Triple Crown winner American Pharoah ends his remarkable career with a victory in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland on October 31, 2015.
@@spooder6 Hey doofus he was talking about what he has heard. Maybe he didn't hear that one about Secratariet. Not everyone is past 50 ok ? A Triple Crown winner, a Breeders Cup winner, a horse of a LIFETIME!!!!!! Wow how thrilling was that race & what a race caller Larry Collmus is, Grandslam goosebumps listening to that!!!!!
Victor and AP ran this race in an almost identical manner to the Belmont - went out to the lead, brushed off a weak mid-late race challenge, and simply smoked the field in the stretch. Dominating and fitting performance! AP is truly deserving of his legacy.
I started watching horse racing back in 2004, when smarty jones was the king, but lost in the Belmont.... thank you American Pharoah........... I never thaght in my life I would ever see one of the best "EVER"!!!!!!!!!
+charles byrnes yeah? Imagine waiting 37 years!! If you had told me back when I was 12 and Affirmed won, that it would be 37 more years, I could scarcely have imagined.
This gives me a lump in my throat. For some reason when a beautiful animal does something like this it affects me differently. I still remember the majesty of Secretariat, the amazing Belmont Stakes in '73, how the world stopped that Saturday. I remember where I was. I watch those old Secretariat Triple Crown races now and get sucked into the emotions. American Pharoah is the same. I'm so pleased he's going out on a winning note. He deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Citation and all the other Triple Crown winners. What a magnificent champion!
Watching today as we prepare to see what Justify has in store at the Preakness. I wish him and his connections well, and will be cheering him on down the stretch. But I will never feel about him the way I do about Pharoah. I love watching how HAPPY this cool horse is when he's running a race. Ears pricked forward, just cruising along like it's his favorite thing to do. Definitely "a horse of a lifetime!!"
Great race. Perhaps someday I will return to the Lexington area and see American Pharoah, just as I saw Secretariat and so many other greats back in 1989.
In all of this we need to thank Mr. Zayat and Bob Baffert for bringing him to the BCC. Other owners might have sent him off to stud after the Travers. They took a risk and they should be acknowledged for their sportsmanship and promotion of the sport. If AP had lost, it would have been their worst nightmare and probably effected his stud fee. I am happy for them that they were rewarded with a win.
Right, though I would probably argue that the Pennsylvania Derby would have been a better fit since Saratoga has taken down champions after the triple crown. This also included Secretariat. Also, you're not lying. They had to roll the dice and hope craps didn't come up. Fortunately for them they hit big time.
Tom Durkin’s call of the 2001 Breeder’s Cup will always be the best. It still brings tears to my eyes this day. But, American Pharoah’s call in this race was certainly one of the best.
I was 22 when this happened. I'll never ever forget this horse and what he did. I've just about memorized all of his stretch runs. Still not sure which is my favorite. The Belmont Stakes was absolute ecstasy. I was so confident yet nervous at the same time. His Preakness showed me all I needed to see. I knew he was the one. "AND THEY'RE INTO THE STRETCH! AND AMERICAN PHAROAH MAKES HIS RUN FOR GLORY!"... "FROSTED IS ALL OUT AT THE SIXTEENTH POLE AND HERE IT IS! THE 37 YEAR WAIT IS OVER! AMERICAN PHAROAH IS FINALLY THE ONE! AMERICAN PHAROAH HAS WON THE TRIPLE CROWWWNNN!" Then came the Classic... "AMERICAN PHAROAH COMES INTO HIS FINAL FURLONG, AND HE'S GOT A 5, A 6 LENGTH LEAD, AS THEY COME TO THE WIRE, A TRIPLE CROWN WINNER, A BREEDER'S CUP WINNER, A HORSE OF A LIFETIIIMEEE!" After the race ended I just went into the bathroom, thanked God for letting us witness this magnificent athlete then I broke down into tears. Just like that, my all time favorite racehorse, the best horse I ever saw had left the race track forever, but he left me memories that'll last a lifetime. Stuff I'll be able to tell people about years from now hopefully. Thank you American Pharoah. You deserve all the praise ever bestowed upon you. Maybe one day I'll see another one like you, but I doubt it very much. Hopefully your sons and daughters will at least be half as talented as you. If so, they'll be pretty damn good in my opinion.
