What is the maximum royalties percentage you've seen or known a traditional author to make? I would expect an established author to have more leverage than a debut author and the best sellers to have higher than, e.g. a mid-lister.
Very disappointed to hear that M. Blackman gets paid less than other white authors. I would have expected better from a publishing industry. It's possible it was just a worse negotiated rate, but somehow I doubt it.

Highest I’ve seen was 75% but that was for translation rights so slightly different (I have a video on rights too that explains more). I’ve seen about 15% of a hardback before, but that’s after the first 10,000 or so have been sold. Yes, typically bigger named authors get a higher royalty rate as they’re known and guaranteed to have fans buy copies. I know, very sad about M. Blackman. I can’t speak on behalf of her publishers so not sure what the reasoning was behind it!

I’m kinda disappointed with my anthology book. The publishing house that published my book is asking me money so that I can get physical author copies shipped to my door. I’m having a problem since I don’t have an agent and this is my first time getting published abroad/internationally.

I have this book that I would like to publish. Shocker, I know :D ... It needs a little more editing and some illustrations. I don't fancy myself a writer nor a good enough drawer to do my own illustrations. It was something I put together because I felt the world would like the idea of the book. Simply put it is a book to keep kids distracted while traveling around during Christmas decorations month(s).
1: Does it cost the writer anything upfront to get a book published?
2: Any suggested agents or publishers I should reach out to?
3: I am not sure I have a proper manuscript. But I have something similar. Is there anything else I will need?
4: Any other information you think might be useful.
I appreciate your time and concern with my inquiry.
    Thank you.

Great video, are you in publishing?
Just a suggestion: edit your video in such a way so that you aren't looking away right before each jumpcut so it's a bit less distracting.

apologies if you've answered it in the video but in terms of royalties, will authors start earning out based on the full price sales of the book or the 10% of it as well?

i would avoid having to pay! you should not have to pay the publisher...they pay YOU! (if they are legit)

I am a Kurdish American and have worked as a Kurdish English translator and cultural advisor for the U.S. Military in Iraqi Kurdistan for more than ten years. I have finished writing a novel based on my experience with the U.S military in Iraqi Kurdistan and my life under Saddam Hussein's authoritarian regime.
An editor is working on my manuscript, which will soon be finished.
I need your advice regarding the publishing. Do you recommend self-publishing or traditional?
I have good funds for advertising if I go with self-publishing. But few people recommend the traditional way.
In 2004, I started working as a linguist with U.S. Military in my hometown, Kirkuk, in Iraqi Kurdistan, and then in 2008, I moved to The United States. In 2015, I became a U.S. citizen, and then I returned to Iraq again as a linguist and cultural advisor with the U.S. Military to fight against ISIS in Iraq. There is a good plot in the story. There are love, persecution, history, genocide, fighting against terrorists, and more in my story. Some of the stories are real, but the rest is fiction based on actual political events and situation.
