It was the forehand. You can clearly see Fed hit three forehands to the get Rafa further and further off the court and then he pulls the trigger with the FH down the line.

I don’t think this was a great match. A good one nevertheless. Two old men coming back from varying degrees of injuries and playing well within their limitations. Not that special a match.

2017 Australian Open ... won by Mr. Federer. Amazing point, audience trying to keep as silent as they can but in awe. These spectators were the lucky ones to have tickets to watch this match. I will never forget this...
This was so much fun to watch. I honestly dont think I've had more fun and excitement watching a tennis final than this. Was in Aussie-land during this, too. Absolutely incredible. 2017 was a year to remember
After an amazing volley of powerful, finessed ground strokes relentlessly tracked down by the tenacious Raffie, Federer patiently sets up a deadly, precisely executed passing shot ! Raffie’s ridiculous get on the first passing try, just sent Federer back to a series of forehands which forced Raffie farther and farther on the wide side, then the unanswerable short dagger thrust just far enough on the passing side to be unreachable. These two masters with incredibly complete games, along with the tireless Jokovic, are in a class all by themselves.