To the person here who says somehwere here Secretariat could not handle mud as well as AP, his jockey Turcotte has this to say: "When they say that Secretariat couldn't run in the mud, I guess they forget that, as a two year old, he won the Laurel Futurity by 13 length and only one fifth of the track record while being eased up on a very sloppy track."
Oh yes, sooo good to see this again --- what a fabulous horse! --- and not a shabby ride by VE either. Look forward to a VE repeat in 2016 albeit not the same mount. Since Pharoah retired, has been exciting keeping up with CC --- another tremendous equine whose "comeback" has been stupendous. Interesting noting the obvious physical maturity difference of CC at 6 and Pharoah at only 3 -- Excitedly anticipating 2 days of safe racing for all horses/jocks at Santa Anita with CC taking the BCC this time.
Breaking News! Frosted just crossed the 16th pole 5 hrs later. Lol. Gleneagles ran right to the first plane back to Ireland. And so much for Jerry Crawford proclaiming KEEN ICE the fastest 3yo! KEEN ICE was uncorking that breathtaking rally when AMERICAN PHAROAH was galloping out. Lol
I was at the Breeders' Cup, right in front of the finish line at Keeneland. The crowd was almost as loud as when American Pharoah won the Triple Crown! This was the greatest day of my life. 50,000 people witnessed history in person and millions more at home. We Love You Pharoah!!
I remember seeing this and realize, we just saw the greatest horse along side do something we have never seen before which is win 4 of these major races.
To this day. Triple Crown (Classic) & Grand Slam (Champion) winner American Pharaoh is the only horse to win the Breeder's Cup Classic by taking the rest of the horses in this race off the television screen. What a amazing racehorse!
I was born in the Mid 80s. Started watching horse racing around the time of War Emblem in 2002. I loved Smarty and Big Brown. I loved Barbaro. I thought California Chrome would be the one. I thought Big Brown would be the one. But it was Pharoah. He is the greatest horse in my lifetime. I don't know how he stacks up with other Triple Crown winners, but he is my second favorite horse of all time behind Secretariat. I would probably rate him 3rd or 4th behind Secretariat, Seattle Slew and maybe Citation (maybe) all time amongst triple crown winners. Man O War was the second best horse of all time in my opinion, but he never did win the TC. He didn't race in the Derby but he destroyed Sir Barton the year Sir won. My brother isnt as big into horse racing as I am and he didn't watch the TC races until after the fact. He watched the Breeders Cup when AP won. He said as well that it was the greatest performance he'd seen in a race.
He will definitely be the horse of my lifetime, as he was the first to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed, and became the first Triple Crown winner to win the Breeder's Cup!
Never get tired of coming back and watching American Pharoah's Breeders Cup win. He was a fine champion racehorse and should pass on some nice traits to his future racing offspring.
Any horse who wins the Triple Crown is a superhorse; that's why it was 37 years between Affirmed (78) and AP (2015). In the 70s, when we had 3 Triple Crown winners, there was no Breeder's Cup. AP got to do something new, to set the standard even higher. I think he's wonderful. I can't help but wonder what Secretariat would have done in a Breeder's Cup. His run in the Belmont was the greatest race I've ever seen. All the others were great horses; Secretariat was a God.
Secretariat lost 25% of his races!!!!!!!!! He NEVER won 6 races in a row. Secretariat had 15 attempts to win 6 races in a row. He couldn't do it. I get it, I get. you're a casual fan who thinks with their heart instead of their brain. LOL. Outside of his TC series, Secretariat was slightly better than average.
It is now three years after Pharoah won the crown and the Grand Slam, and shortly after Justify won the triple crown. In my humble opinion, Pharoah is a better horse than Justify and I am not dissing Justify; he won the triple crown, but not as convincingly as Pharoah and then he raced no more. I love Pharoah.
I. Remember how me and my daddy and mama watched this great horse race and it felt like we were apart of the triple crown. And he was running for us Thats what The Great ones can do American pharaoh did that
Bob Baffert said AP has "mechanics" unlike any horse he has ever trained. He said you could even tell while walking him that he was different in that way.
