WARDROBE REVIEW | SHOES - The Good & The Bad.

- I received an interesting message from someone asking why I don't call it what it is - 'spending' and suggested influencers use the word investment to justify their spending. On some level, I agree. Watching this back, I don't think I explained why I used the term 'investment' as opposed to shopping or spending very well.
Spending, to me, sounds like a frivolous and easy experience. At times I can overthink a lot when shopping, so it isn't necessarily as simple as spending. When I buy something, I'm putting my money into a brand/item with the expectation of a worthwhile result. Although investment can mean financial gain, we invest in things in other ways; in this case, it's the future of my wardrobe and the hope of gaining something long term. I feel like I'm bordering on the psychoanalysis of my shopping experience, BUT I hope that makes sense.
I apologise if I missed off any shoes that would have been useful to feature. I COMPLETELY missed off Birkenstocks, which I 100% love and recommend. Maybe I'll feature them somewhere in another video :)

This is some kind of therapy, I swear. The reverence that you have for small details and the almost bashful way you surrender to your quirks is the most endearing and inspiring thing. And to feel this way towards a video about shoes! Yes. Y e s.
I could listen to you talking about shoes / clothes for hours, it's so therapeutical. Can't wait to see trainers and bags!
Thank you! x
As always love it 😍 I would love to see the sneaker collection and the handbag also
This video was extremely helpful! I love how honest you are when it comes to fashion. You've definitely sold me on the 1461 Docs. Can't wait for your next one in this series.
Oh my! Yes to 2 videos a week 😍 not trying to put any pressure on you because you should upload whatever you feel like but I, as an audience would reaaally love to watch both your vlog and fashion-related video in every week. We’re supporting you always Brittany! Can’t wait ❤️
Thank you for making this video, I was on the fence about the Chanel sandals. Can’t wait to watch more! 🧡
I watched this with no intention of paying attention to the subject matter, but I just love listening to Brittany's voice. Plus I was able to shave the piling off a well-loved sweater.
I like that you’re including different price points and don’t feel you should shy away from high end purchases as it gives us insight in to why something might be worth saving for / and what wasn’t. The Row seems to be a consistent yes from most creatives I follow online and your honest insights in to each pair shoes why. Looking very much forward to everything you continue to put out there. Always a treat and always informative ❤️ Love from Cape Town, South Africa!
Enjoyed every second of this and can’t wait to watch the next one! You answer all the questions everyone is thinking and really justify whether it was worth it or not! I love how relatable you are (ie we’ve all fallen for a brand’s logo or an insta hyped item) and are so well spoken about the pieces. Have followed and loved your style for years so this insight is so interesting! 🖤
I absolutely loved the concept of this video, especially the detailed categories of rating, like quality. It's so good to actually hear about pieces that went wrong, I feel like we need more of that spoken about.
Love your vlogs and I’m excited for this series!
Thank you for speaking so candidly about purchases that you made yourself. I can't wait for the handbag episode!
You're just putting out great content week after week after week... Your work is highly appreciated, Brittany!
Loved this, so insightful - can't wait to see your handbag video!
I love listening to you talking, it's so calming. I'm so excited for the bags and trainers video! Love from Sweden.
Nice idea for a series, I look forward to your posts twice a week!! As a side note, I wouldn't bother trying to explain or justify the meaning of investing/spending/shopping, at the end of the day it's money exiting your pocket. If you have worked hard for it and you want to spend it, just do it! I think the main takeaway would be thinking a little bit more about longevity before you buy five pairs of not so great shoes vs one good one so that will mean different price points for different people depending on where they usually shop and what they'd consider better quality.
Loved this video! Full of useful information, honest thoughts and experiences with the shoes, fab. I’m looking forward to seeing more 💛
Loved seeing the close up shots of the shoes and then seeing the different ways you style them - really good outfit inspiration!!
Loved it! I really looove long videos and quite excited with the idea of 2 videos a week. It is definitely a highlight!
I loved this. I’m a recent viewer and really enjoy your content. I am trying to get rid of any excess in my wardrobe and kind of start fresh with a new perspective. Right now I could never spend these amounts on footwear but I hope to in a year or so once I’m cured from my own bad purchasing habits. I’m not too worried about the actual designers or items themselves as I am not shopping but I enjoy watching for the analysis, the encouragement to hold ourselves accountable and make better choices and also just the reassurance that everyone does it and all we can do is learn a lesson! Well done, and two a week would be amazing! X
Thanks for the video lovely. I enjoying hearing your perspective around what works and what doesn’t. It shows that sometimes we all make ‘mistakes’ about thinking whether something will work or not. Which makes the good purchases even more satisfying!
