Ive always loved the Mokey king stories. This explains why he has a cloud to travel on, as well as how his staff has changed over the course of this movie. Ive always heard him fighting "destiny" as a rebelious kind of thing, instead of a hopeful kind of thing like in this movie. Agreed. But then again, I guess it can also be seen as somewhat of a prequel to journey to the west. At the end of the movie, Wukong and Erlang plan to battle again, with both taking their own respective sides. This could be foreshadowing their eventual dual in the original story, where Erlang is sent at the suggestion of the Bodhisattva Guan Yin to battle Wukong after he wipes the floor with the Heavenly army, which included Prince Nezha and Juling Shen. Erlang ends up defeating and capturing Wukong with the aid of Laozi, which eventually leads to the Monkey King's banishment at the hands of the Buddha, thus triggering the events of the original story. It's also important to note that in the movie, Wukong gains the powers that he had learned in the original, including his staff's signature look. I don't particularly see this movie gaining a sequel, but if it does, I'm hoping that they follow up on an idea like this. P.S. If the movie's version of Tian Peng was based off of that character, I'm curious to know what part he'll play if a sequel is ever made.

There are a few gods who can hold their own against him but by the end of his story, yeah, in a straight one on one, no intervention fight, Wukong bodies bitches.
If I'm not mistaken, I remember the original mythology/story that there's only one general in heaven does equal and could rival Wukong's power, might be as Erlang in this movie... And the only being that are more powerful than Wukong are Buddha himself...
OMG I didn’t realise I’ve missed such a great retelling of Wukong! I was honestly quite sick of all the countless rehash of this fable but this movie breathes new air into the legend of Wukong! I’m going get my friends and family to watch it this weekend.
Saw this movie years ago and it was great. A mix of humor, drama and action. So much better than most of the garbage put out by certain large movie companies in the US.
I love Sun Wukong and I thought this movie had a great interpretation of him. After watching Monkey King Hero is Back, I became really interested in other Chinese mythology movies and it led me to Immortal Demon Slayer. No regrets!😁
A wise man once said: "Worry About Your Character, Not Your Reputation, Your Character Is Who You Are, Your Reputation Is Who People Think You Are" Idk I just feel like I want to share it😉
im starting to think the only way they know how to make a compelling movie for Wukong is to nerf him to the ground. the original myth of Wukong, not even the Jade Emperor can rival his power, he only get capture because he stop fighting due to realizing the fight has been dragging out for too long, killing his own monkey friends as well as his home. even after get capture, he break free and become unbeatable because now that he fight in the enemies turf, he didnt have to hold back. only when Budah show up that he get permanently captured
Films that have Wukong from Journey to the West to The Forbidden Kingdom are honestly my favorite because he’s such an interesting character with so much to tell!!
Hercules VS Sun Wukong The connections between Hercules and Sun Wukong are that both are mythological heroes who became enemies with gods and committed bad deeds (Hercules killed his family and Wukong constantly tricked the gods), leading to them redeeming themselves by going on a great quest (Hercules completing his 12 labours and Wukong going on a journey to the West to gather the Buddhist sutras, respectively), that ultimately let them ascend to godhood when completed.
But wukong sought vengeance against heaven in first place is because his mother role and lover that raised him the demon fox was killed unjustly also some of his monkey relatives while hercules situation was suppose hera hating him or etc.
I love how the general says the astrolith predicts everything, but has to intervene to destroy the village destroyed by the demon and that some one else initially stopes wukong
I think it is an interesting take on Journey to the West Kong fu genre lol. I found the lava coming out of his ear is a little gross, but then when he put the circlet on it to represent the gold rings I thought it was very cute.

I’m very certain I meant underpowered, not overpowered
he took 100,000 heaven guards head on and beat them
Because monke
Mr Brain Junkie, thank you for doing these summing up these movies. I don't have the time to watch these movies but because of you I can watch these movies in 15-20 minutes
Clone account
I Agree. He makes it entertaining and watchable..
And also it's more convenient too.
Your welcome
😱
i like this version of Wukong, interesting story, plus he's taking on a human form to hide his true powers
I always like the sun wukong mythology stories
Yes very entertaining
Yup
Love monke

Who doesn't
This movie makes me cry af 😭 this is a masterpiece, the song they are playing in this movie are so beautiful
What a badass movie! I freakin love the story of Wukong, there was another movie I saw about him that was really good where he was kinda goofy.
A chinese odyssey part 2?
This is like a live action anime and it doesn’t look that bad, nice
The stories and myths of the Great sage are so thrilling and interesting.
😱
I loved Journey to the West as young as a baby(my grandmother always told me the story so I know it hell well). Wukong is just a character trying to find his purpose and is an individual with a loving heart.
he is demon, good heart does not make sense....he is just a rebel....and represent humanity unwilliness to acept death.
lol no, didn't you know that he killed a bunch of thugs as soon as he got out of the mountain and then ran away after 唐僧 said he couldn't kill people
@@bladerj yeah lol he wasn't really good or bad (or nice)
He's an antihero.
Also a bully in the first part of Journey to the West but hey that's just my opinion
And it was one of the best, if not THE best, Sun Wukong adaptations I've ever seen.
Wow this channel is legendary. Never would've known about this beautiful film with you, thank you.
Also definitely got Goku DBZ vibes all over this story
goku was based off of son wu kong, flying nimbus, both are monkeys, in the original dbz he used a bo staff there are more but yea
Yeah your speak your truth 😁
I love the money king he's such a fun character
This movie was made under 60$ million budget. The CGI was very good.
Yeah for a non American movie
@@Henry00797 So what it’s better than a lot of American super hero movies
it's china, the workforce is really cheap and exploitable
Yes but some how It looks better than other Hollywood films
Can we just appreciate that he puts so much effort into making these and for our entertainment only? He doesn't even get any money from it because there are no ads
You can make money from views and likes
There is ads bro

