Great comparison, Aldryn! Lately I've been shooting the OC coastline (just N of you) with my DJI Action 2, with two friends who both use GoPro (I forget their model #s). Our footage is comparable. I prefer DJIs interface and magnetic mount system. My Action 2 and I got hit by a large wave last week (card is fine but card slot sometimes can't see the card), making me consider the Action 3, since it is better sealed.
Honestly the best comparison video ive seen. All others don't have an opinion really and emphasize the picture quality of the go pro but user experience is more important for non professional film buffs. All other videos are marketing to like 2% professionals vs the 98% normal consumers

New to all things GoPro etc, attempting to contribute 'citizen science', I experienced the 'challenges' of battery life waiting for blue crabs to visit the exclusion cage protecting eel or ribbon grass in tannin stained waters with high amounts of detritus - crud. I find the comments of 'user simple' an important consideration. I would have gone bizonkers if there was some comparison of quality in low light high turbidity - dirty, brown water but taking what is offered .. a big 'thanks'
you are bang on here ... this is exactly why the dji is better than the gopro. user experience, and also something you did not mention.. in my movie editor on my average pc it takes a lot longer to process gopro files. Now i know thats subjective.. but it matters a lot ..it really hurts wanting to work with the gopro. its like the insta360 you love what it can do..you hate editing the film..
Great Video & Informative Review 👍. After much research I've decided to purchase the New DJI Osmo Action 3, Mainly due to the fact that it's Cheaper, has better Battery life, quick charge and doesn't overheat/freeze like most Gopro's. Overall I think its a Win hands down 👍.

Yeah i have to disagree a bit 😅 already the 10 bit, that were not mentioned in the video are a big game changer and make the gopro superior and also the micro sounds better. The only thing that is better on the action 3 is the quick mount, but in the end, the quick mount also has to get attached the same way as a normal gopro at my drone for example, so why get the extra part in between... People who know about colour grading will appreciate the 10 bit!! Game changer in those tiny cams!
Thanks for the video, nicely done. I have a DJI Action 3 on the way and am really hoping its as good as the reviews are saying. My experience of GoPro is that they indeed use their subscription model to conn you out of more money. Be very careful at renewal. Despite not using the subsription in any way at all and not getting one single email warning me of the impending renewal, they charged me and refused to refund me. I had to go to Paypal who immediately refunded the subscription to me. The GoPro batteries are also awful. In fact they have always been awful. I even bought the Extreme ones and in 12 degree Celcisus weather they're only lasting 30 minutes beofre stopping at about 30% left. GoPro have suffered in not having a true competitor for years in my view.
For I use the action 3 for motorcycles and prefer the wider view and so many features than the GoPro easy user interface, mount system, battery life, no overheating, screw on nd filters, just all round better camera
Damn damn damn you sold me on the DJI Action 3. Sure there’s a risk with this apparent focusing issue but I don’t see the majority of folks having that issue.
Such a tough decision. I honestly prefer the ergonomics and UI of the Action 3. But I don't like having to agree to CCP endorsed terms of service to use. OTOH, I've never had a GoPro that hasn't had freezing issues. I know the whole deal about using an appropriate memory card, but in my experience, that's never fully resolved the issue.

I have the original Osmo Action. I was disappointed because its widest view was not very wide (relative to GoPro) and its external audio was unusable for my application (motorcycle helmet) due to no AGC and level overload for a wide range of mics. It looks like DJI made many improvements, but do you know what they did with the external audio besides making it compatible with a variety of USB mics? Do they have good AGC and/or manual gain control? Can you feed external power and still have an external mic via the USB-C? Are there any lavalier USB mics that easily fit in the cheekpad of a helmet?
You can order a pass through door for the GoPro, it holds the battery in place and the USB cable goes through a small window. You give up being water proof, but you get to keep it powered.

You can get all those by just doing a longer exposure for each picture creates motion blur. You might have to use a nd filter . To counter act a over exposed image. Luckily the osmo action can use a screw on nd filters.
As of January 16, 2023 One glaring feature that's still missing on the DJI Action 3 for photos is burst mode. I like taking 3 shots at a time in photo mode so I'm surprised they still don't have this. Could be a deal breaker for you.
FYI, I watch the majority of my RUclips content on my iPad(convenience and screen size)or Apple TV simply due to the screen size and never watch videos on my computer anymore. The links that you recommend and the contests that you want people to enter are simply not very easily accessible in those formats so I don’t use them. It’s easier to search from Amazon on my iPad or phone whichever is handier than to go to my computer and search the link. Hi, Actually I use GoPro 10, and I use the feature Quick Shot, that I quick press Record, and it start recording and stop for the time I configure, in my case 1 minute. No need to hold the record for 3 seconds... Is there a equivalent on the Osmo because I'm so tired about my GoPro freezing... Thank you for your nice videos.

