Love that people in the background in a GUITAR SHOP are oblivious to the fact that one of the greatest ever is playing right next to them.

They must have been told to “act natural”. Or they think Joe must just work there.

It’s Los Angeles. We’ve seen bigger ‘stars’ before.
I once pulled into the Hollywood Guitar Center as Joe was arriving and parking his mammoth Ford Fairlane convertible. I was aware of him, and it was a ‘cute moment,’ given how much people obsess over him on TGP, but come on-what would you expect to happen? Nothing to get giddy about.

I used to go in music stores on 48th street in NYC back in the 80’s like Manny’s, Sam Ash……. We used to catch some cool well known players in there. Sadly those iconic stores are all gone now. No place in the east except The House of Guitars in Rochester NY. I’ve been going there since I was a senior in high school. Joe stops in there quite a bit too. Twice I have just missed him by an hour or two. He buys every decent tweed Fender amp they get in. I think the store manager Curt keeps them set aside for Joe. I missed Joe at Rumble Seat in Ithaca NY when they had a store right next to the state theater back in 2011. He was playing the State that night so my wife and I swung by Rumble Seat to check out some guitars. They informed me Joe had just left.

Norm: “Joe Bonamassa is the best of the best”, I remember when A New Day Yesterday first came out and me and a bunch of friends put it on, and it was like a covers album of all our heroes, which split the room. The arguments of whether it was right or wrong went on for weeks. I remember saying “He’s been brought up on his Dad’s records”. It was then that I knew he was one of us, and that he was just the one of us in the room that could play like that. I’ve never felt differently, and I’ve never felt such a kindred spirit to any other player. What I want to say is, as I was on Joe’s side in 2000, would he possibly consider swapping the Nocaster for my 2005 CS ’51 Nocaster as a thank you? Haha. Love you guys. Feels like family.

    Ok ... On the adjacent-warehouse-guitar-swap-proposition:
When I was 12, about a year before that guitar was made, my father took me to New York for a day and we toured the vault at the New York Federal Reserve Bank where his fraternity brother just happened to be the Director. At that time, the vault held small stores of solid gold bars from the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy, South Africa and other countries. These deposits were housed in separate "cells" arranged around the perimeter of a central room of the larger vault. The vault and the "cells" were built in the nineteenth century for this express purpose (by the commercial bank that owned the property at that time). The Vault was constructed of Bricks and each cell had a door made of steel bars, just like a jail cell. Pallet Loads of gold bars were stored in each cell and in the central room of the vault. In those days, currencies around the world were still on the Gold Standard meaning that if commercial entities in Great Britain made purchases in the United States, the Government of Britain would facilitate the transfer of funds by moving gold bars from their cell to the central room where the store of US Gold was kept. The process was a little more complicated than that, involving a lot of math to determine what the actual balance of payments and rates of exchange were, etc, but essentially, International Finance was conducted by having a forty-something year old black guy load a few of the Queen's gold bars onto a heavy duty wooden platform truck and wheel it into the central room where he would stack it on top of a pile of US Gold.
As part of the tour, I got to sit on top of a pallet of US Gold about 4ft x 4ft x 3ft and they let me hold a bar in my hands to feel the weight. Then we went to the RBB&B Circus at Madison Square Garden.
Anyway, Norm and Joe may be the last exemplars of this ancient method of value transfer. Only in this case we might conjecture that Michael Lemmo is the Mighty Grand Shlepper of Value!

Baloney. First of all the first big Blues Revival was 40 years ago in the 80s with guys like Stevie Ray (who would destroy Bonermasa). the Blasters and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. As far as the original 60s guitar heroes if there was no Clapton, Page, Hendrix and their sources like Buddy Guy (who could also destroy little Joe),T Bone Walker etc young pup Joe would have nothing to play!! Joe hasn't raised any bar. He plays too many notes without thought. See Peter Green for comparison. Joe is like the new age digital version of the Blues - all the correct clichés but less feel and heart. Trower's 1st 3 LPs were fantastic and nobody could sing better than Bass Jimmy Dewar but his abject rip of Hendrix style sort of put him a level below innovator same as Joe. Today you want innovation you gotta go see Matteo or Tosin. 🎸
