- One week into the re-opening of the South Shore Line passenger railroad at the brand new double-track platform station at the 11th Street stop in Michigan City, Indiana. This train was Westbound to Chicago, IL on Saturday, October 28th, 2023 at 12:42pm CST.
R.I.P street running tracks
It's called a gauntlet track, as you stated, trains not stopping or servicing the station will use the outer portion of the track.
Awesome thank you!
@@Lincolnstrains Freight cars are often less...good about tolerances, and sometimes freight crews will ride the ladder on the side of a rear car for backup moves, so they like being further away from any obstructions. The gauntlet track lets them have extra clearance through the station platforms.
Great catch and nice video lincoln
This new double track will be great for railfans as an increased amount of trains will be coming through
@nolantherailfan5048: There will definitely be more trains in both directions now and freight trains too.
When Will The Double Deckers Be Back
I am not totally sure that’s It back up and running, but previously the double deckers would only run at the peak hours/days.
Why did they build a side platform instead of using tgst one in the middle?
Wch type 4 e bell
I wonder why they chose that platform layout
I thought the south shore did away with running down the streets tracks
I was just in Michigan City, and the new track layout seems forced into the city's fabric. I wonder if they couldn't have double tracked the street running without tearing the Hell out of surrounding real estate. Maybe in time it will grow on me.
3tracks hummm? Must be Lionel.
