe” Also, yeah this movie is really just to tell how Jason died and how his mothers story went. It is kinda AIDS. Sequels are a bit better
The scariest thing is that you guys thought that a Friday the 13th movie was gonna be good lmao. No one likes them cuz they're good. Can you review the Fear Street Netflix Trilogy?
You should watch Amityville Horror (2005) with Ryan Reynolds 😎😎
Jason’s the killer in part 2
He’s also the killer in the rest of the Friday the 13th movies
I'm pretty sure 4 and 6 are the only actual great Friday the 13th films, you even have Jason running around the entire movie killing people. The rest kind of suck doe
you should watch the 2009 remake I think you might fuck with it It has solid kills and a decent story line, and decent pacing
