    I know that these videos are old now, but I have to write and tell you that, even as a decades long owner of the same Shovelhead, 1977 FLH, I am riveted to the computer watching you discover and work through all of this. Things like removing the front end, removing the primary...we just don't do these things but maybe once per decade. Watching you is like watching our favorite mystery theatre show!! There is no one on youtube who is tackling these jobs like you are. Believe me when I say that there is a world of people out here that can't take their eyes off of your wrenching sir!! I only wish that I were sitting beside you in that garage!!

      Thanks Tony, you are very kind, the next time I am working on the old Shovel, I will know that you are sitting beds me in the garage at least in spirit!

    VERYMUCH LIKE YOUR VIDEOS. As someone that likes to do their own work, I appreciate you working thru this shovelhead for the first time and figuring it out as you go like we would do. I especially like how you explain it. I pray your able to do this many more years.

    Hi, I went looking on fleabay for the mainshaft sprocket nut socket that you got for very good money but could not find one. any chance of the name of the seller please. I have a 75 FXE that I rebuilt the gearbox and clutch on and I made my socket for that but if I can get a proper one for that money I will pick one up. I live in Ireland by the way and don't have a Harley dealer close by so i get all my bits from W&W cycles in Germany, no import duty or taxes, and a fantastic service. Thanks for the great videos, very enjoyable.

      Hi Ray, the seller was Bestvehiclepark but I just checked and they are not listing them at the moment, probably stuck in a container somewhere like so much stuff at the moment. Glad you like the videos and thanks for watching !

    Good refresher. Haven't been inside a shovel since about 84...restoring an 82 FLH to road worthy right now. Visiting Stroud in the next year or two from Cdn... hopefully get a ride in on a rental. Cheers

    It astonishes me that a day later I'm the only person who's left a comment. Well I found it really interesting. Perhaps there was some stupid football match that distracted people. I don't know. Anyhoo. Sod 'em. Well done, Mark. 10/10!

    I do believe, the purchase of the tools actually did aid in the work performed, Interested in those little brass pieces or rivets and what you think was the cause of the failure, Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your vacation, Will eagerly await your return to the garage and the many winter projects. Salud!

    I like how the screws are just placed on the ground to kick around, and the screwdriver literally thrown away after use.

    Is there any difference between the Primary of the 1969 WLH Shovel and your one? As I have a worn inner primary bearing. Thanks

    • @oldnutsgarage
      @oldnutsgarage  2 года назад

      This is my first Harley so I do not know much about them but a quick check online seems to suggest that the bearing changed in 1970 on bikes. That date could mean model year of course so a 69 might have the later one but my 73 also has stuff from the previous year on it, that according to the parts book it should not have, take a look at the throwout bearing video. Sorry I cannot be of any help, thanks for watching!

    Love the videos and really helps with my shovelhead. My shovelhead has a springer front end on and I’m looking for tips on how to service and how much movement it should have in perfect working condition. Any tips on this ?

      Hi Wes, I am afraid I have no idea. This Shovel is my first Harley so it all a voyage of discovery for me. I don't even know who to suggest that might be used to springers. Sorry !

    It astounds me how cheap these bits are. An old American bike is cheaper to fix than a British one. How does that make sense?

      I was pleasantly surprised too Bill given that they all have to come across the Atlantic .

    It all looks very beefy and built to last, doesn't it. The rivet issue is annoying but I'm now eager to see the next edition. Good stuff!

    Oh be careful tightening up the clutch and sprocket nut as there’s a fine tread nut on the side of the main shaft that likes to give way

      Will do Michael, all tips gratefully received as it is all new to me.

  • @tatankacleary

    Your clutch pushrod should have a oil slinger on it on the kicker side with a disk needle bearing on it and shouldn’t come out that way
    And you can get the rivets just make sure the done right as the previous owner hasn’t
    Your doing great …

    • @oldnutsgarage
      @oldnutsgarage  3 года назад

      That is a bit of a worry, I will have to look at the parts book when I get back, I hope I do not end up having to strip the gearbox.

    • @tatankacleary
      @tatankacleary 3 года назад

      @@oldnutsgarage ahhh there easy …. Enjoy the rest of your trip you lucky basket lol … if it was work before it should be ok just take off the kicker cover before running it … I done away with my 3 finger clutch and installed an early evo clutch with very little hassle evo 4 speed main shaft
