- Das Drillteam der 4. Kompanie Wachbataillon BMVg mit dem Spielmannszug des Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr beim Musikfest der Bundeswehr 2017 in Düsseldorf.
Der Paradeschritt ist eine Form des Gleichschritts, der 1813 von König Friedrich Wilhelm III. in der Preußischen Armee eingeführt und seitdem weltweit von mehr als 70 Ländern übernommen wurde.

Endlich mal ein Musikkorps, dass sich traut den Paradeschritt anzuwenden. Dieser gehört zur Deutschen Miltiärtradition und sollte bei der Bundeswehr wieder Einzug halten.
Warum nicht immer so ? 😊Zumindest im protkollarischem Dienst. Paradeschritt ist darüber hinaus auch im Gegensatz zum "Exerzierschritt" der NVA und dem ebenfalls dazugehörigen Unrechtsregime ein neutraler Begriff.
Träumt weiter, bei unseren Traditionsabschaffungsgeilen Funktionären im BMVG und in der Generalität kommt sowas bestimmt nicht. Im Gegenteil im vorletzten Loyalheft (Magazin für uns Reservisten war ein Beitrag die aktive Truppe denkt bereits laut drüber nach Formaldienst zugunsten anderer Ausbildungen zu streichen die wichtiger sind bzw sei Formale auch nicht mehr Zeitgemäß. Nee auch wenn es was hermacht das passiert bestimmt nicht.

Diese Armee hat sich längst von jeder deutschen Tradition verabschiedet und wird bestimmt den Stechschritt nicht mehr einführen. Viele Einheiten haben sogar Probleme mit dem einfachen Gleichschritt. Ein Lacher zum Schluß : Deutsche Soldaten marschieren nie rückwärts.
You're right. When I see the Bundeswehr marching 90 percent of those guys are doing as if they are on some weirdo picnic.

Let me interject a bit here. I actually (at the time this video was taken) was in email contact with Oberstabsfeldwebel Christian Richter, the drum major (Tambour major) of the Stabsmusikkorps Spielsmannzug. I asked him about the Stechschritt (or Paradeschitt). He said that he was trying to get it incorporated into drill shows as a matter of historical perspective. I know he must have received a lot of blowback from the higher ups on this one. If you'll notice, in this particular paradeschritt, they don't lift their legs as high as the WWII or WWI methods. From what I understand, they were only allowed to do it 2 or 3 times total (for various shows). You have to remember, that Christian Richter actually started his military career in the East German (DDR) Army, in particular their military bands and when the country united in 1989, he elected to go to the Bundeswehr. He plays the tuba and guitars and was the drum major for quite a few years (15 to 18 years, I think).
If you want to see a better version of this Paradeschritt conducted by Christian and his Spielmannszug, check out this drill demonstration from a show conducted in Canada. I think it looks great - but again, notice that the legs aren't brought up very high - but high enough to add a bit of sparkle, to be sure! You are spot on! Many people overlook the fact that the stabsmusikkorps was led by a former NVA officer! There is no reference to the parade step in the Bundeswehr drill manual since it had an extremely negative connotation in the Western World. There is also footage of another Bundeswehr band (led by former NVA personnel) performing the East German "straßenmarsch Nr. 1"
The prussian goose-step wasnt really higher.
Only the Wehrmacht and NVA ones.

So, will you still use the goose step in future military ceremonies? I am looking forward to it. I believe many people around the world are looking forward to seeing the Prussian tradition again. Germany has become a peaceful country and there is no need to draw a line with the past.
Don't have your expectations so high! This Musikkorps was ironically led by a former NVA officer and his decision to use the parade step was outside of official regulations.
Changes will happen one goose-step at a time!!!😁

Die Marine macht das manchmal. Das Heer und die Luftwaffe hab ich leider noch nicht im Paradeschritt gesehen.
Gehört meiner Meinung nach standardmäßig beim Vorbeimarsch der Ehrenformation und dem Schwenkmanöver des Musikkorps gemacht.
Beim normalen Marschieren sollte man nach wie vor Gleichschritt benutzen. NVA, Wehrmacht und SS haben beispielsweise mit Stechschritt beim Wachposten schon stark übertrieben.

Oh, ja, es ist eben preussisch- deutsche Militärtradition! Fast alle Armeen haben weltweit auch komplette Einheiten in historischer Uniform; , wir haben wenigstens noch den K98, die Stiefel, und diese weltbekannten Märsche! Den " Paradeschritt", nicht den "Stechschritt" hatten wir bereits in der kaiserlichen Armee!

