When (Alleged) Serial Killers Become Pen Pals

- Acording to the man known as the Happy Face Killer, Keith Jesperson, Jesperson wrote to Rex Heuermann and offered him some advice. Heuermann is currently incarcerated in New York, where he has been charged - but not convicted -- of being the notorious Gilgo Beach Serial Killer, also known as the Long Island Serial Killer or LISK.
Jesperson says Heuermann wrote back, thanking Jesperson for writing.
Heuermann has been charged with three murders and is suspected in a fourth. No one has been charged in connection with other bodies found along Gilgo Beach.
Jesperson has been convicted of 8 murders and is serving multiple life sentences in Oregon. He claims to have killed as many as 160 people.
AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: WHILE HEUERMANN HAS BEEN CHARGED, HE HAS NOT YET BEEN CONVICTED. Jesperson has been convicted in the murders of eight women.

If I was accused of being a serial killer…and was innocent… I’d never humor another serial killers pen pal request. Seems like Rex has found one of his own and can’t see what it looks like from the outside.

Lee, Jefferson actually did gave Rex some good advice, if you think about it. Rex didn't have to respond to the letter. So by doing so, and answering in the manner that he did, suggest to me that he "might" be considering a confession.

Thank you. I find the letters between the two very interesting wish there were more. Maybe Rex is getting his financial things in order so he won’t lose them, I’m not sure that will help I know some things have to be changed five years before switching in order for it to be safe from lawsuits, etc.

What a bizarre piece of news this is. Perhaps prison systems should have meetings of SKs. We could possibly learn a lot.
I don’t think they should be allowed to talk or correspond with each other. It’s disrespectful to their victims.
Things are certainly different in prison now than when i was young. 45> years ago, i knew a young man who went to prison for 4 years. We werent writing about serial killings, of course, but he was careful not to sound guilty of any crimes because his letters, both in and out, were closely inspected. The letters he wrote me were also heavily censored by the prison authority as were my letters to him, and we were not writing anything criminal or sexual or romantic. The questions about butter likely would have redacted in case it referred to something other than food. They were overly cautious back then. I cant imagine letters like these being allowed at that time.