Really enjoyed this, informative and an easy watch. Would love more like this as well as the vlogs 👍🏽
I really enjoy and appreciate how considerate you are with your purchases, it’s inspired me to be more selective with what I bring into my wardrobe
The type of video I didn't know I really wanted from you. The trainer and bags video is a must!
Loved this content. Would really like the continuation of this series. Another shoes episode would be great!
I absolutely love how much you appreciate the design of a shoe and your attention to detail. I have actually” gasped” as well upon seeing an article of clothing or shoes in appreciation of their beauty!
You might like the Proenza Schouler Oxford( saw on Lizzie’s vlog a while back)
I so enjoy your RUclips channel! Thank you
So excited for the rest of this series!!
EXCELLENT! Loved every minute, so informative and honest!! Please do more, I love this type of content.
i LOVE a long nerdy video - so , thank you !
Yes, please! Do more :) Love to hear more about your bags and how you decide what to buy and why. And would love to have two videos from you every week, you are one of my favorites (insert heart eyed emoji). All the love to you from Argentina :D
🤣 you talking about the Burberry shoes was too much!
Loved the video! Love a long video. So much info and loved seeing them being worn in the cut aways/photographs. Really looking forward to the next ones! Xxx
Love this style of video, and cant wait for the next episode!
Loved this!! I can't wait to see your next one in the series!! I hope you're doing well! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved this video! Can’t wait to see the one on bags!
loved this! can't wait for more on this series
Oh! I really enjoyed the video, and it made me feel like a friend was talking to me! On the other hand, I think it is a very useful format, because although I do not plan to invest in them, it gives an idea about the brand and helps me learn about what details I should look at. Thank you very much!
The shoes at 51:00 feel like these complicated relationships that we try to make work but it never does and we know we should leave but we end up trying harder and it makes us feel like crap :')
You deserve a 100% true love story with each of your pair of shoes
Although I personally didn't like any of the shoe choices I enjoy hearing you talk about them in such fine detail, it's definitely therapeutic in a weird, comforting way. I would love a bags and trainers video as I think I would love your selection and trainers and bags are more my thing! x
Love the video. I’m also petite and I’m very fond of your style. Your advices are so good. I would love to see more videos like this one! 🙃
I loved the video! I'm sure everyone can relate to buyer's remorse, so it's nice so hear your honest opinion on your purchases. I'm glad I beat off the Prada Monolith bug, as I was pining for the boots so badly! And I also had my eye on the Eytys boots too. Now the Bottega Veneta chelsea boots have caught my eye, as they have a really narrow shaft which I like in a boot as well! It's a bit OCD but I keep an Excel spreadsheet of everything I purchase (and everything I'm thinking of purchasing, prices, etc.) and make little comments if anything was a 'regret' so I can look back and try not to make the same mistake! Some of my biggest mistakes have come from buying trendy high street pieces, and also "collecting" things from my favourite designers for a lifestyle that I don't have, rather than buying things that I'm actually going to get a lot of wear out of in my daily life. Looking forward to your bag video! xx
I never normally comment but I loved this video so much! I also love a really long video, and the idea of two videos from you a week is such a treat. Can't wait to see more! x
I mean you don't monetise vlogs and if i'm not mistaken you paid for all of the shoes here yourself - literally influenced by you with every video!
YES! I made sure all items in this video were paid for myself ♥️
P.s I love your profile picture so much! Brings me joy every time I see it.
@@BrittanyBathgate1 ah thank you! god bless magritte! :-)
Just got around to listening/watching this and I’m enjoying the insight. Especially the confession that some purchases are more about being caught up in a style or seeing a trend and watching to be a part of it regardless of how it clashes with personal style. Gives me lots or think about with my own buying!