Das ist einfach das Wesentliche. Wir müssen das Wehrmachtselement beseitigen. Preußen ist Deutsche geschichte und Tradition.

Auch vor dem Dritte Reich gab es die hohe Stechschritt beim Wachtposten.
Fair doos to the Corps for taking up that goose step. The Prussian goose step dates back centuries and I don’t believe that the current German nation should be ashamed of that. The fact that German ceremonial tradition has been used by certain leaders who shan’t be named does not take about from that in the slightest, and I think a line must be drawn to distinguish such. After all, I’m the total history of Prussia and the German people, the 1930-40s is a very small amount of time.
The German Empire, and the Kingdom of Prussia are not worthy of tradition (and the Nazis obviously too). Hence why little tradition has carried over.
Afaik, the traditional schritt is not the same in the platoon/band as it is for the leader. The thigh high Stechschritt is not "nazi", it is for all I've seen by individuals. This "paradeschritt" (named so to avoid discussion I think) is very alike to normal squady goose step. Whether it be NVA, Wehrmacht or Prussian.
The NVA adopted the high step for squad leaders and wachablösung. I've seen films from the sixties and the squad used a small goose step and Soviet fist. So... very Prussian except for the fist. On top of that, the Wehrmacht is very very alike. Nothing suggests extreme different approach. Of course, the NVA is the weird one being a "socialist" army yet keeping "monarchist" tradition.
To be honest, I see many discussions on this point, but it is exagerated.
Let's make one thing clear: the paradeschritt/stechschritt is OMNIPRESENT in Germany. Marches, fairs, Schutzenfesten.... look it up. Young boys and girl walk along. It is simply not official. Hear the crowds clapping here. They adore it. The Bundeswehr scrapped it. But it is not illegal or banned. Why should it?
This Christian Richter is a brave man. The schritt is just as Prussian as the marches themselves, as the other drills as is the eagle in the German emblem. The discussion on whether the schritt is relevant in modern days is completely superfluous. NO march in the world has tactical meaning today. It is an expression of tradition and identity. The democratic Weimar Republic kept the Prussian drill, the wachablösung etc... It was not seen as tyranny, it was German.
Many of the non Prussian yet based on Prussian style marches (Russia, China, yes even Ukraine, etc ect) are less expressive but rather theatrical. They are partial copies and look like copies only to serve the regime. North Korean's parades are a farce. They are all what is thrown at todays Germany if it "would" use the Prussian march: pompous, made to intimidate and most of all completely traditionless.
Bundeswehr, do not be affraid to choose your own ways. The Stechschritt is actually your tradition.

Der Exerzierschritt ist noch ausbaufähig, aber finde es trotzdem gut das der Exerzierschritt vorgeführt wird. Das sind Deutsche Traditionen...
Die meisten Traditionen wurden der Bundeswehr mit dem Ministerbeschluss einer Frau von der Leyen (Flintenuschi) genommen und verboten!

This is quite interesting. Was there no backlash or any media coverage of this? I'm thinking especially because it's an official Bundeswehr drill team, which represents the country (including abroad, I've seen the same drill set and the same march step being done in Canada too). It's definitely not an official parade step, so maybe they just did it as part of a drill which also incorporated this as a historic parade step? I'm particularly interested in hearing from those of you reading German news (or speaking the language better than I can). I'd be of course happy to hear that there wasn't any backlash, but I'm just surprised.
it is indeed the exact, Prusso-German Paradeschritt. Referring documents are called "Exerzierregelement". In the early 1870s, German Army ordered, that the Paradeschritt must not be executed overly exaggerated. Foots should be risen as high as necessary to reach the required length of step, not up to the knees.

Nur in der Wehrmacht und NVA. So wie hier war es auch in der kaiserlichen Armee und der Reichswehr. Das ist der originale preußische Schritt. Der von dem immer alle reden, aber nur die wenigsten kennen, weil sie sich nur Videos der NVA und Wehrmacht anschauen.

Ähmmm ich nehme dir ja nur ungern die Illusion. Aber der preußische Stechschritt war recht niedrig. Er sollte lediglich das Übersteigen einer Leiche in sich bewegender Formation ermöglichen ohne nach unten schauen zu müssen. Das war die eigentliche Idee seinerzeit.
Die Beine auf Hüfthöhe oder gar höher zu reißen ist sinnloser Wehrmachts- und Ostblock-Kram.

Der originale preußische Schritt bleibt unter Kniehöhe. "Hoch die Haxen" ist nur Wehrmacht und NVA. Vielleicht mal Videos der kaiserlichen Armee und Reichswehr anschauen. Dann wüsste man auch mal wie der preußische Schritt aussieht...
