He may not have anyone. Some people just don’t even think they are worth help so these tactics can be a last ditch. Rejection from strangers isn’t as bad as rejection from friends or family. Ya just never know. Better to just let the person reach for help regardless because they need help.
If you need help, please reach out for help. So many have gone through hell these past few years. I mean like half the planet. For real. Many have made it to the other side and can help you. There is much more understanding of mental hardships than we use to have and waaaaaay less judgement. Why? Because we have ALL been there.

Yep 👍 my Fiance took his life in December and it is absolute agony. I have never, ever felt pain like this. It also passes suicidal ideation onto those remaining.

I'll tell you a little miracle 💙 my baby brother died on the 1st April, 💔, and this song is in his Spotify playlist. A week after his passing, my husband and I came home from being out for dinner and we went to turn our garage light off as we were walking inside. The light wouldn't turn off! My husband kept flicking the switch but the light remained on. So my husband took the light bulb out and the light still remained ON! My husband is holding an unscrewed light bulb in his hand and it's lit up, we took a picture of it 🥲 after that happened, I didn't realise until a few days later that this very song, was in my brothers playlist. "I will leave the light on" I truly believe it was him leaving the light on for us and sending signs 💙💙💙

I know this song is about addiction, but this song got me through some dark times where I was suicidal. I was alone and isolated and had nothing to live for, but then I heard this song, completely by chance. It was just a small bit, but I had to hear it again, and so I looked and looked and then I found it, and I listened to it so many times that I got myself the help I needed, because for the first time in a long while, I felt something other than nothingness. I know you’ll never see this, but thank you for this song. For saving me and helping me through my darkest time.

Tom, when this came out I was homeless, in and out of jail, and unhealthy. Now I have a house, a good job, and a husband. This song and “Clover Cage - The Lone Dancer” are the two songs that helped with my depression. I just want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together. I love you ❤😊

Reading this and hoping you've made it to month 3. If not, just start at day one again. It's okay. We don't all get it on the first try, but if you try you'll be okay. In these days with Fentanyl cut into everything, one more day without is one more day you're alive.
My mum died in November and I used to play this for her cos she loved it. She’d sing along to the chorus as best she could. Today is first day I’ve been able to listen to this again and I keep thinking how cool my mum was. At 73 years of age she could still spot a quality tune. This song will always have a special place in heart.

This song moves me to tears. My mother had several strokes before Thanksgiving this year due to afibrilation (irregular heartbeat). Drugs were never an issue for/with my mom, but I can't help but feel like she’s lost right now…and I will ALWAYS leave the light on for my mother.
Wishing your mom, a quick recovery. I always come back to this song now and then, it gave me comfort when my late mom was sick, she was in so much pain we all knew we had to let her go.

I was an alcoholic for 4 years. I was self medicating because I was so alone since leaving home and being cooped up in my apartment for so long everyday all alone. It took me through my grandpa getting sick when I’m sitting by him in his hospital bed he took my hand and told me “When I’m gone, promise me one thing, let me look over the grandson I always knew and loved. Get clean.. Not just for me, but for you. I don’t wanna see you up there before anyone else.” That was it. I took the step and got clean. I interpret the lyrics in the way that no matter what you’re not alone. There’s people in the same situation as you. And even if you get lost down the road, or feel alone or struggle with ANYTHING in life, just like my struggle with Alcohol, there will always be the one place or one person who will always welcome you with open arms.The house up on the hill. Which for me, was Rehab. There will always be somewhere where they will welcome you even if you have made mistakes.. we all do. And if you lose track of what you started, there will always be someone or something that will leave a light on to get you back on track. 🤞🏼☝🏻❤️
Ok I'm upset now after reading this cuz I suffer really bad with depression and I was in a really dark place and my nan was sick she was asleep so I could talk to her but she couldn't talk back. I was self harming at the time and I couldn't cope. One day it was real bad and my mom sat me down and said she was getting worse and that she might go soon, 2 minuets later she got a call to say come in I was there in her last moments and I lost my best friend that night. Ik that I don't have it bad ik people have it much worse but I just wanted to share.

Jay it's all good man. The internet can be a toxic place for somebody that's opening up and saying stuff like this. I lost my dad when I was 10. I lost my dad and my best friend. I wish I could tell you the pain goes away, but it doesn't. You might be able to put it aside from time to time but there hasn't been a single day that I didn't thaught about him. Your nan will be with you in your heart though, like my dad is with me. Hope you beat the demons inside of you.

As a man who almost literally gave his life to addiction and still struggles with lower forms of addiction this song hit home hard, its amazing how certain songs can pull me out of most forms of stress, depression and anxiety, this makes me think of all the stress and hurt my loved ones went through due to my addictions, to any addicts of any form lean on the ones who care for you, dont suffer in silence, i assure you you are not alone me and millions of other are right here with you 🙏

This song is so good but it makes me so sad. My wife completed suicide 6 months ago and I cry when I hear this song just thinking about her struggle and how much pain she carried in her life up to that point. It breaks my heart that I she couldn't see the goodness that was all around her because it was just too dark in her world. If anyone reading this is considering taking your life, please hear me out - your light shines so much brighter than you think it does in this world. The lie in my mind is that you think nobody will care. My wife thought the same thing. But at her funeral, people showed up and just had an outpouring of love for her. One person after another shared how profoundly she had touched their lives and the hole that was left without her being in it. Most of those people hadn't seen her in years, if not decades, but they carried her light with them in their lives and it was painful for all of us when that light went out. It's a horrible horrible lie that this is the best way to get a break, or to get rest, or to get hope - just like the saying goes: it's a very permanent solution to a temporary problem (even if the problem seems like it's permanent).

