Some movies can make me cry. Some movies can make me laugh. Some movies even have parts that make me cry and parts that make me laugh. This movie had me sometimes crying during my laughter gasps, other times laughing through my crying tears. And that’s just one aspect. I loved the casual way this movie got the philosophical and metaphysical tones just right, and was confident enough in them that they could toy with it or be whimsical even about the serious things. They did this in the dialog, the action, the acting. At this movie’s core is a genuine human story, wrapped in layers upon layers of well made action, comedy philosophy and mysticism. My favorite thing is watching this with someone who gets it, and getting to the end of the first part. The movie winds down for a moment literally and figuratively. The watcher, exhausted tearful and confused, spends a brief moment of “is that the end?” before realizing it’s not. As the titles for part II come up I casually say “now let’s take it up a notch” which is exactly what happens! Thanks for a great review! I’m off to see what else you talk about in your vids.
Very nice review! Personally, when I hear someone say they don't like this movie or this movie is bad, I immediately want to stay away from them lol. At least if you really don't get the message, you can't deny that the editing and practical effects, together with the music are phenomenal!
I love it so much. This is a movie that demands the viewer's full attention and analysis. The total opposite of a "turn off your brain" movie. It wants yo to eat the WHOLE massive beauty and horror of life, internet and the multiverse and digest it, not to only take a bit.
Waymond is by far the star of the movie for me. I think more male characters should be written like him, with actual depth. And while he fits into the "bumbling dad" archetype he has more depth than just being an oaf to be picked on by his overbearing wife. I did appreciate the anti-nihilism message of the movie. Even if it sort of steps on that at the resolution. My biggest criticism is that I feel like a few of the jokes would have better served the movie if they had been one off jokes. LIke with Raccacoonie and the ... IRS Agent "awards". By itself that was a pretty funny visual gag. Once they became central to that one fight scene it was like "yeah, okay, I got the joke 45 minutes ago." Now this movie is far from subtle, but that and a few other things just felt a little too in my face. Overall I'm positive on the movie, but I think it could have been handled a bit differently in a few places. Also this movie was directed by the same guys that directed the Turn Down for What music video, and it makes perfect sense.
i got to know about this movie from I think screenrants doctor strange trailer and man it was, one of the best viewing experiences I had, and I was so sad that I couldnt watch it on a bigger screen, but man after watching the movie, I felt the lines The screen rant guy(I think) said this movie is a better movie for multiverse genre with a momtrying to save her kids than Doctor strange MOM
I feel like people who don’t like it probably have barely experienced any difficulties portrayed in the movie (intergenerational stress, marriage strains, immigration hardship, identity struggle, self doubts)
I loved the movie, but I have a friend who said, "it was funny"... and that's it. He had a very rough childhood and doesn't have strong family bonds of any kind. I can see how it could keep you from some of the more poignant moments. I also heard from someone who just couldn't relate at all, so they weren't into it enough to pay attention. I think he was just very conservative though. Close minded.

I agree. The message on top of everything else is just too good to ignore!

It's definitely a movie that is worth watching a few times. There's a lot of little things and so much to pull from it!

This was an amazing review for a mind blowing movie
It really did blow me out of the water. I honestly think it might be one of my favorite movies of all time.

My wife hated it. Only watched the first 11 minutes.
