This is a Hollywood gem. Both were very talented, well-trained, professional singers. Don Ameche's spoken voice as well as his singing voice were smooth as velvet. Mary Martin, singer par excellence in many stage and screen roles.
Watching this video of Mary knowing the great triumphs that are in front of her is such a great vantage point. I love her in these movies. If they had found the right properties for her in California we might have been deprived of one of the great stage careers in American history. But now, let me go and just enjoy Mary and Don making sweet musical love to each other.
Why didn't Ameche record LPs? He sings this song really good, plus he was handsome. He would've made a good crooner. I like this song, but never watched the movie it's from. Ameche has that classic 1940's singing voice.

Don Ameche had to be rather young back then. When he voiced Shadow in Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, he did sound a bit senile.
