@@dougxvale They are a band band, I think he's just referring to the fact that each of the members of the band is very talented in their own right, though he's talking specifically about Josh Tillman here.

First time I heard this song, when he got to the lyrics "If I know only one thing it's that everything that I see of the world outside is so inconceivable that often I barely can speak" I literally choked up and almost shed a tear. It is such a beautiful song, truly. The first I heard it and therein heard Fleet Foxes for the first time.. I just cried, it felt like years of raw emotion poured out of me
here in 2021. after many, many listens to the new album, "Shore". it is mind-blowingly good. yet, here I am. Shore feels more like a RP solo album, which is perfectly splendid. but here I am, on this video, missing the harmonies of RP + others. Robin is an all-time talent, but I love him even more as a "functioning cog in some great machinery."
Interesting observation. Saw Fleet Foxes two weeks ago - and while it was a great show, what put me off somewhat was that Robin is fully aware of his popularity now, and he makes no secret about it.
@@kevingarywilkesHmm. Saw them two nights ago, and didn't get that vibe at all. They've been touring with My Morning Jacket, and I got the impression Robin was a bit in awe of that. But I'm far more interested in FF. Fifty years from now, which band will be more revered? FF reminds me of Crosby Stills and Nash (and sometimes Young), with shades of Simon and Garfunkel. The music is a lane of its own. And here I am, 60 hours after a show, and I can't get enough.
Fleet Foxes are certainly in a league of their own. I am proud to say that they hail from my state of Washington. Can't wait to backpack through the Cascades this summer, set up my camp, and turn on some Fleet Foxes on my phone and sit by the fire. I don't normally care for electronic devices when out hiking but having Fleet Foxes there to serenade the camp just adds to the experience. Way to be Fleet Foxes! You guys can do no wrong.
Don't forget Modest Mouse! Both local bands... And great to listen to while out camping. Let's hope next year we get a better lineup at Sasquatch! Having both Fleet Foxes & Modest Mouse at Sasquatch would be amazing!
Ya'll should check out Centaur Midwife. They're from Ellensburg WA. They only have one or two albums but they drew a lot of influence from bands like the Fleet Foxes and other PNW folk.
I was raised up believing I was somehow unique Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see And now after some thinking, I'd say I'd rather be A functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me But I don't, I don't know what that will be I'll get back to you someday soon you will see What's my name, what's my station? Oh, just tell me what I should do I don't need to be kind to the armies of night that would do such injustice to you Or bow down and be grateful and say, "Sure, take all that you see" To the men who move only in dimly-lit halls and determine my future for me And I don't, I don't know who to believe I'll get back to you someday soon you will see If I know only one thing, it's that everything that I see Of the world outside is so inconceivable often I barely can speak Yeah I'm tongue-tied and dizzy and I can't keep it to myself What good is it to sing helplessness blues, why should I wait for anyone else? And I know, I know you will keep me on the shelf I'll come back to you someday soon myself If I had an orchard, I'd work 'til I'm raw If I had an orchard, I'd work 'til I'm sore And you would wait tables and soon run the store Gold hair in the sunlight, my light in the dawn If I had an orchard, I'd work 'til I'm sore If I had an orchard, I'd work 'til I'm sore Someday I'll be like the man on the screen
this song has always reminded me of simon and garfunkel. it has that simon and garfunkel vibe from the style and writing of the song. the harmony of vocals, the instrumentation and all.
there is no doubt S&G had a HUGE influence on Fleet Foxes, the writing style/subjects seem like things Paul Simon would write about if he were just coming up in their era and Robin Pecknold even sounds like Paul Simon a little when he sings
I was watching this the other night with my Mom. She wanted to watch something else before they began, but halfway through the first song, she was totally into it and when it ended she asked, "already?!" I was like.. "WIN!"
when i hear fleet foxes and robin voice i feel like i want to cry he touches my heart i love him and fleet foxes im glad theres' people that fell the same way about them :)
wow Robin & Josh singing together holy shit that sounds good Robin + Josh + Christian & Casey = so inconceivable often I barely can speak (now Skye sings too!)
This is 10 years coming up. old still feels like yesterday damn it's not like I listen to them each day if I did then I would not no exactly what it is that I miss,
Casey Sumner If that's the case then why are Fleet Foxes coming out with a new album this year? At least that's the word being shared by many music sites on multiple lists titled 'Most Anticipated Albums of 2014'. But there's no official word from FF. Yet. Just a somewhat cryptic photo posted on their FB page last June of a MacBook, sound board, mic, headphones, and guitar, titled 'Step One'. It's hardly anything to go on, but it's something.
@@caseysumner4997Fortunately, that wasn't correct. Robin and crew are still making awesome music. And I've had the privilege of seeing them live in 2022 and 2023. 💙💙💙
Such a interesting time for Fleet Foxes. The band was falling apart from within, they had a really hard putting this album together, they were barely talking to each other, Josh Tilman had already left the band but committed to the helplessness blues tour in order to seal a record deal for Father John Misty. Yet they still went out playing live kept there composure and made some really incredible music
It just means that they take time and effort in writing their music. Unlike many artists now who just try to pump out hit after hit with no thought or feeling behind any of their music. The wait is a good thing!
I kind of know what you mean in this performance--it kind of drags during the uptempo part-- but the Fleet Foxes are talented musicians who can produce a sound that is almost identical to the studio version, so I like it very much that they take the time to make their live performances sound different. One way they do that is by altering the tempo... if you've ever seen them perform The Shrine / An Argument, they slow the "apples in the summer" part quite a bit and I think it sounds incredible.
I think this is one of the best songs ever written
It is.
You’d be correct
It so IS
i literally found this comment in every fleet foxes song
Same
Father John Misty killing it on the drums and backing vocals
You can tell he was ready for the next level just watching him here
so on key , i met him once , super cool fella
Was Robin a little bit annoyed by the other lead singer in the back? 😏
This was a supergroup and we didn't even know it. Love the new music, but damn, miss that Tillman voice

That nostalgic moment when you see the father john misty playing the drums 😊
The best song from this truly underrated band.
