I appreciate how Dana never dismisses our belongings as unimportant or useless. Seeing a crafty setting opened my eyes to the questions I need to be asking in my sewing room. Especially the ones with the answers "I wouldn't look for it". I think I have a lot of items in that category but am afraid I may need it BUT I saw in the video how to let go of things to make space.
From what I can see ...things look AMAZING!! GREAT JOB!! YES, LOVE DANA K. WHITE!!....her methods are INCREDIBLY HELPFUL!! Dana, you should wear that color more often....it brings out your eyes. Thank you, both....ENJOYED!! ❤
Here from Dana's channel. This was brave and inspiring, thank you for sharing your room with us. What I love is that you have so much "organized storage" (cubicles and such) that at a quick glance, it all looks so neat and tidy, but within that, there is clutter, and that that stack of storage containers on the floor is actually clutter neatly delayed. At a quick look, my craftroom looks the same. But all my neatly stacked paper storage containers, and neatly stacked photo containers (for the scrapbooking I almost never do), are delayed clutter. Thank you for sharing this, it will help me!
Your floor looks great, Cara! I'm so impressed. You are a brave woman. I love how open and vulnerable you are with the process. I think many of us can relate.
Ooh I love this! A different approach to cleaning and organizing, clean/organize as you go! I don't have room to take everything out and reorganize, I have to do it all IN my room and this is perfect! I think I can do this! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..... 😁
Just come from Dana’s channel, you are a brave lady l have subscribed to your channel you did so much in one hour you should be very proud of yourself best wishes from Lynda
I've had all of my craft stuff in storage for a few years. I finally have a craft room again and I'm doing what I call "The Great Unboxing" and setting up my new space. This video was really helpful and has reinforced a few of the things I'm trying to do, for example everything needs a home and using natural boundaries. Thanks for sharing your process 😊
Cara... you're judging yourself WAY too harshly. Almost all of us have your kind of space or WAY WORSE (I did) and when we take it one hour at a time, we get it done! You GO, GIRL!!! ❤
This video series is really helping me work through my craft room. I did an hour clearing my hall floor and an hour or more cleaning around my desk and the desktop. I'm not done, I will eventually be moving furniture for things to be more ergonomic and functional, but... it is definitely better than when I started. Thank you Dana for your systematic approach and Thank you Cara for your crafty enthusiasm. Better is definitely great.
Yep, Noone can come in my house, it's like an episode of hoarders 😂 This was great to watch this process. Everytime I go to clean and organize, I end up with a big mess in another room and not much accomplished. I like this method, it might actually work :)
This way of organizing is so inspiring. I did the "remove everything" method and all it did was clutter the hall and other rooms in my house so I had to put it all back. I am trying this for sure!!
I’ve been following Dana for a couple of years and was so excited to see a craft room session. My sewing room is my “shame space” and it was inspiring to see you jump on board and get soooo much done! Thanks for this - I’m subscribing❤😊
I’m here from Dana’s channel. I have a studio that right now makes yours look immaculate!! 🤦🏻♀️ I totally understand the level of stuff!! You did a great job!! Keep up the good work and I will do the same over here!! 🥰
So very grateful to you both. This method is wonderful. I have been paralysed to even start because my craft room is such a mess. Now I know better and I say over and over, "Just one hour better today!" And that I can do! ❤
@@clairegaskin1299 Thank you 😊, each Friday in January Dana and I will be discussing another section of the craft room. Also all month long other crafters are sharing how they organize their space. All links will be added to a page daily. Link is in the description:)
I've been following Dana for a few years now and have been using her method for stuff in my house. However, I've had a difficult time with facing organizing my craft space and using this method there. I love that you've collaborated with her and now I've seen it in action. Thank you so much for doing this!!! 💕
You did a fabulous job! It’s so hard letting go of things I might “need” someday but keeping it all just clutters up my space & makes it so hard to actually be creative.
Sounds really fun. Thanks for this. I'm hoping to preorder the book very soon. I've just purchased several books. Not realising that a new book was coming out! But now I want her new book. Lol!
Thank you so much for sharing this process. I can't even see the floor of my craft room and have stacks falling over so I don't quite feel like I can relate lol but this was so inspiring. A big part of junk journaling is repurposing even trash so making even the throwing away garbage goal can be a huge deal. Your craft space looks great!
I’ve come to you from Dana’s video. We are in the process of swapping our lounge and craft studio around, and there are so many things I can take away from this.
Just discovered your project as I am doing my annual craft room declutter and reorg as I move to my new favourite style of textile art. I appreciate your '1-hour better" and its associated debrief. I am a little late joining but am going to jump in now and take the challenge of the rest of the prompts
Loved watching your session with Dana; these are sessions that us crafters can relate too!! Now I feel like I can tackle my box of vintage ephemera too !
thank you for being willing to be vulnerable in that process it was very helpful and you are very relatable new subscriber now and I'm looking forward to trying this method I've never heard of it before but I did download her printable and I'm following along all month!
