The first time I saw Akira at the cinema (around 2001, after seeing it on tape a hundred times), I spotted things I never noticed before, particularly in the scene where Kaneda first notices Kei - when they make eye contact you can see her blue eyeliner, which I never noticed on my low quality VHS, but it makes his moment of recognition click in a way it never did before.
If live action remake happens I'm going opening night to point and laugh, and I am curious how bad they can fuck up Kaneda's powerbike cause you know they will.
well, you shouldn't forget that budget of this anime was skyhigh for whole anime industry of its time. And besides it failed on theatres ))) But sure it is something special and outstanding I'd also advice you to watch Ouritsu Uchuugun: Honneamise no Tsubasa (Royal Space Force). Its detalisation is also superhigh and eyecandy!

That opening is godlike dude. Also it's amazing how good this video looks for being posted 10 years ago. Other than the bit with the helicopter explosion, everything looks so crisp and clean.

So you can't compare two different arts. If you want to know my PERSONAL opinion, I think that Akira film is one of the best if not the best animation in History. Manga has other beautiful things, but you can't compare the two, they are two different masterpieces. Otomo didn't compress anything, making the film longer consists in creating a TV Serie and not a Film.

As you realize, Akira said that Tokyo Olympic would be held in 2020 when it was published in 1988. Also, graffiti on the wall said Olympic should be canceled. Moreover, in the newspaper in Akira, it was said WHO accused the government of its management of the spread of virus.
Really nice job. Some great edits in the first, third, and fourth quarter. I will say that the second quarter seemed to lose a lot of the creative editing that the others showed and, with the song having such heavy beats, missed a lot of opportunity for good cuts. Great job overall, though! Really felt this one in my bones.
Two thoughts: I need to watch Akira again.
And, I hope that American live-action remake never happens.
