For people wondering why the interior isn't leather, its cause the Japanese believe that wool is a more luxurious material so they use it for interiors on high end ultra luxury cars
It's hard to understand the Toyota Century if you don't understand the Japanese culture. The car has such an immense presence when driving it around Tokyo.
@@effspot imagine the tourists from china visiting croatia bosnia srbija russia and alabnia xd chineze tourists visiting a mansion ( uh this is not even luxury wtf ) chineze tourists visiting a retirment home or some grandmas house (now this is luxury they have surpassed us long time ago)
Read an entire article about this car, the interior is designed to feel modest, I believe the quote was along the lines of "the head that stands out is the head that gets pinned", leather is believed to be noisy and obnoxious while wool is more conservative, this theme of luxury in modesty is carried out throughout every design aspect of this vehicle
Hybridizing the Century is such a good idea. V12s are smooth but hybrids are smoother. Perfect for luxury applications. I kind of want to import one of these. I hate used cars generally because they are often mistreated and poorly cared for. But buying a used Century from Japan, I would feel confident the car was well cared for both maintenance-wise, and driver-skill wise. I'm not really into Lexus so this is perfect.
Thats an over generalizing. Many cars are owned by older couples that barely drive them and keep up with full maintenance. And it shows when the feel and look of the car is lightly used.
For those commenting on the wool interior instead of leather, Toyota explains that in Japanese culture it is considered rude to have people sit on s seat surface that will make noise. Leather is noisy. Again, this is specific to Japanese culture.
Anyone notice the reflection on the paint panels? They're near perfect images! Legend says the makers painstakingly sand every inch while checking that the reflection isn't distorted. True? Another rumor is that velour is used for the seats because the Japanese hate the noise and heat/sweat that leather produces.... specially in the hot and humid Japanese summer. ....and that the owner best wear a Grand Seiko. L🤣L
It's true, only 4 people in the world are qualified to paint this vehicle, using over 7 different materials, wet sanded and polished by hand, the paint is supposed to be so reflective that it can double as a mirror
It's amazing to see different cultural interpretations of luxury, so different from a European ideal. Although it doesn't appeal to me I can imagine those cloth seats would feel warm and comforting and probably stay looking like new for ever.
When you see really expensive car from the start of 20. century, you will see that they usually have leather only for chauffeur, for passengers was expensive fabrics used.
Was scrolling through videos about the Toyota Century and was delighted to find out that you had one. I love how quiet the vehicle was when you rolled up the windows.