Great video! Can’t wait for bags! ❤️😊
This was brilliant, please do continue the series if you're enjoying it too. I'd love to hear your thoughts on handbags. I find the styling stories especially useful - why things worked for you or didn't - as it makes me think of my style, why things haven't worked and also where I want it to go. All the best x
I love your style, retro kinda newish vibe to it ❤ I wish I have this collection but please do part 3 we wanna see all of them😍
Loved this video! There were quite a few pairs that I was curious about, so it was good to get a thorough review. Definitely will put the Doc Martens on my wishlist 😍
Would love to see an episode about trousers!
Loved it! Fascinating to hear honest reviews of such luxury pieces. More please! X
❤️❤️❤️
YES! Finally I've been waiting for the video to drop ever since you suggested it in insta stories.
It was really helpful! looking forward to seeing other categories in this series.
New subscriber here and really loving your videos! I'm excited for this series since I love your style and interested to know what pieces you think were worth it! I like your thorough details of what you like and don't like about the shoes and also how you styled them. Can't wait for the handbags video!!
loved this brittany! It also reminded me that dr martens existed so now I’ve bought another pair 🙈 can’t wait for the rest of the series! ❤️
Thank you for this video, I enjoyed it as always! I totally agree - sometimes it's not worth the time and energy to make something work!
Really enjoyed this video and you dissecting into your purchases. I like this review style of video, super helpful to see which pieces worked and didn't work. I love your minimal and neutral style, and I've been working on my wardrobe as well piece by piece (a lot of it inspired by you). If you are planning on making more such videos, I'd like to see a jewelry themed and a dress collection/investment video. I've seen you wear a lot of airy/flowy midi length dresses and would love to see a more in depth review video on those. I look forward to your sneaker and bag collection as well.
Stay well and be safe.
I love your videos and subscribed to you. Your coat review video also helped me a lot! I am currently looking to purchase a fall coat.
Love your long videos and love the detail when you describe clothes and shoes. Very excited for two videos a week. I can’t afford Prada and Chanel, but I have a brown suede version of the Eytys (?) boots and they are heavy and squeak when I walk in them. I love the look of them but agree they are hard to style. I bought the Doc Martens Mono after seeing you with them and I adore them. Worth every penny and such good quality!
I have the DR martens mono too and you couldn’t be more accurate! They took 2 weeks of blisters and ache and then they became the most comfortable shoe ever. And they go with everything, or maybe I stopped caring about what to wear with them XD
SO good with skirts and midi winter dresses as well.
Keep doing these videos! I am waiting for the coats/jackets one!
Great insights Brittany! Iv’e been looking to buy some Lemaire mens shoes for a couple of years now, and I had no real reference as far as quality goes so thanks for that.
Brilliant video, can’t wait to see your review on sneakers and bags. Please do one on your coat collection as well!
YES i love this. can't wait for the next video on trainers!!
Another great alternative to the Row Ginza sandal is available at Ducie London - available in both the all black and the white & black. Ducie London also do a great Chanel velcro sandal dupe. Had my eye on them for a while, if anyone's tried them let me know.
Love your videos Brittany, excited for 2 a week!!!
Watched all the way through, was nice to listen to while pattern drafting :)
I think this was really informative, especially in relation to styling and proportions (as a fellow short gal really appreciate this). I also appreciate your honest evaluation of purchases, I mean who amongst us hasn’t bought something because we thought it looked really cool only to feel a bit odd wearing it? Can’t wait for the handbag video, I’ve had the Musubi on my Wishlist for ages, but it’s such a significant amount of money to part with 😬
so looking forward to the bag sesh!
I’ve been rewatching this video over 10 times. This is the best review you can find. Thank you ❤️ Very helpful, made me decide on the row sandals. I also found a waaaay better alternative to Chanel sandals, The Row Hook and Loop sandals. And I can honestly say they are the most comfortable shoes in the world worth every penny.
I would be so hesitant to watch a 50 minute video from anyone else but it’s an absolute TREAT from you! Your voice and manner of speaking is so refreshing here on RUclips - so excited for more videos!
Also have you ever tried any shoes from Beau Coops? I’ve been eyeing a pair of boots from the brand (secondhand) but I’ve been unsure of the quality!
I love you and your style, but my mouth fell open and I literally gasped when you said how much you paid for the leather flip flops. That’s my disposable income for a month 😬 Also, if I’m paying £700 for flip flops I really don’t want to be suffering with blisters for a month while I break them in 😂 Maybe I’m a comfort over style girl as I live in my Havaianas!
love how down to earth your presentation style is. A lovely watch.
happy to hear that there will be 2 videos per week!
