- Join the Lititz Historical Foundation at the Lititz Public Library on Saturday, February 17th for a very special program! The presentation will begin at 1:30pm.
We are proud to welcome Lancaster County artist Patrick M. Reynolds, who will discuss his amazing career. For his program, he will combine stories your history teacher never heard of with a CHALK TALK wherein he draw and talk at the same time. Each drawing will relate to each story. Some of his stories at Lititz include Pennsylvania incidents: “Pistol-Packin’ Milton Hershey” and “The Buckshot War.”
He promises an entertaining afternoon of amusing,”Gee-Whiz” stories adapted from the localized historical comic strips that he’s done over the past half century on Pennsylvania, New York City, Texas, and Washington, DC. Most of these strips have been incorporated into book form. Over the past half century, Reynolds has created weekly illustrated features on the history of New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and the Washington, DC area for newspapers across the country. To accomplish this, Mr. Reynolds does all the research, writing, and illustrating. These stories have been further published into over forty books which have sold over 100,000 copies through the years. He recently retired from doing his Flashbacks comic strip has been carried by the Washington Post and several other newspapers for 31 years. He also has done a history auxiliary textbook, Texas Sketches, for Harcourt School Publishers. Harcourt recently used some of his work in a Washington, DC school workbook.
His most recently published books are Strange But True Facts About the Civil War, Pennsylvania Firsts and A Cartoon History of Texas. Recently the U.S. Department of the Army published a poster that Mr. Reynolds had designed, written, and illustrated entitled “The 40th Anniversary of the Korean War.” A print of this poster was displayed in the Smithsonian Institution Air & Space Museum and other museums and Presidential libraries across the country.A native of Willow Street, PA, Patrick received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York and a Masters of Fine Arts from Syracuse University. During the Vietnam War, Lieutenant Reynolds flew over 300 aerial surveillance missions, was awarded the Bronze Star, eleven Air Medals, two Army Commendation Medals and other decorations. He was an instructor for the US Army Command and General Staff Officers Course and retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel.
