- The Roland E-4 and PO-24 Are a Wild Pair
When I first got my Roland E-4, one of the first things I tried to do was using it as an effects units for my other synths and drum machines...to mixed results. The input for external line level gear is actually through the main output, requiring a TRRS splitter. I tried several splitters, and could never get it to work consistently. Then, Trickman Terry gave me this adapter, and it works pretty dang well! So let's pair up the E-4 and the PO-24 Office and have some fun! Enjoy the video :)

Facts. I tried this combo in 2023 but with a VT-4...and Office.
It's gets crazy.
Around the 3:10 mark, was anyone else getting Safety Dance vibes for a moment? But wow this seems like a fun pairing!
Edit: And around that 6:23 mark - niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I am a fan. That needs to be sampled.
Thanks as always!
Amazing sounds! What would happen if you connected a key step? Could you play some of those sounds chromatically then?:)
Oh this is cool
Fun always happens when you don’t use gear as it was originally intended. :)
Lots of sample fodder in this video. Next you should try using that TRRS adapter with your Microfreak’s vocoder input.
Yeah I'll definitely have to give that a shot!
I’m wondering why not use the Mix In for synth input on the E-4?
The mix in is just a straight passthrough to the output, it completely bypasses all of the effects
I've been having the same issue with my e4! It looks like digdugdiy is out of that splitter (which is for the OP-Z initially??), I'll have to check the website again later :)
Maybe contact him directly. If he sees there's more demand for them, he may decide to create another batch.
I hope you can get one!
Oh man, so damned cool. Makes me want to bust out the old POs.
Do itttt!!!
Fun combo with really unique sounds! Glad you were able to get some use out of the adapter and have some fun with it. 😊
Thanks again for the adapter Terry!
Why not just get a 1/4 adapter and plug it into the main mic input. I do all the time with my Theremini and love using scatter with it. That’s also why you don’t get anything to harmonize.
could i connect a drum machine or guitar on this thing mate and how ?
Might have to change my alarm sound to that but it might be too effective ruclips.net/video/npZQYUTS7f8/видео.htmlm54s
Hahaha that would get old in less than 2 days I'm sure!
Wow super fun combo!
Could I ask you which PO has Step Multiplier?
Thanks a lot
Pretty sure on all of them, if you hold down a lit step (in write mode) press BPM to insert a retrig, press BPM multiple times to cycle thru the different retrigger modes. i.imgur.com/n5nZu8K.png
I think all of them except maybe a few of the first generation ones
Could you do a video with the Roland vt-4 and the keystep 37