Nice idea for a video! I'd love to see more of these as there's so many items I'm never too sure to invest in.
I had a pair of newlook boots just like the Dr Martens ( which lasted years) definitely think I'll replace them with the Monos now that I've seen some good reviews
hi brittany, i'm a new follower on IG and want to chime in to say i really love this content. i'm trying to pare down my wardrobe and only own very few pieces that are durable, minimal, and extremely versatile while still being stylish. and i find myself wanting to know EVERY SINGLE ITEM that you feature on your feed as reference points. hope to see more in different categories!
loved this so much. please do more! i’ve been so sucked in by the chanel sandals but thank you for saving my purse. so funny as i have some suicokes and they squeak so badly too. it’s so embarrassing when you’re out and they start.
Oh yes, that Suicoke squeak. I know it too well! 😂
Brittany, I loved that you started this series! You are the best person to do such a series anyway. You have a bird’s eye view/ holistic perspective of shopping and it’s quite agreeable. I would also include alternatives in the for the more expensive shoes or just the better option. ‘You should instead look into this and that than this one’ something like this 😃 Would be keen to know DM mono alternatives (I am in love with them too but keen to sell as sizing has not been good for me) such as Trickers, etc. Just an idea
I loved loved loved this video!!:) AND SUPER EXCITED for 2 a week! I also have been meaning to ask you...what rain boots do you like and wear? Literally every week I say I'm going to ask & keep forgetting. I struggle w/ finding slim sleek rain boot. As for this video I LOVED laughing along w/ you and all the thought that went into why you purchased as I think we all fall pry to a bad purchase now & then and I think it's so helpful price verses wear along w/ styling. Just a great video. Can't wait to see hand bags:)
Loved this video, can't wait for more :)
OMG what a video😍 loved the length of it, the details that you told us… please we need the bags video 🙏🏻😘
You’re really doing a wonderful job here on RUclips. It’s like a breath of fresh air🤍
Yesss we need a trainer video! Missed the vlog, but loved this as well
Massive shoe fan here to say that I am thoroughly engaged by your doctoral lecture on the highs and lows of a life with shoes. When you came to the Prada’s and were voicing doubts, I got it. But when you showed how you styled them with slim trousers and a boxy blazer, that’s when little red needle of my satisfaction gage hit the roof. KEEP’M‼️
I just bought your sandals from flattered in beige and black and they are amazing. They fit perfectly and are the softest leather. They are the first sandals that did not hurt my feet. I love them!!
i would love to see a series of sustainable wardrobe !! keep it up ! : ) by the way, i literally do not mind the fact that the video is that long, it s actually relaxing, i put it on and do my makeup or eat : ))
I really enjoyed this video, and found it very useful. I’d love you to do some on your clothes!
Wow, thankful for discovering you!
Really loved this! Didn’t feel like a 1 hour vid! Super informative and honest. I always struggled to justify spending so much on footwear but then I purchased some Gucci boots and have been convinced ever since that it’s worthwhile to occasionally drop some serious ££ on footwear that will stand the test of time. Also agree that price doesn’t always guarantee quality though. DM’s will last you decades and my favourite pair of lace up brogues from cos are 4 years old and still going strong! plenty of more affordable options that make a statement if you don’t mind about a label but I must admit, I’m a bit of a sucker for the label sometimes 😉 xx
Loved this. Been on the fence about the docs for a bit but now I’m gonna purchase lol. Tbh I personally don’t buy high end shoes the most expensive being common projects only. Would love more videos like these !!! Love ur honest opinion lol and related to the what the hell was I thinking moment for the Burberry shoes hahahahahaha
Two videos a week ?! Yes please !!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Interesting content, thank you for talking the time to so thoughtfully make & publish this. Funny that your forever favourites are DrMartens which brand you've worn for 10-15 years? If it ain't broke! Can't cope with the shoes on the bed scenario 🤣🤣 but apart from that, loved the set and the nuanced black sandal/Oxford/boots scenario. (Plus I don't think a chiropodist would be happy about shoe heaviness) Like it when you talk through your thought process on styling, that's most helpful. I didn't know anything about monetising videos and I think you need to do what you need to do, but the video is so much more elegant, with a nod to slow living without ad breaks 🙏 Looking forward to the next.