Another amazing video from you! Thanks a lot! I use DJI for my motovlogging and I am really excited about the new DJI OA3. It seems that most of the things that has been bothering me, they are fixed now. I wonder if the remote control from the OA2 can be used with the OA3. One thing I really miss the ability to roughly trim the videos on the camera. Editing videos on the road, it would be so cool if I could trim those videos down a bit - especially when I forget to turn off the camera and now I have 30 minutes of me riding some boring road and now I am out of data :D
I keep buying action cameras but when I get to car shows I pull out my phone because of a gimbal and I don't run the risk of codec when it's time to edit. What gimbal do you use for your action cameras.
Please make a comparison between those two, maybe also with other new cameras like Insta 360's as a talking head studio camera. I think it would be interesting to see more possibilities. Maybe if something like insta 360 can be a good enough studio camera, or even for 2 person interview podcast, that will make it even more versatile. Thank you!

I'm on my THIRD or should I say I just sent my third OA 3 back. The first 2 had bad focus issues, the third was OK. However the color doesn't come close to the GP11. Great comparison. 1 point re usb powering of the GoPro with the volta and available seperatly you can get a gopro battery door that has a usb placed hole so that actually gives a better solution for powering from a battery bank as there is no door open on the camera. Small point but worth noting.
I actually ordered a case for my Hero 10 that has the mount for the external mic and it came with a door with the hole in it for the cord from Amazon. It was a surprise cuz I don't remember seeing it in the description. I think it was a smallrig case.
Simply: hero11 more image quality, better suited for vloging and mixing footage with professional cameras and when you want it mounted really securely. Dji better endurance, better for long shoots where quality is secondary but you just need long footage, change mounts often and a lot of footage (so more like main camera where you don't have secondary at all)
A fellow San Diegan! I wasn’t 100% sure until I saw Scripps pier haha. I live right by there. I’m a mountain biker and I’ve really been eying up the DJI since it has a very approachable price tag and more or less the same performance as the go pro. The main worry I have with it is that the magnetic mounting system could be too weak to take large, high-g impacts that come with the sport. How do you feel about the overall strength behind the magnets/would you ever be worried about losing the camera in those circumstances? Great video!
One more comment, the software is very important to me, for example loading pictures or video to my iPhone. I really like the feature of live record viewing on the phone. I was going to by the x3 but I think the DJI is better! Comparison? Cheers again Vancouver Island

Any sign of a case for the Action 3 with a cold shoe so I can mount my Rode Wireless Go II? Also any idea if the Action 3 retains any waterproof/water resistant ability with the USB-C door open?
I trust dji in terms of drones, but i trust go pro in terms of action camera. Gopro action cam is tested both quality and durability. I still have my hero 7 until now which had been thru a lot of challenging situations and weathers and recently just acquired hero 10.

They r from the 2. They work but aren’t as strong as the new mount from DJI.

Can you get live underwater footage with dji ? My go pro would lose live video soon as it goes under but will still record . Is the dji the same ?
Please make a comparison between those two, maybe also with other new cameras like Insta 360's as a talking head studio camera. I think it would be interesting to see more possibilities. Maybe if something like insta 360 can be a good enough studio camera, or even for 2 person interview podcast, that will make it even more versatile. Thank you!

Hi! can you do a detailed comparison video of the 2 action cams and their respective apps? would like to know how GoPro 11 app and Osmo Action 3 app currently fair against each other in terms of set up, user interface, ease of use, functionality, pros and cons, and tips or cool useful features during recording or after recording.
I'm on my THIRD or should I say I just sent my third OA 3 back. The first 2 had bad focus issues, the third was OK. However the color doesn't come close to the GP11. 1 point re usb powering of the GoPro with the volta and available seperatly you can get a gopro battery door that has a usb placed hole so that actually gives a better solution for powering from a battery bank as there is no door open on the camera. Small point but worth noting.
I actually ordered a case for my Hero 10 that has the mount for the external mic and it came with a door with the hole in it for the cord from Amazon. It was a surprise cuz I don't remember seeing it in the description. I think it was a smallrig case.
Simply: hero11 more image quality, better suited for vloging and mixing footage with professional cameras and when you want it mounted really securely. Dji better endurance, better for long shoots where quality is secondary but you just need long footage, change mounts often and a lot of footage (so more like main camera where you don't have secondary at all)
A fellow San Diegan! I wasn’t 100% sure until I saw Scripps pier haha. I live right by there. I’m a mountain biker and I’ve really been eying up the DJI since it has a very approachable price tag and more or less the same performance as the go pro. The main worry I have with it is that the magnetic mounting system could be too weak to take large, high-g impacts that come with the sport. How do you feel about the overall strength behind the magnets/would you ever be worried about losing the camera in those circumstances? Great video!

One more comment, the software is very important to me, for example loading pictures or video to my iPhone. I really like the feature of live record viewing on the phone. I was going to by the x3 but I think the DJI is better! Comparison? Cheers again Vancouver Island

Gopro 10 or action 3 which one is better since their cost is similar
I histogram would be a cool feature on both cameras. Setting the exposure is not allways easy on these tiny screens while im manual mode.
Any sign of a case for the Action 3 with a cold shoe so I can mount my Rode Wireless Go II? Also any idea if the Action 3 retains any waterproof/water resistant ability with the USB-C door open?
Ya there’s a bunch of third party sticks and tripod that have a cold shoe for mics and lights. Let me find a couple and paste links.

I trust dji in terms of drones, but i trust go pro in terms of action camera. Gopro action cam is tested both quality and durability. I still have my hero 7 until now which had been thru a lot of challenging situations and weathers and recently just acquired hero 10.
