    I was so happy for Mike Smith. It broke my heart when Zenyatta didn't win and Mike Smith never seemed quiet right after that loss. But here it was so great to see him smile after this race. I bet it was pretty nice to beat is ex-girlfriend too!

    Game On Dude ran a sick race. He put away five horses while coming back on the lead, and just got caught at the end.

    Drosselmeyer still picking up steam after the wire. What a little energizer bunny. Too bad there aren't longer classic races in the U.S. for such horses.

    I had 20 to Win/Place on Drosselmeyer. I don't think I've ever yelled louder for a horse. I was shocked my neighbors didn't call the police lol

    So You Think did well for his first start on dirt. But he was definitely more of a turf horse. He's a true champion, I didn't see Secretariat racing on four different continents on both turf and dirt.

    Game on Dude's trip is a "pace sandwich," beats the speed almost holds off the closer. Seattle Slew's 1978 JCGC loss to Exceller after being fried by Affirmed to 109.2 is another example.

    I would challenge anyone to demonstrate a more arduous campaign for a t'bred than the task Coolmore set SYT in this season of racing. He ran a massive race in the Arc to finish 4th to a couple of lightly weighted fillies, was also good in the DWC on Tapeta, which has been a disaster. To then race so well in the BCC on dirt for the first time was testament to his outstanding ability. I would have loved to have seen the SYT Bart Cummings prepared for his 2nd Cox Plate win go up against Frankel over 10f. I don't for a moment think that e could have beaten him but it would have been as solid a task (on good going) as it was for Frankel against CDA in the Juddmonte. JMO.

    I also thought So You Think ran a credible race. Thought he handled the track pretty well over all. Especially considering he trained over the track a couple of times. He had a dream trip, until the stretch and he was ready to pounce. In fact, if there was an opening towards the outside, no doubt in my mind he finishes top 3. However when he was forced to the inside I could tell he struggled with the footing. Right where the track was completely dead the whole weekend. I think he ran awesome.

    Sorry SugarTom, but saying that the Cox Plate is not what it once was? Yeah, nah, completely wrong there. What saw SYT undone here was Aidan O'Brien not having gotten to grips with the horse at this stage, thus why you saw SYT being flung between turf, synthetic (Dubai), and dirt, and being asked to travel so much. You got to see Aidan finally getting SYT at the end of his career, where he went out a winner. SYT won G1's in both Northern and Southern hemispheres, proved his worth & ran well here

    Those American dirt courses, after all, is still pretty different than those European all-weather courses. Besides, there are pretty few all-weather tracks in Europe, and most European races are on turf, which makes elite European horses more likely to participate in BCT, on the surface they are more familiar with, instead of BCC. For European or AUS/NZL horsemen, forcing their gallopers to participate in American races on dirt is pretty uneconomical since they rarely run on such a surface which would more easily to make them underperform, just the same as Galileo, George Washington, Rip Van Winkle, So You Think, etc.

  • @GBeret83

    a pure turf pedigree. Aidan O'Brien sent over the mighty Galileo to run in the 2001 BC Classic, and he didn't handle the dirt either as a son of Sadler's Wells. But on turf he was beast. A dual Epsom and Irish Derby winner. Plus a King George winner.

    I am also a huge Mike Smith fan but both of those races were his fault. Zenyatta was simply started too late and ran out of real estate. Drosselmeyer was an under achiever that needed to be peddled like a bike if you stopped riding he stopped running. Mikes ride was Perfect!! I might add that in over 50 years at the track as Fan and Owner I have never seen a race like Game on Dude ran simply incredible. To bad he didn't know Mike was coming! he was pulling away from the best horse's in the World and had heart left. Chantals best ride I think.

    It's not hard at all to tell that Stay Thirsty hates that track. He didn't fun to well in this race, and he didn't look comfortable at all. He was on his wrong lead coming by the stands for the first time and just did not look like he was happy. Good thing pletcher said he wouldn't be starting at Churchill ever again.

    If you think this field was horrible then i raise you 1997 field Skip Away ran away with it then in 1998 when faced with an all star field he got destroyed..

      +pencilface What?The best horses in that race were all unlucky: *Skip Away* didn't enjoy the track, *Gentlemen* bled, and *Swain* drifted out in the straight.

    There is a lot of truth in what you say. Maybe I was a litte harsh. I think though that horse racing is not the big sport it once was. The public The big money is going into football.

    I am from New Zealand as is So You Think. We thought the horse was a champion because it won the Cox Plate twice. Unfortuntely, the race is not what it once was. The calibre of horse is way down. There were no Sunlines or Kingston Towns there. If SYT was any good, he could have won this easy, as the Breeders' Cup Classic field was weak here - no Sunday Silence or Zenyatta! The field is terrible this year. I don't know where the good horses have gone to!

  • @GBeret83
    @GBeret83 12 лет назад

    I don't think So You Think ran a bad race in the Classic for a first career start on conventional dirt. It's a big ask for a horse for the Classic to be their first race on dirt. But from a pedigree standpoint, Await The Dawn may have been the better suited of the 2 for this race. He's a Giant's Causeway's colt, and everyone remembers what a monster race Giant's Causeway run in the 2000 BC Classic on this track. So You Think is by High Chaparral, which is Sadler's Wells, which in extension is>>>

    Drosselmeyer did NOT come out of the clouds. If the race caller pays attention they will see he is advancing.. very mediocre calls :(
    nice run by the horse!

      +Spicetruck (Nari) you don't know about racing Trevor did call it right ... Dross came from the clouds .. did you see how much running he had to do

    • @spicetruckin
      @spicetruckin 8 лет назад

      pls watch the stretch run again. at 300 yds to finish he was 6-7 lengths away and gaining.. trevor doesnt notice him till 100 yds to finish. denman always uses the "out of clouds", "jumped in at quarter pole" phrases too much. out of the clouds woukd be Calidoscopio winning the Brooklyn H.

      +Spicetruck (Nari) Drosselmeyer is 8th or 9th at the quarter pole and is at least seven wide off the rail. Yes, he's gaining, but this is the very definition of "out of the clouds." If you watch any horse racing at all, you very rarely see a win like this. I thought it was a fantastic call.

      Bill Pfeiffer Yes, it seems slightly subjective but it is a great race..and I will just enjoy it :)
