Your patience and devotion is next level! Just walking the stream is challenging in these conditions let alone flyfish, video, narrate. Can't thank you enough for sharing such wonderful adventure.
Hi Dan, I really appreciate your comment. Thank you!! I’m passionate about what I do so it’s just second nature but it’s nice to hear an encouraging word. Have a happy, healthy new year with endless hatches and surface feeding trout!! 👊🐟
Wild man, you are a soldier. I turned 70 and feel the 'itch' intensely, but last year I had 3 falls and the routine for me is d-o-w-n-s-t-r-e-m in the wood hemlocks and cedars. My waders look like sour bread mold with so many patches, but the cold waters of winter hold the greatest secrets and open lairs of the 🦈🦈 I used to plow and trudge after. I have to wait for Spring or I'd end up like G. Washington: wet and dripping after checking on his duck traps and blinds...and then, matter of fact: a case of fatal pneumonia.
Oh, Ege, I dread the thought of the day I’m not able to plow into the most remote stream whenever I want. It will happen at some point so I’m trying to enjoy every minute now while I can. These places are so special. There will be a time when I can’t get to them. I’ll only have the memories of what once was. I hope you can relive some of your adventures through my videos.
Well you get the award for the most iced up fly reel I've seen. lol ... I love fishing in the winter in the snow and cold, very serene ....very nice fish and video!!!
Yeah, that was one frozen reel!! So fun when it all comes together catching trout in these situations. I’m hoping we get at least another big snowstorm or two. Gotta catch some brookies between the flakes!! Thanks for watching Berks 👊
Great show, really enjoy there r so many hidden streams in PA, If there not fringing posted...next video can u hold up that super Adams to get a good look at it, have to tie some up over the winter. Mark
Thanks Mark!! Much appreciated… yes, so many awesome streams to explore. I do plan on doing a Super Adams video tutorial. Tight lines and happy new year!! 👊
Nobody can call Wild Trout Man a "fair weather fisherman". That's for damn sure. Beautiful footage. Are there wild browns reproducing in this water? If so, I wanted to share something I was told. I always fish upstream in water with wild browns because they tend to be spooked easily by sediment stirred by boots. My Grandfather was a minnow fisherman, always fishing downstream and rarely caught fish in wild trout streams. He could catch lunker stockies, but when it came to wild trout - he always spooked them. (He didn't know that.) It was always interesting how, when I was spinner fishing upstream, I would catch so many wild brownies with flawless, amber-colored fins, and more fish in general than when fishing downstream. Would you agree with this sentiment?
Hi Michael, yes, any day and any weather!! It’s just awesome to be out in nature and every month has its beauty. Rain is tough in the winter but I sure love being out in the snow. The scenery is stunning during a good snowstorm and to catch a wild trout in those conditions is always very special. I agree. Fishing downstream for wild trout is not recommended. You are much more likely to spook the wary trout. Coming up behind them and fishing upstream is the way to go. Being in commando mode is important!! When fishing streamers sometimes I do fish downstream because I get a better drift. On smaller native/wild trout streams it is exclusively fishing upstream and usually with a dry-dropper setup. Tight lines and Fear No Fish!! 👊
Absolutely loved this episode. While those conditions are always a challenge, the rewards of landing anything is icing on the cake and well worth the effort. That was yet another gorgeous area and the snow made it all the more interesting. Would love to see another trip there in the other seasons to see how much different it looks. Thanks for having us along and God bless. 👍
Thank you for your very nice message. Much appreciated!! Here is a video called Blue Line Native Trout. It is a different area of the same stream in early spring. Hope you enjoy this one too. 🙂 ruclips.net/video/8aJiDaUKzmU/видео.html
You are right that scenery is more than incredible!!! Great day!!! You are crazy dedicated I will say!!! Frozen gear snow all over your hands and cork I’d a been pissed!! Hope you had some chemical packs in them pockets?? I try to keep my hands as clean and dry as possible if my hands are cold n wet I’m done. I know hard to do with that much snow and gear issues. Good to know the magnets freeze.. Try and Orvis net keeper they are more robust or lively legs just released a nice net clip holster that solves your problem. Should have had that super Adams on too I guess? Well done..