Well done Cara! Hugs to you! Big hugs! The actual video was a little bit painful to watch, only because I sympathize with making those painful decisions about which things to keep and finding room for something you want to keep.
What great timing! The one room in our house that has not been decluttered is my office/craft room, and I just began the hard work a couple days ago. So thanks for Dana’s video and now yours, Cara! And you did a great job - it was kind of magic watching that box be emptied so quickly and logically! 👏
You are awesome and you are an inspiration to all of us who are working to de clutter our spaces. Dana’s no mess process is awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Wow Cara! I love these videos. I went over and watched the decluttering one then came back to yours. Currently, I can't even close the door to my room. I am planning to work on my room this week and next! Definitely need to get rid of stuff. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!❤
I think the hardest for people to grasp in that method is the concept of not leaving a mess at the end of the hour. We have been told for YEARS to pull out all your like items, like pull all the paints to go through them. Well then you end up with a pile of paints to be donated, a pile to be thrown away, etc. Piles! This is impressive. And certainly doable. So glad you contacted with Dana to do this collab Thank you!!!
I am so ready to declutter in 2025! I already started yesterday. I really love the take it there now approach (thank you Dana). It can take me longer to get stuff done but it gets done and I get more steps on my Fitbit, so win win. :)
Oh, yes, I have people who call all my crafting stuff trash. Specifically, my husband and adult daughter, who still lives at home. It is very hurtful. I do have a lot. My back room and basement are overflowing and it is so overwhelming. I have started in one corner of the basement. I can’t set aside a specific time to work on it, so it may take a while to get back to it. Thank you. Love you and may God bless you.
I didn’t do what you said, which was go check out her video first. But I will definitely go now.😂 I just don’t see any help possible for someone who has a corner out of their bedroom. There is just too much stuff! 😂 Regardless, I am so glad that you are doing this series. And I will definitely be doing as much as I can. Happy new year! Hugs 🤗❤️
I would've never believed the progress I have made using Dana's method. You can start at the door to the bedroom & do 5-10 minutes/day. That could easily equal a whole hour over one week....& seeing progress will really motivate you to continue! 😊
I only have a corner of my bedroom, as well. However I have a huge closet in which to store stuff and I am going to try Dana’s method there. My problem is that I have an issue in my head that when I donate some things, 1) I will want it/need it in the future and 2) I am throwing away $….while financially ok now, I was destitute for several years, barely able to keep my house and have food to eat, and the money part of it is a huge thing with me.
A. You are NOT a slob. B. You have absolutely NO reason to be embarrassed. C. I can't help but wonder if the next step might be to consider what needs to change? The why of it getting cluttered in the first place. D. It is looking absolutely fantastic!
Cara, thanks for sharing, I needed this, hope you had a nice Holiday. Big hugs. You have such a petty face, beautiful skin too, sorry I had to say that.
I am loving watching all the videos and seeing the results. Here is my question: My craftroom is overflowing because I recently started making journals, How do I make room for new supplies? I have some spaces I need to go through and downsize or donate all (example: a drawer of dies that I’ve never used or won’t use again, but might have a few that I would). Can I make a new home for what I’d keep, donate the majority and THEN put my new supplies in that space? Do I treat that drawer like you all did Cara’s floor? 1) trash 2) donate 3) put where I’d look for it first (which would be with my other dies) and now I have a new place for journal supplies. Please tell me this is all sinking in?!? 😂😂😂
Great video! It seems like you need to work on your confidence and self-esteem ❤ I think that’s probably what your core issue is. Thanks for sharing your space and vulnerability!
I wonder if other crafters have the same issue where we gather items for a specific project, but the collection of pending projects grows and there is not a home for them which creates clutter. Does this mean we should put the items in their proper home until we are ready to start the particular project? Should I be posting this question be posted on Dana’s channel?
I appreciate your vulnerability in doing this on video. Some of it was hard! and it's hard to realize that you don't know where you would look for something.
I dont have as big of a space so i dont have anywhere near the amount of fun stuff-but-i did do the one hour better cuz it was bad😂 Idk how to organize things well yet tho
What a great video - and I also watched the video over on Dana’s channel to see the whole process! I found one statement Dana said at the beginning a treasure: “ … one of the keys to crafting spaces is having room to work..” YES! 🙌 With all our collecting, sometimes that key concept becomes lost. I bounced over from your session with Dana and I knew exactly what vintage ephemera was! AWESOME to see this, Cara! 🙂
Yes! I love ephemera and vintage ephemera especially. I once threw out some ephemera and still regret it. I just needed to organize them.
Vintage ephemera? Now I'm even more motivated to watch this episode!🤤

I just finished watching your video with Dana. I was going through all the feels you because I know it well with my own boxes of craft stuff.

The BEST way to clear a craft room of all the gathered things is to make a whole bunch of stuff with them.
I loved how Dana explored how you felt about it and wanted to make sure your fears about decluttering were allayed.
