We Tried SCUBA DIVING on KOH TAO (one of us failed...) Thailand Travel Vlog 2023 w/La Bombona Diving

In this Thailand Travel Vlog, we head to Koh Tao for the first time ever!!! Not only was it our first time on this paradise island, it was also our first time scuba diving! Neither of us are very strong swimmers and we had never tried scuba diving before so we weren't sure what to expect. We were invited to do the Open Water 20 Course with La Bombona Diving. This was perfect for us as the owners of LBD are from Spain and Scotland so the dive school is completely bilingual (plus more!). Our instructor was even Catalan (just like Carles 🤗)! Carles was able to ask questions in both Spanish and Catalan when he didn't understand something. We were also both able to take our quizzes and tests in English and Spanish, too!
We were very nervous to try scuba diving. Luckily La Bombona is one of the best diving companies on Koh Tao! They made us feel more relaxed before starting and the open water 20 course was great because you start slowly. On our orientation day we got to meet the other members of our scuba diving class and we also got fitted for all of the scuba diving equipment. We then had some homework and quizzes to complete after class.
The first full day started in the classroom doing theory and learning so much new information about scuba diving! After lunch we went to the swimming pool where we were able to practice important scuba diving skills such as learning to breathe with a regulator, taking the regulator out of your mouth underwater, and even taking your mask off underwater and being able to put it back on (underwater)!
On the second day we were back in the classroom to finish the theory part of our open water course. After class we had to take the 45 question exam! You're only allowed in the ocean once you pass the exam. Luckily we all passed and went out on the boat to do the first 2 dives to 12 meters.
The third day is an early start to do the final 2 dives down to 18 meters. That's 60 feet deep!!
Even though one of us didn't get certified, we still recommend diving with La Bombona (and also trying to scuba dive at least once in your life)! They made us feel much more comfortable and they were very supportive when I didn't want to go any further! Plus the scuba diving in Koh Tao is amazing!!

Great Video, Natalie.. Congratulation to Carles!! Please do not feel discouraged.. Please try again sometime in future!! In the meantime, please try free-diving!!! Especially at Koh Tao, Koh Lanta, and Koh Maa, there are many beautiful free-diving sites (less than 10 meters depth) and you don’t need scuba diving certificates to go there!!

There's always next time. Perhaps a 15 minute meditation before going into the water would help you calm down when you do the dive.

I used to been there a time to snorkeling but I can't scuba. I hope both of you go to the next one at Similan island, it's best diving spot in Thailand. 😊👍🏻

Im a fire fighter from the 90's The breathing apparuts they made us wear and run with for training, I wouldnt be scared of postive or negitive pressure mask, I smoke heavy, Snorking take's me a few mins to claim down, even with my experince

very nice video! Are you shooting underwater videos with Gopro? Did you use a filter? In your underwater video, some videos are very clear, but some videos are not very clear, is it because of different underwater depths? Or is it because of the different cameras used?
Yesss it was a GoPro! We used a slight filter on some videos, but maybe like 2 out of all of them. I guess the clarity was different at different diving sites? 🤔🤷♀️