Thank you Scott. Yes it does require dedication but the rewards are amazing and unforgettable!! I did have hand warmers in my pockets and that’s a good tip I should have stated. My mittens were priceless and I had to make sure not to get them wet. Yes, I need to look into a new setup for the net because this version is not optimum in the winter. Thanks for that tip. Yeah, Super Adams in a size 12 would have been perfect. Thanks for watching and I enjoyed reading your comment. Tight lines and Merry Christmas!!
You were right. No snow collects on your couch!! Man, the surroundings in this video were magnificent. Love it when the snow dampens some of the sounds out but makes other ones stand out. It looked like it was a little treacherous in some spots, but I think I saw you kick into low lock and plow your way onward. Like you said, there got to be a nicer hole around the next rock upstream. I may have the solution to your net problems. I would get clotheslined by mine more than once and said, "i need to fix this." I'll send you a direct message on FB with pictures. Try it if you like, but it really solved my net problems. Great video, and keep them coming. By the way, Merry Christmas and a great New Year to you and your family.
Much thanks for your comment, David, and your net solution. Good stuff!! Yes, the surroundings were magnificent and in the snow it was magical. Always gotta check out around the next bend!! lol. I remember as a kid checking out a native brookie stream in the summer with my cousin, Mark. The flows were low and the stream would go underground, but we kept checking it out further upstream and we kept finding more water with trout. This was at night with flashlights!! We weren't fishing just exploring the stream while on a camping/fly fishing adventure with my dad. It was an amazing experience and one I'll never forget. Long Live the Native Brookies!!
Congratulations on the quality of your videos and the quality of your skills and ethics. As a former Pennsylvania resident I am envious. Much continued success.
Thank you for your very kind words, Daniel. It is very much appreciated!! Where are you currently located? I hope you are able to get in some quality fishing time. 🙂👊
@@DanielBrown-hu3gi I did a quick check of Nevada fly fishing and the South Fork of the Humboldt came up. Have you been there… how is Nevada fly fishing? Definitely different from Pennsylvania.
What an awesome adventure! I love the way you show the details, line freezing, cold hands, rough terrain, wet gloves, ice in the eyelets, net mishap etc. And of course catching the wild trout!!! I love the winter fishing videos the best so far! Can't wait to get out there on a trip of my own! What were the flies you used again on this trip? Keep the videos coming! Tight lines!
Hey Rick, thanks for your comment. Yes, no sugar coating the winter adventures!! lol. Get out there and get some wild trout.... so rewarding in the winter. I was using an Ausable Wulff variation as the dry strike indicator and a bead head pheasant tail as the dropper catching trout. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. All the best.
First time I got to watch one of your spectacular videos live!!! (all the other times I was dead) Again, awesome. What scenery!!! Like looking at a Bob Ross painting. Winter, my favorite time of the year. But I think you should have waited until mid July to air this, to help cool people off 😆 Always educational, entertaining, and Zen like. Great job my friend.
Rick, I’m going to do a fly tying tutorial on the Super Adams. There is a photograph in the opening sequence of shots in the Delaware River video that premieres tonight at 6:00. Maybe you can pause the video and take a screen shot of the fly. ruclips.net/video/D6wad6tx0aE/видео.html
Yes, usually less dispersed and in deeper, slower water and possibly traveling downstream to find a bit warmer water. I also believe they come out to the feeding channels when the water warms a bit on a sunny day. That has been my experience in the winter.
Looks like a lot of fun! I'm hoping I get a day like that in my area of PA to go out in! I really enjoy the videos keep it up. If you have a free moment please check out my RUclips channel Trout Owl. I would love to hear your thoughts on my fishing and video editing.
