I applaude you for all the research you did. As far as I know you are the first reactor who saw the entire first episode of the show (with English subtitles). I think you grasped the formula of the show very well and explained it accordingly well to the viewers of your video. And what to tell about Floor we didn't already know? Getting this praise from a voice coach says it all, doesn't it?

Its because you understand Dutch judging by the name, you get the double whammy of emotion due to understanding the lyrics and the emotional push Floor can give..

This is interesting. In many European countries, the competition shows were received with skepticism and are still seen as being in poor taste.
You should hear the original too. The original singer, Samantha, has her own powerhouse, raspy voice.

What Floor does very good is go from light and balancedto loud and balanced. in my opinion it"s a gift whom not many singers are able to do. And the band is great. Makes all the siners shine.

I swear I'm telling the truth , I am very fond of this program I watched every episode from the beginning that it was broadcast. I never heard of floor jansen but i do know a couple of the singers that are sitting on the couch. but Floor really mesmerized Me by singing this song of Samantha steenwijk which is the original according singer of this song and I never heard the original song either , but when I hear floor singing this song I was immediately Blown Away , tears were falling down my cheeks when she screamed out loud for Mama. I never heard of her and i understoud every word bycause I'm Dutch to. now the internet is exploding , because of her version singing this song mama. WOOW , unbelievable artist is what she is and , now i have to listen to ALL HER OTHER SONGS because of her incredibly beautiful voice. :-) and i'm starting to like the metal music to. this song goes viral now and believe me , NOW the dutch people know , and never will forget the name " Floor Jansen " . my number 1 winner as best singer 2019 for sure.

Great reaction. I'm sorry to hear you don't have this show format in US. The 10th season is going on in Finland right now and the Dutch show format has been in TV at least in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Estonia. In Finland they don't give any points. They just have fun and at the end of each episode the main person chooses one singer whose performance was most touching and sings a duet with him/her of the same song.
Unfortunately, everything has to be a competition on American TV.
Love that format. More music is always better. I wish the music industry idiots here in the USA would do thismore.

You said that only Floor Jansen is know outside the Netherlands, but that's actually not true. Rolf Sanchez and Emma Heesters are also known outside the Netherlands. Not sure about the other singers, i love you're reaction! And i love Floor she is my favorite singer and because of this show my husband loves her too now!
When I first reacted to this song, I didn't know anything about the show. Since then, I have been watching the English translation by Denise Hofs and now I love all of the singers and know all of their stories. I love this show and I'm really enjoying learning about Dutch culture, too.

Sometimes I wonder, do you vocal coaches doing reaction videos really actually love Floor? Or are you just doing it for the views :) :) Well why I like your reactions of her is because I can tell you genuinely love her!
As for the show Beste Zangers, I agree with you so much. Can you imagine a show in the US like this? Taking pop stars, indie rock singers, theatre and metal vocalists, and having them sing for each other. That would be amazing.
As for Floor. I've become convinced she is without parallel on this planet. She deserves the attention and accolades. Her career into the spotlight hasn't been a direct or easy one for her. Thanks for your reaction!
This show has been on in Norway for many seasons, and people love it :-)
I started watching this show just for Floor (I've known her since After Forever) but have been impressed by the other singers as well. To my surprise, the stand-out performance of this episode (imho) was Rolf Sanchez - Solo otra vez (All by myself). A reggeaton singer doing a spanish version of Celine Dion's version of Eric Carmen's All by myself.

Thank you for giving us such a wonderful ultimatum - a threat that turns into a treat. I suppose the only way to go through the performance at such an intimate setting is for Floor to focus fully on what she is doing and not to get distracted, which is difficult to do since it is possible to see every single twitch in a person´s face from that distance.
She describes herself as a vocal nerd, who loves to discover elements of various vocal techniques and in some instances to incorporate them into her own style, which is what I think I mentioned last time or may be not. And I mean 20 years of working on her singing must show somewhere. By the way, I am quite sure that you did not hear full-on death metal vocal style, which is also used by her just when the particular song demands it.
Anyway, this was a great cover and she absolutely nailed it and not just the vocal part. :-)
It's a great idea for a show. I bet it is a very vulnerable position to a) be singing to an intimate crowd, b) singing to other singers and c) singing their songs!
More Floor! Also... more Amy Lee! I haven't seen anyone react to the song Speak to Me live from the Synthesis tour. A song that was written for a film but was also very much based on her relationship with her young son (see music video with her son in it). Would love to see a reaction to that!

I know the Show as "Sing my Song" wich is done in some european countries afaik. I love the spirit of the show so much and i have some new respect for certain genres/musicians, even though i don't like their Music.

you explain the grasp off the show perfectly. i think this is the type off show that could work anywhere. it does in belgium under the name liefde voor muzek. (love of music)
I can't compare to other countries, but in the Swedish version of the show they emphasize more on the artists putting their own style to the song. So you have young artists making modern versions of songs from like the 80s, and Vice versa. The results can be quite amazing as some artists really have their own unique style.

I think this is the 12th season of this show and there is so much great performances over the years. Glennis Grace with afscheid, og3ne with clown Anita Meijer with Flink zijn and many more.
I listen to them talk and it almost feels like Dutch has so much English undertone. So many of their words are similar.
Anyway Floor blew this away as usual.
Well, we actually stem from the same language: protogermanic. Many words are similar, we structure sentences fairly similar. The only real difference is between English and Dutch because of the Normans invading England hundreds of years ago.

There is actually similar show in Finland called Vain elämää. Bunch of pop/rock/rap stars get together and sing each others songs. One day is for one artist and others sing his/her songs in turn. Pretty good concept for a entertainment show and sometimes it gets a little bit emotional too.
I like your reaction to and comments on our Dutch show Valerie. And knowing that you are a fan: the show is getting better and better every year but it's worthwhile to also watch last years show and the show before last year as well.

If you want to hear something else from Beste Zangers 2016, this is also a very good performance. Its from O’g3ne (Ogene), three Dutch singers who are sisters. Their harmonies are so good!

This same format runs in other European countries as well, for example in Finland it is very successful, goes by the name "Vain elämää" ("it's only life"). In Finland the participants are only singing the artist's original songs.

Nightwish also did Over The Hills and Far Away a cover of a Gary Moore song, however their is far less of Nightwish' flavour in it and it is more of a direct cover, while still very good it has nothing original about it unfortunately. I think this was the first of their covers and as such had less of their feel to it. later covers are uniquely Nightwish

I know the show is not a competition, but just imagine being a singer and signing up for this series. And then you find out that Floor Jansen is going to be there too... I'd be scared. Very scared. How does it feel when another singer sings your songs better than you can ever do yourself?
Yeah, that's what I thought too. When you can sing your song 10/10, and then comes Floor who is in a league above anyone else there with a 11/10 performance.

They say on the last show they will be singing duets. I really hope that Floor sings with Rolf or Henk.
Rolf is reaaallly good!! And im with you Rolf and Henk have that strong undercurrent to harmonize well with Floors darker tone.
also have to add: this show format is in every country in Europe. And it's been going on for few years now.

To be honest most of these 7 singers are not really known in the Netherlands. So the show has some nice surprises for us Dutchies too!
Symphonic metal is anything but subtle? It is chock-full of nuance and layers of subtlety. There are so many little things in every song that make up a tapestry of sound. At least when it is done well, as it always is when Nightwish does it.
See, no opera in this one, she still tackles it super efficiently.