It's a staple of that sire line. Unbridled stamped his wide shoulder and stronger loin/hip onto Empire Maker (other Unbridled sons didn't get the same balance) who also had a really efficient way of going, and he stamped that shoulder and action onto Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister, who in turn seem to have transmitted it to Always Dreaming and (for PotN) Social Inclusion, American Pharoah, Classic Empire (I remember Casse specificlaly describing Classic Empire as moving like a panther) and Cairo Prince whose yearlings and 2 year olds are getting the same kind of comments. Very consistent sire line. But Pharoah seems to have acquired perhaps the most balanced conformation of them all and accordingly the best biomechanics of them.
I'd have to say I'm a pretty lucky guy to have been fortunate enough to get to see all 3 Triple Crown winners of the 1970's(Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed) and then 37 years later finally get to see a 4th Triple Crown winner with this magnificent bull of a horse, and watch him also go on to complete the super-fecta by turning the Breeders Cup Classic into little more than a glorified workout. The selfish side of me thinks I'd would've loved to have seen them keep AP in training just long enough to run in the G1 Dubai World Cup in March, but from a business perspective I completely understand the decision to retire him now because this colt's stud fee is gonna be astronomical.
+Dan Casey Agreed. I don't take anything away from A.P. I will put A.P up there with Slew or maybe Native Dancer but Secretariat was in another league of his own.
American Pharoah is STUNNING. He's a fantastic racer and easily beats the competition. He's really pretty too! :) He's definetly my favorite racehorse. He is not overrated at all. Winning the Triple Crown and Breeder's Cup is no easy feat. What a great way to end a racing career.
When you're great you'll have haters and detractors. Throw in Beholder, Shared Belief or any other horse. It would not have mattered because American Pharoah simply would not have been beaten.
Had American Pharoah ran in 2016 he likely would've faced off against California Chrome, how awesome would that have been? Imagine a Breeders Cup Classic field with Chrome, American Pharoah, Frosted, Arrogate, Nyquist, Dortmund, and maybe Beholder, that might have been the greatest BCC field ever.
Boston Harbor --- Have always wondered how Pharoah & CC could ever really have competed as they had the same jock. No matter who won or lost, there would forever be the legitimate question regarding how the jockey change impacted the outcome ---- Things are likely better as they are so both of these greats will never have to deal with that man-made conundrum. Both magnificent equines loom tall & separate in their respective and legitimate triumphs.
the race was over before the first turn. AP's ears were up and forward. He just galloped until the final half mile..The other horses never had a chance.

He lives in the neighborhood, but Secretariat still occupies the house at the top of the hill!
+Dan Casey I agree, No horse could come close to topping Secretariat when he was at his best!
+jon barlock Thats Like Saying Floyd mayweather wouldnt have Lost a Fight Even if he Grew in the 70 and 80s and i think he would have
+Dan Casey how can you say that if American Pharoah never Ran His Best Race is the Main Problem! JUST LOOK how hes not even Tired after 2:00!
I’m 36. By far, the most dominant horse of my lifetime....
Love the horse...not the owner. Kudos American Pharoah
American Pharaoh's running style is beautiful. Like a metronome.
Larry has the perfect call, American Pharoah comes into his final furlong with a 4 length lead...
When you're great you'll have haters and detractors. Throw in Beholder, Shared Belief or any other horse. It would not have mattered because American Pharoah simply would not have been beaten.
AP won in a race with a group of great A level champions We love this horse
Still get goosebumps.
ABSOLUTELY A BEAUTIFULL CALL!!!!
It’s been 5 years!
as a little toddler i hoped to see a triple crown winner in my life time
mow its 2018 and i've seen two
Big thanks ☺️👍 🎶
EL LO HIZO!! HE DID IT!!
A horse of a LIFETIME!!!!
What an athlete!
Larry Collmus best call
At 2:17 in the Belmont Stakes. American Pharoah " Makes his run for glory!". At 1:57 in the Breeder's Cup Classic he made his run for immortality.
larry colmus great call. I see y u call vig races
American Pharoah is the only sports celebrity I'd care to meet.
Larry Collmus is just the best.
"And Victor Starts to Pump on him, says let's go, American Pharoah is getting away"
This 🐴 is the 🐐.
AP is the best horse i have ever seen run. Ive Seen Rachel Alexandra,Zenyatta,Wise Dan, And CC and he is by far the best horse out of all of them. i think He easily Makes the top 3 to me in best American thoroughbreds Behind Man O War and Citation