I would highly encourage you to talk to someone, anyone you trust, if you ever feel low like that. I have never felt that in my life until my wife died - then I out myself on suicide watch for a long time after that. It was the most embarrassing thing I've had to do, because i had to admit that i was struggling in a way I never had before...maybe the most embarrassing thing is ever done. But looking back, it shouldn't be. There have been so many people that have shared with me that they struggle (since Ang died) and I think this is a much more common struggle than people realize, but it just feels so lonely when we're in the middle of it! (At least, it did for me, and i know it did for my wife). Anyway, I'm sorry for the unsolicited advice. This is just very close to my heart now.

4 years ago I played this song to my bestfriend who came out of ice addiction and she was struggling bad. I told her to play this song whenever she feels alone because I'll always leave a light on for her no matter what mistakes she makes, because we all lose our way.
She was suicidal and in a bad state. She had always been depressed since I met her at the age of 13 and that's why we got along so well- because we were always there for each other.
2 months ago she intentionally drove her car off the road and died. My heart is broken, my light was always on for her and now she's gone. This song means more to me than anything.

Its painful losing someone is the most pain you will go through and dealing with something as personal as this is awful. I truly hope both you and her family will feel ok in the future. Know that (and i understand this may sound hollow coming from a stranger on a youtube comment but just hear me out) things will get better for you. They may never be the same but it WILL get better than it is now i promise. A few nights ago on the 19th of January 2019, my mother was celebrating her birthday with her friends at a music festival when suddenly she had a 4th degree brain hemorrhage, which from what I've learnt from the doctors means that a blood vessel in her brain burst and started bleeding severely. She then had a seizure, and later at the hospital had another brain hemorrhage. She nearly died, and has been in a coma since that horrible night. It's now the 23rd of January 2019, so it has only been a few nights and there is still a risk of her never waking up or being in a completely vegetative state, but our family and friends and I are praying for her to wake up. When (yes, I am saying when) she wakes up she will obviously have a lot of brain damage, and I am praying that she will overcome the depression and suicidal thoughts that a lot of people with her injuries have experienced. I am praying she remembers me and my sister and her family, and I am praying that the effects of her brain damage are things that can be relearned (such as talking, walking, if she forgets how to do either of those then she can relearn them hopefully), and that her permanent effects will not be too severe. I am 14 years old and my mother has to attend my graduation, my wedding, and one day meet her grand kids, so she can't leave yet and I'm visiting her everyday until she wakes up. I might not be able to visit everyday when school starts, but I will be visiting as often as I can. But anyway, this song reminds me of her. I listened to it over and over after I heard about her condition. My mother was never a drug addict or anything or that sort, in fact she was perfectly healthy and we've speculated that the most likely cause of her brain hemorrhages is because of an accident that happened back in December when she accidentally tripped and hurt her forehead on a stage and never got it checked out at a hospital. But this song still reminds me of her. She is being heavily medicated and drugged to keep her in her unconscious state for the time being so her brain can start to heal, and I talk to her and message her everyday and I want her to know that when she wakes up, I am going to be with her for the rest of her life and I will support her and love her so much everyday. And that when things get rough for her due to her condition, I'll leave a light on for her and help her get through it and love herself.
If you are someone who knows somebody going through a hard time, no matter what it is, here is my word of advice on how NOT to comfort them. My friend today messaged me and asked how my mother was doing in hospital. I replied, then my friend proceeded to message something along the lines of "cool okay so how has everything else been going? by the way, I'm selling phone cases for 10 dollars, so let me know what pattern and colour you would like if you want one!!".
She did a couple other similar things too these past few days but it isn't really appropriate for me to complain too much on here.
Needless to say, she is not my friend anymore. And I don't care if she is just a dumbass 14 year old.
If you have a friend who is going through a hard time, do NOT trick them into thinking that you actually give a damn. If you truly care and feel sorry for your friend, please offer your support as they really do need it during their grieving process, and for a long time afterwards. But if you don't give a damn and are going to just pretend that you do for your own personal benefit, fuck off.
(I'm rereading this after my most recent edit on the 4th of March, and the friend mentioned here has apologised for the inappropriate ways she reacted that I haven't mentioned here, so I am now on good terms with her, but this still applys)

I here this song, and in my head are the words, "There but for the grace of God go me and mine" . There is a whole story behind that line. Stood in a cemetery in West Calder, I listened to a man who delivered the sermon NOT about the person who we were all saying good bye to, but his story. And how 10 or 15 years ago someone left a light on for him, he said God found him when he had reached the bottom of that dark dark damp pit. His words will live with me forever, it was in that moment I understood the hurt, pain and struggles of others, it was in that moment I knew I will never judge the person, but learn to tackle the situation.
