At first glance, I would have preferred deeper side pockets and at pocket on the front that you could fit a water bottle in, but thanks for the first look vid
I'm looking for a new bag and i'm finding hard to find the perfect one. A bottle pocket on the front strap would habe been ideal, also the side pockets look a little baggy? not sure about the chest trap.
Overall, this pack stands out with its remarkable load carrying capability, sleek design, and lightweight construction. Despite the initial impression of loose side pockets, they actually proved quite secure in our testing. Even a 1.5L Nalgene bottle stayed in place without any worries. Additionally, these pockets offer handy storage for quick-access items like a waterproof jacket, enhancing the pack's versatility. It's a top-tier choice for outdoor adventurers seeking both reliability and practicality.
i tuck the bottle under the compression strap rope thingy inside the side pocket. Everything stays well in place. I think itś one of the reasons why it runs through the pocket
I think a liner would work better with this pack due to its shape. It have some water resistance but in heavy rain you would want to protect your kit further
Oh wow, you can visibly see from the video how loose those side pockets are. Might not be best for my style of off-trail bushwhacking backpacking. Very unfortunate. Looks like a great pack.
Combined with this fever/trend of "everything needs to be ultralight" that invades the outdoor world nowadays, there is a massive lack of quality and everything super overpriced.
They are shallow yes, but i was testing this exact backpack over weekend and had 1l Nalgene bottle in one side pocket and standard 2l bottle in the other. Nothing felt off, even when I bent down to tie my shoelaces.
@@StephenEscallier i've got three 500ml bottles, that I tuck under the compression cord to keeps in place. Works well in holding them in place. Also they can lie flat, and then fit horizontally too.
Nah side pockets badly designed this should never of passed testing stage you will lose gear out of these pockets easy also the shape is small and compressed which won’t spread weight well either as not spreading the weight across the full back area. The front sternum cord is badly designed in cold /bad weather when hands are suffering these will be a nightmare to fasten no need to re-invent the wheel here considering Lowe alpine are also part of rab why didn’t they listen to a company with a proven track record in the back pack sector ?
@@LagoDosSantos you can clearly see the side pockets are not holding the water bottles well and the sternum strap in winter no chance with cold hands I’ve had and used enough packs over the last 30 years to be able to spot obvious issues it’s not rocket science 👍
Thank you for sharing your insights! In our testing, we found the side pockets to be shallow, but surprisingly accommodating. We didn't encounter any issues even after extended use, and they proved handy for storing additional gear. However, I agree with your observation about the chest strap; it can be quite fiddly, especially in more extreme winter conditions.
@@grimlightwildoutdoorsfair enough, but, if you use an ultralight weight pack you are most likely aware of the compromises that come with it. Cold hands are a user issue, the same applies to packing solutions in my opinion. At the end of the day, you choose the right pack for the job.
i have tested it and unfortunately it's true, side pocket are unusable for me it there was some kind of drawcord, it would solve the problem and the backpack would be great@@LagoDosSantos

You could always attach your own front pockets if it’s such a necessity to you :)
How well does this pack handle weight? What is the most weight you feel comfortable using this pack with?
love the GSP, got one also

Side pockets look very shallow..... I can see water bottles flying out with a bit of movement!
yes, this is one and only, but big flaw
and reason why a have returned this bag
Returning mine for this reason too. Pocket is way too big, way too stretchy but yet way too shallow to hold a bottle in! Such a shame!!

Love the harness and many of the features but I wish it was waterproof like many of the American packs.
Would you need a rain cover for this pack? Or is it water resistant enough to only need a liner on the inside? Thanks!

Beautiful pack! Wish the logo (name) wasn’t as big on it
What do you mean? I was on the other end of the store and still could read it. Super useful! 🙃
Fantastic backpack, but I really love your jacket. What brand/model is it? Thanks
Stu is wearing the Paramo Men's Enduro Windproof
Great stuff very helpful cheers 👍
Thank you for taking the time to comment Ian, if you have any questions don't hesitate to get in contact
How much weight would you realistically carry with this bag ?Thanks.
We would say about 12kg
@@tauntonleisure Thank you.

Side pockets look sketchy
If not packed fully, could i use this as cabbin luggage?
I think due to the frame in the bag it maybe a little wide for most airlines other than long hall flights
@@tauntonleisure oh many thanks for the reply!
Is that load lifters on the shoulders.? Cant see
Yes there are load lifters on both the 40L and 50L
Does it work with telescopic poles aswell ?
Hi, are you referring to the ability to stow the poles as you walk?
Hello, nice review.
Thank you 🤗
Thanks
Hi, which is the maximum load suggested? Thanks
RAB doesn't offer any information referring to a max load. However, we would recommend 14 - 16kg
Atom packs are made in uk
They sure are, another great option for a light weight pack
Your dog is short roping you 😅

Egads. Super disappointing side pockets. Seems like bottles would fall out super easily.
Hard pass.

@@ondrejkohel7687 that’s cool. How do you think it would do in terms of retaining slimmer bottles?
We had a similar experience with the 1.5L Nalgene. We were sceptical but the pocket held well and had room for other things you need quick access to.

Rather bold considering you’ve never tested it.

That pack seems way too thick which put the weight too far away from the body, my 2 cents here
We have some staff reviews coming soon that may be able to help with that concern
I know you said it’s showerproof but does it have a rain cover with it?
No unfortunately you either need to drybag your items or purchase a separate rain cover
Would you need a rain cover for this pack? Or is it water resistant enough to only need a liner on the inside? Thanks!
A dry bag liner would work well with this pack. It doesn't include a rain cover and maybe an odd shape to fit one to.
