Before the world programmed me, I was super social, fun, had no insecurities and genuinely loved dancing. Now I'm extremely introverted, emotionally sensitive, anxious and insecure. But things are better now, I actually love myself so much now.

*when you're talking about how hard it is to look back on pictures where you look conventionally beautiful, i felt that on a **_spiritual_** level. When I had long hair, looked really natural and wore 'feminine' clothing, I was **_pretty_** according to societal standards. But I was not confident in myself at all. Now that I have a shaved head, enjoy wearing heavy eyeliner and wear a hybrid of aesthetics, I feel so much more confident because I look like _ME_. Don't get me wrong I still feel insecure about certain things but I remind myself to not view myself with the male gaze and know that I am authentically myself. GO SHAVE YOUR HEAD IF YOU WANT TO it really has forced me to be comfortable in my appearance and also **#bodyneutrality*

I have thought about it for like two years until i shaved my head one year ago and it was just about the best thing eveer!! I feel so free- I just don`t care anymore what people think! Sometimes I go out with oversized jeans and oversized shirt and sometimes i "dress up" and.. it`s honestly just great.
one thing I was always scared of is changing. I used to hold this mindset that I can only define who I am as a person once. For example, in school, I thought the major I chose would define the rest of my career trajectory and I had to stay that person back in freshmen year who chose that major. But I realized that everyone evolves and youre allowed to redefine yourself at any point of your life. We dont have to uphold the image of someone we thought we were going to be from years ago. I know you talked about changing hair but I think the idea of being able to reinvent yourself goes across all facets of life! yay to letting go of limiting beliefs about ourselves!!
yes! one thing about being young is that we feel that- everything (our partners, friends, jobs) is so permanent, and all of our emotions are so BIG. like everything seems to be the end of the world or so core-shaking. it's a blessing to feel so deeply but we have so much more life to live! the only constant in life is change. i love this, sam!

Ok not gonna lie, when I first started watching your videos, I wasn't a huge fan. I didn't know why, but even though I felt that way, I had the urge to stick around and continue to watch your videos. As months and years passed, I realized I had negative feelings towards you because you are like my childhood self. Positive, but also secretly (was) self loathing, happy, looks at the world with genuine eyes, cares about others and what's going on in the world. I think subconsciously I was mad at myself for losing that part of my important childhood and I took it out on you (I never wrote anything negative, just all in my head haha). As I become older and realize a lot of things about myself and become more and more ok with myself, I see you for who you really are. The negative feelings are all gone. You're the person I look forward to to get inspired, to feel better about myself and feel empowered. Mostly importantly, you made me find my childhood self again. Be happy, love everything - especially yourself! life is too fucking short! Thank you!

@@RainBow-wp2lv I absolutely agree. It's a shitty thing for me to do to someone and I truly feel bad for doing that to her and probably to others around me. Miserable people are infectious and I would never want to be that person again I've learned a lot from Amy and I thank her so much for being kind and so open that people like me can learn from her.
it would be insane if you started a podcast! i definitely felt you when you were talking about how your hair was a blanket and it was a main factor that defined your beauty. i bleached my hair and dyed it green as well after a breakup, and havent been able to get it back to the dark brown i had before ...

Haha, I'm not an extreme minimalist, but damn I felt it.
Fun fact: i also identify as an ogre but.... i've always kept my hair short because in my mind "only pretty girls can have long pretty luxious hair" and i didn't deserve that. i've finally let my hair grow and i'm really taking care of it and i'm starting to feel like a princess and that makes me happy. it's so fun how everyone sees beauty so differently

I love seeing women want to deepen their relationship with themselves cut their hair/shave their head during that process (I'm mixed with black and white, so seeing women outside the black community show that hair isn't "just hair" makes me so happy).
this video made me cry!! i resonated so much with everything you said. im also 26 and STILL hold on so much to what i thought i was, and wasnt allowed to do or be. even just silly stuff. there are soo many exaamples of this!
when i was in grade 8, i had homework to draw a self-portrait. i was semi-proud of what i did but didnt allow myself to even let on that i liked it, because my default to insult myself before others could insult me. my art teacher liked it and showed it as an example to the class. but because i made fun of it prior, my friends started laughing at it and i never allowed myself to think i could be good at drawing, even though i took art into the end of school, i never really drew again. now ive been learning to draw as an adult, and lovingg it so much, i bought myself an ipad air for procreate!!
when i was in 5th grade , my friend made such a big deal about how ""good"" it was to be a tomboy, and i followed suit. only in the past 2 years ive started to ""allow"" myself to fully love pink?!
when i was younger, i thought i was too fat and unattractive to dance. now im taking lessons on steezy studios and i'm terrible, and probably will never do the routines infront of anyone, even my partner, but im having so much fun and honouring 13 year old me.

