Good luck with your business. I did the same thing almost 20 years ago. I worked full time standing at a Bridgeport during the day and came home and ran a TM1 and a TL1 at night and my wife would run them during the day. The last 5 years I have done it full time at home
ive just bought a super mini mill 2, about to venture on the same journey, work aerospace at night and run my shop in the day. i know its a lot but surely it will be worth it,
Congrats! I did the same thing a year and a half ago. Had to semi-disassemble the wire loom to get clearance into the garage (less than an inch). A year after making parts in the garage, sold the house, moved into a small shop, bought a new house, and said good bye to my job of 15 years. Side note - good choice to epoxy the floors. It's just a cleaner look and helps keep things clean.
I had the same issue except I'm running a15 horsepower rotary phase converter on my Haas . I added a gigantic three-phase LC filter and voltage stabilizer right in front of my VF 0e best propped up the low line voltage and now I have a happy machine. You can also change the voltage tabs inside your machine. You're always better with your DC bus voltage a little high versus a little low because it forces your amplifiers to supply more current can you give them low voltage
I'm not even able to afford the electricity to power this machine, but maybe someday, so I'm subscribed to you just to learn and feel how it's like to own this baby
You can when it makes parts! You can make it happen no problem! Proper planning and hard work goes a long long way. A used machine or a Tormach can easily get you making parts that pay for the machine. If you want it bad enough, you can make it happen for sure
need to put a steel wire pulled tight with a turnbuckle and connected to each side of the garage door so it clears the garage door as its going up and down.. and pick up a small roll of coolerroo shade cloth and shower curtain rings that have little rollers on them and hang the shade cloth. this allows you some privacy to cars driving by when the door is open.. its just an idea..
I put a Haas TM 2P in my garage some years ago but couldnt keep it due to lack of work...I sure do miss it, but looking at putting in another order, this time i wont have big payments on it. Best of luck to you!!
My Mini Mill’s getting delivered tomorrow!! But the Haas tech can’t be here until the following week to get the install done and all set up. Thanks for sharing!!

Unrelated, but i FUCKING LOVE that white floor man great job on that color choice. i definitely know what im getting when I get my garage built. Also gonna throw a cnc machine in there, although not sure what yet. Great video.
The beginning of the story. A CNC Mill in your garage. Just enough of a machine to make you hungry for more. Next question is ? Will a VF2 fit in this garage, LOL. Nice shop and house also. All the best with your journey to what next ???
You said it - one day I hope to get a 5 axis, but I will need a bigger garage! I don't know where this journey is going to take me, but I hope to keep you guys posted!
@@517industries2 The main thing is Not to stop doing what you enjoy doing. What machines you finish up with ? Will depend on the types of jobs that come in the door. 5 axis Mills are great. For me i definitely prefer a 5 Axis Lathe. Wish you all the best on your journey. Regards Peter.
I went through comparable pricing on the Haas site, and a TM-2 is only slightly more than the mini. If you have the space the larger machine makes sense, although then you'd need 3PH.
Golden retrievers are the best! Is your father in this line of work? Or they were just super generous in making their garage over into a sick maker den? Keep up the good work man
About compresor you need 4 cubic fit per minute of air , and minimum 85 psi, which almost any compresor for about 2-3000$ can make . For amperage I think at list 40A but talk to electrician . I do have in our shope 5 HAAS and I think 60-80A minimum instalation are capable , but wee have one UMC750SS , two VF4SS , one DM2 HAAS ( super fast ) , one Lathe ST20Y . Wee have 2 powerfool copmresors but because wee have also send blast machine and that device eat a lot of air . For only one super mini mill you need any compresor that can make 85 psi and 4 cubic fit in a ninute
The mini can be wired either for single or three phase. I have used a 20 year old 12 gallon Craftsman air compressor. The mill doesn't like anything over 120psi so a small compressor is OK.
Hi Priit thank you for the kind words - yeah my goal is to make some Aluminum upgrade kits. I haven't thought of delrin - but I am working on skeletonizing the aluminum parts as suggested in a previous video by a commenter.
How much floor space would I need to set up a Haas Mini Mill into a garage? 1 phase or 3 phase power? How did you address the electrical needs in a residential setting? Any special permits needed? Thanks in advance, sir.
I'm in the market myself for a mill, for my residential garage, how tall is the z axis when fully extended, I think my ceilings are 9'. Any suggestions about buying this with or without other things, or go for a mini mill 2 or super? looking for real suggestions here.
Sub'd just to see how this goes with the Haas. i am in a similar boat with the work I do - just not sure I want to get into a huge payment, but I need a better machine to make parts in a timely manner.
How much noise does a mill like this make? I have a Cnc router in my garage and am just waiting for the cops to knock on my door when I am working. I also live in residential area.
Hey John - I use a California Air Tools Air Compressor - It is pretty quite and is on the other side of the back wall. I just put a small pipe through the wall.
I hope it can! There is a pretty thick slab under it. The epoxy where the feet are won't make it, but that can be patched if I ever move the machine. It is not a conditioned space, but it is pretty consistent there. I had an electrician install a 240 circuit.
I can measure - but Andrew is correct - you can take a chain off if you can't make it through the opening. The specs on the website are pretty accurate.

Machine prices are right on the Haas website.
Hey Jason! The garage probably cost about 4k to redo - and I got the machine for 13k off MSRP due to a end of year sale.

Yeah this was a decision point for me - I wanted to keep it simple power wise. The next machine will be 3 phase ;)
All tool room series mills can run on single phase power.
Tm and tl series machines can run off either 3PH or 1PH. And even if you cant get 3PH power you can still a rotary phase converter.
tool setter is so close to work piece!!! 😲 haha
Can you make a video talking about what options you got on your mill? Auger? Spindle rpm? Costs?