I love the evolution his staff goes through. Lava staff > blazing iron staff > gold-plated iron staff with a hint of love 😆😆.
Still badass, change my mind.
This is one of the coolest titles of ever seen👌🏽
I’ve known plenty of stories about Wukong but this is honestly the best one
I've heard that the only one stronger than Sun Wukong is the Buddha.
Nobody beats swk after jttw, he is equal to the Buddha in the end, basically omnipotent
@@delsonlai2180 yes Erlang Shen was the only deity who rivaled wukong, they fought to stalemate in the novel
From what I heard he is the strongest non omnipotent character
I liked the part where Naruto and sasuk... i mean Sun Wukong and Erleng Shen used their combined force to defeat the female villian
Wrong manga. It's dragon ball! Goku
You mean arlen?
I think you meant Goku and Vegeta
Nope, I meant Naruto and Sasuke.
@@bird.of.hermes.4 well goku and vegeta are based off of sun wukong and ah zi
Not just a great adaptation, but dayyyymn a great OST as well, this is such an underrated gem!
The CGI and action scenes was sooo good… it was like watching a live action anime
The Legend of Monkey Demon Wukong is such a fascinating one.
OMG I didn’t realise I’ve missed such a great retelling of Wukong! I was honestly quite sick of all the countless rehash of this fable but this movie breathes new air into the legend of Wukong! I’m going get my friends and family to watch it this weekend.
For those of you that have watched "Journey to the west"
You'll know that his the money king
And his also called the great sage equal in heaven
Saw this movie years ago and it was great. A mix of humor, drama and action. So much better than most of the garbage put out by certain large movie companies in the US.
Man I love wukong stories so much and I can't wait to play black myth wukong
I love Sun Wukong and I thought this movie had a great interpretation of him. After watching Monkey King Hero is Back, I became really interested in other Chinese mythology movies and it led me to Immortal Demon Slayer. No regrets!😁
😱
This version of wukong series is one of my favourite especially the fight scene
Sun wukong :) heaven's equal
He's heaven's equal for a reason :)
One word Awesome 🙌👏
Love this I always come back and rewatch like 8 of your uploads. Beautiful wish they kept the same actors
A wise man once said: "Worry About Your Character, Not Your Reputation, Your Character Is Who You Are, Your Reputation Is Who People Think You Are"
Idk I just feel like I want to share it😉
Actually, that’s the wisest quote I’ve ever read in my life. ✊😎👍
Stephen Chows version was heart breaking, this one was a nice action film
im starting to think the only way they know how to make a compelling movie for Wukong is to nerf him to the ground. the original myth of Wukong, not even the Jade Emperor can rival his power, he only get capture because he stop fighting due to realizing the fight has been dragging out for too long, killing his own monkey friends as well as his home. even after get capture, he break free and become unbeatable because now that he fight in the enemies turf, he didnt have to hold back. only when Budah show up that he get permanently captured
The monkey king one was pretty good. He was pretty OP there.
Thanks Mr brain for sharing this massage
LOVED IT!! 👍
Why Can't They Make A Dragonball Movie That Is As Good As This Movie
The problem is the super sayan hair
@@pain10yearsago84 I don't think it's a problem. Have you watched the short film on RUclips "DragonBall Z: Light of hope"?
@@2eleven40 No but ill look into it
I love these types of videos keep them up there super interesting
More to come!
I think the directors of this movie should being DBZ to life.
there’s so many shows about the monkey king, it never ends and I love it, one of my fav tales
Wow... Very cool. Love the history take on Wukong. Very cool movie too.
Oh WOW, how have I not even heard of this movie's existence?! 🤩🤩😍
I swear these type of movies are underrated af
I loved this so much!
I Love wukongs Design in the movie
Me too
Mr. brain junkie you are the best you tuber
"Goku is still best wukong."
- someone, somewhere out there
How 😂 comparing 40 years worth of dragon ball to a 500 year old mythology 😂☠️😂
one of the best live action movie for sure.
Films that have Wukong from Journey to the West to The Forbidden Kingdom are honestly my favorite because he’s such an interesting character with so much to tell!!
Really good fight scenes
Your videos get better:)
Hercules VS Sun Wukong
The connections between Hercules and Sun Wukong are that both are mythological heroes who became enemies with gods and committed bad deeds (Hercules killed his family and Wukong constantly tricked the gods), leading to them redeeming themselves by going on a great quest (Hercules completing his 12 labours and Wukong going on a journey to the West to gather the Buddhist sutras, respectively), that ultimately let them ascend to godhood when completed.
I'm sure if they met they'd be good drinking buddies and then beat the shit out of zeus
Death Battle just made it happen. Watch it. The fight concept is so unique.
😱
But wukong sought vengeance against heaven in first place is because his mother role and lover that raised him the demon fox was killed unjustly also some of his monkey relatives while hercules situation was suppose hera hating him or etc.
Yes and both are half god and gakf human aka Demi-Gods they both are stronger than their verse's gods but are not purely full gods themselves.
Ah yes I didnt know goku was THAT similar, nimbus and the staff the best combo.
Fun fact: Goku is based on Sun Wukong!
Edit: To all people who know this fact just leave it alone. To people who didn't know, now you know!

I love how the general says the astrolith predicts everything, but has to intervene to destroy the village destroyed by the demon and that some one else initially stopes wukong

It's channels like this where you'll find interesting movies you never even heard about and I love it

I think it is an interesting take on Journey to the West Kong fu genre lol. I found the lava coming out of his ear is a little gross, but then when he put the circlet on it to represent the gold rings I thought it was very cute.
Darn why are these movies more interesting than avengers endgame
