- The South African Banknotes That Tell A Story - Last year, South Africa released a series of banknotes commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Nelson Mandela's birth. They are a series unlike any other - depicting the story of his and the country's struggle against Apartheid.

Another fact you have to consider about these banknotes is that they're accepted in Swaziland Lesotho & Namibia because those three countries also uses South African rand in addition to their National currencies which are pegged to the South African rand at par.

Bank notes aren't something I'd go and learn about on my own, but I like learning new stuff and really enjoy people unapologetically geeking out about the stuff they're interested in. These videos are great.

Just so you know if you hold the note up to the sky or a light source you can see Mandela's face in the blank spot a little hidden egg I've always enjoyed.

How did you get the Portrait cutout in the intro of the video 1:10
From the South African Reserve Bank's website - most countries have cool interactive things about their banknotes, and some even have just the portraits :)
I'm South African and proud to have seen and heard of such a video just to add and please take note that the notes goes from birth to death of Mandela start from R10 resembling birth R100 death R200 remembrance of Nelson Mandela hence the statue so in short the notes shows a storyline of where he was in those numbers eg R20 Soweto R200 Statue and so forth during his age in the particular note background.