Amy, I love how much you've changed. Having seen your trajectory it has been nothing short of courageous and inspiring for many. Using your platform to inspire growth in others is such a noble undertaking even if it wasn't the original intent. I always say that we are not meant to live life for someone else but for ourselves. I'd rather live the meager life of my own than the inauthentic opulent life of another. You never escape your souls purpose. From one soul to another!!

I started collecting dolls last year because I wasn't able to buy any when I was a kid. I am 23 now and seeing you buy toys made me so happy. I was obsessed with Bratz dolls because they were that BITCH!!. I am waiting for the new collection so I can start collecting.
haha i love the hair talk, i feel like i went through the same journey! never wanting to dye my healthy brown locks, then i bleached it and did every fun color i could think of! last fall i shaved my head and it was the BEST thing- ever!! its so freeing, it was a spiritual journey in itself just cutting it off. now as it grows, i grow yo!

I thought it was just me who felt that I couldn’t cut my hair because I wasn’t confident enough in the rest of my appearance. I keep telling myself that I need to lose weight if I want to cut my hair even though I got compliments when I wore a bobbed wig for a musical.

Wow, I really needed to hear that inner child pep talk. It was such a simple message, but I'm turning 27 soon and feel this immense pressure to be more "mature" and sometimes feel like I shouldn't do/wear certain things because I need to "act my age" and it's "cringey". But this was the confirmation I needed to just do what I want, regardless of whether it's "appropriate for my age" or not, thank you 💖
I’ve recently been indulging in nostalgia to rekindle the carefree child in me, and through that finding myself
I shaved my head in September 2019 and I had mixed feelings about it. I loved it at first but the growing out process was personally difficult. I felt ugly and out of place everywhere I went but this experience has really changed me. I now see myself differently, I'm more humble. Now I look back at pictures of myself and wish I embraced my buzzcut more. If you're going to shave your head Amy, I say do it! It is a journey

I just got rid of almost all of my hair and took off nail polish. Reinventing myself kinda became a way to feel happy every few months. It became like constant, fake hair fake nails new clothes constantly just to quell the feeling of dissatisfaction I felt inside, spent weeks looking for new countries to move to and new places. Finally I decided to just stop and cut off my hair and take it all off and live in the nothingness and create that love for life by living it not seeking it!

Oh I felt the exact same about using hair as protection ! 3 years ago I had my hair so long it was touching my butt! but I knew I was keeping it long because "long hair is so beautiful" and I had a very toxic relationship at that time and that person would tell me it looked innocent ?? I had no idea. A few months ago I chopped everything to my ears lol I hated it at first too ! Ok but I love this, as a child I was so interested in so much stuff and thus just knew so much, I was exploring and just Viking while loving to dance and then the typical German teenage world hit me and I got such bad anxiety and depression, but luckily I’m going to therapy and it’s slowly getting batter but I wish I got that curiosity and knowledge back (so I definitely relate to the buying toys to make up for lost childhood things)

amy!!! i love the hair!! this videos timing is so crazy because i have recently been struggling with the idea of dying my hair, i was the most conventionally attractive maybe in hs i had long black hair too and since then (that was like 5 years ago) i have had like 7 diff colors like pink and purple but then i shaved it n it was so difficult, i felt so vulnerable and insecure!!! growing it out about now i have a bob and i wanted to go back to pastel pink or blonde but i felt scared because through all my crazy colors and bald head i longed for the safety of my long black hair and wanting to look feminine, girly, dainty and being perceived as beautiful ur little hair speech really hit home and did give me some hope to do whatever with my hair so thank u :)
