  • ‘Glory to Thee, My God, This Night’ is a Christian hymn that dates back to the 18th century. The lyrics are attributed to Thomas Ken, an English cleric who served as a bishop in the Church of England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Thomas Ken was known for his devout faith and his contributions to Anglican liturgy.
    The melody of this hymn is written by Thomas Tallis. Tallis was an English composer who lived during the Renaissance period, from around 1505 to 1585. He was one of the most influential English composers of his time, known for his sacred choral music.
    Special about the melody is that it can be sung as a canon with eight parts.
    The last verse is often called the Doxology and sung without the other verses.
    The hymn is often used as an evening prayer or hymn, expressing gratitude and praise to God for the blessings of the day and seeking His protection and guidance through the night. It acknowledges God's sovereignty and mercy, and the singer's dependence on Him for sustenance and safety.
    "Glory to Thee, My God, This Night" has been widely used in Anglican and other Christian traditions as part of evening worship services, evensongs, and personal devotions. Its simple yet profound lyrics and timeless melody have made it a beloved piece of Christian worship for generations.
    The recording in this music video is performed by Arie Maasland, Anna Stout and Noëmi and Sara Nzi-Maasland.
    Glory to Thee my God, this night,
    For all the blessings of the light;
    Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
    Under Thy own Almighty Wings.
    Forgive me Lord, for Thy dear Son,
    The ill that I this day have done.
    That with the World, my self, and Thee
    I, e'r I sleep at peace may be.
    Teach me to live, that I may dread
    The Grave as little as my Bed;
    Teach me to die, that so I may
    Triumphing rise at the last day.
    O may my Soul on Thee repose,
    And with sweet sleep mine eyelids close,
    Sleep that may me more vig'rous make,
    To serve my God when I awake.
    Praise God from whom all Blessings flow,
    Praise Him all Creatures here below,
    Praise Him above y' Angelick Host,
    Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