I'm so glad someone mentioned the shoes being put on the bed and holding the bottoms in her hands 😣
@@aalaysharfi was a good video, but yikes on that aspect lol
I just watched this again & I must say, it is crazy to think that your favorite shoes are still very trendy & going strong in 2022. We can tell you have vision & impeccable taste. ☺️
I love how much detail u go into. I did agree with the clown shoes,, I’ve just started to ‘invest’ a bit more in my wardrobe, so this is very useful cause I’ve made some awful choices.
This video is so helpful, love to watch this kind of topic^^
Thank you! ❤️
love your videos and wonder if you can make a video talking about the row items clothes and everything you have and your reviews on them
Brittany I love ur videos, I kid u not I fkin love them. You’re so real, when I watch any other youtuber I feel a distance no matter how relatable they r, but you’re smth else. I’ve also developed some of your tastes and style in clothing ever since watching you and I take care of my clothes better, idk it all makes me feel very nice
i swoon over so much of the row too but the prices are tough to get your head around, loved this video 💗💗💗
Me too! Having bought pieces from the brand, as much as I love them, going forward, I’ve started looking at buying The Row secondhand instead. X
Brittany Bathgate and there’s plenty on Vestiaire!
Curious how you remember which styles of shoes you have when they are packed away in dustbags and boxes. Do you have tips? I am a very "out of sight, out of mind" person, even when I don't have a ton of things. Thanks!
You should take a polaroid and stick them in front of the box!
Yes to two videos a week! I loved how honest you were and the consideration of styling with outfits. That does make or break a shoe for me. Regarding really heavy shoes, I remember when the Balenciaga dad sneakers were really popular, I read something by a podiatrist how really heavy shoes are bad for your feet. You have walk in a weird way and it’s a strain on your legs and feet. I wonder if your Prada’s are pulling from the sole because of the weight. Anyway!! Love the dr martens, you’ve sold me on those!
Excellent video!!! Very useful. Thanks
Very interesting, and still useful. I was drinking wine while watching. 😁
Love your vlogs and the idea of a series (as I love your style). Like others have said, you don't have to justify how you spend your money. I totally hear you about "investing" in a shoe though. A good shoe (in my mind) should be easy to style, last years, *and can be repaired*. Yes to high quality/high end shoes, but total down vote for high price/poor quality shoes like the Prada's. Off to find a good dupe for the Row slippers now ;) Thank so much for your very thorough reviews! Edit: also the whole "gasping at the sight of". That's the Acne Musubi (medium and/or the mini...why do i have to choose!?) for me. It's at the top of my Christmas-self-gift list.
If you want a pair of indestructible boots get yourself some Blundstones!! I've had my pair for 4 years already, worn them nearly every day for about 2 or 3 years, had minimum maintenance and they are still going strong. Talk about price for value. Everyone around me is tired of hearing me ramble on about them.
100% recommend
can you share how you care for them? i just bought my first pair and i have no idea how to not ruin them instantly with (maybe over-) use?
I’m so glad you spoke out about the Chanel shoes, I made a Chanel mistake and it’s costly...although thank goodness for Vestiaire ☺️
This is the dream video - so useful! I am having major quality problems with my The Row Ginza flip flops! The leather upper is tearing on both shoes in the middle upper. So sad!!!! Glad yours are holding up better
I’ve literally just spoken to a friend who is having the exact same problem! I’m now really worried about mine 😭
@@BrittanyBathgate1 Oh really?! I am so gutted! It happened really quickly on mine so if you've made it this far you're probably golden. Fingers crossed
(Bear my English, I'm sorry) I've been following you on Instagram for quite some time but had never watched your channel before, I really liked this video (and series) and hope you will make more, I thought it was very helpful. !
I did sat a hour (without snacks) listening to you talking about shoes and thought it very interesting. I especially liked all the efforts you've put into the review itself and the informations you gave: the brand, the price, where/how you made the purchase, the style, the cut, the fit, the parts with the styled videos and your voice over, if you think it is a classic, a trend, the value for money, how much you've been wearing the piece and if you would repurchase if lost or stolen (you've added this one for the other ones in the series). There were really good reviews because there were going much further than a simple "I love them, they're so pretty" and that's rare. I really appreciated this debate with yourself and thinking in terms of reasoned purchases. And also the fact that you are very lucid an honest about it all.
