I begin by obliterating an entire module with Long Sword, then I take a moment to praise my own skill as only the truly talented could use such a useless and weak weapon to this level of efficiency. Then, as i enter the next module, a (very very severely overpowered) landmine Rogue runs out from the shadows. He ambushes me for an unholy 1/11th of my health bar, (thank goodness the dev team at AluminiumFork nerfed this insanely powerful class twice in 2 days!) before I put him down with 2 swings to the head (it should have only taken 1 swing... jeez, my class is so weak and requires so much skill). Good thing I was the better player. And, while looting my riches from this dirty Rogue abuser, from across the room I spot it. A dreaded Warlock! "Good Golly!" I say to myself. I pull out my trusty bow, the main weapon of any melee tank, and lay into this heinous ranged character. Once he gets close enough, I give chase to this unholy demon. Unfortunately, he is 0.5% faster than I am and hits me with a vile Curse. It actually lowered my health bar! Do the devs not even play their game!? Do they not understand Fighter is the weakest class!? I choose to abandon my infallible Heavy Plate armor, but then he turns into a ghost right when my blade would reach him. What can I possibly do!? My instincts tell me to make a hasty retreat. After all, that 1/9th of an HP bar that I lost should be looked after post haste. But I turn away my better judgement and continue the chase...... to which I am justly rewarded!
Funnily enough when I started playing after the Steam release I found your channel and your guide where you basically said "Sorry landmine is meta, guess you can try mosquito" and it motivated me to try to prove you wrong and I can say now with confidence that I was wrong, I play fighter mostly now.
They keep slaughtering rogue for no good reason. Fighter doesn't have the same fun feel of sneaky boy burst damage though. Should ranger be my new rogue until they decide to let rogue be viable??
Just excessively over tune every class at this point. Give us 6 perk slots, and combine some perks for every class. I'd rather that than randomized heavy handed patches with no rhyme or reason dumpstering some classes while buffing already well performing classes. They should also just let us assign our own stat points with soft caps. No more Rogue and Ranger at negative strength levels to start. This also eliminates cosmetics as potential PTW & FOMO. THEN we could actually play the game with our classes the way they were meant to be fully fleshed out like barb can always break doors and rogue can always pick locks / see traps etc. as long as you meet the stat requirements so you can't just AGI dump all your points.
Finally, the one thing that was missing in my understanding of rogue. After watching this guide, my gameplay improved greatly and I'm stomping lobbies. Thanks, Repoze!
allready spread the word of rogue being way too bad in the playtest days - started on rogue and switched the class next test - difference of night and day, suddenly the game became kinda easy, i remember shreading rogues left and right on cleric and war mauling them in 2 hits 99% of the time like nothing, even most NPC´s were harder to fight, still guys spamming "skill issue, just skill issue" - you either went on very good gear and profit of the scaling just killing peeps with insane burst or you were just underwhelmingly bad, i advocated for the changes long ago, giving rogue the possibility to wear some crossbow (this was before hand crossbow was added, which is the worst ranged weapon btw. , in these times survival bow was considered the weakest and still would be much better on rogue) , all the time people spammed me, saying i just want to be able to kill everyone, when i was oneshotted by some plate gear fighter running around with a normal crossbow that i ambushed from behind, just turning around and hitting me in the chest, i totally dropped the class, what a joke! Better poison /range options are needed long time ago, ambush/hide meta sucks and is way too costly, having to invest half your gold/space into throwables is also just cringe and not fun, even the smoke bomb got nerfed because some cringe spammers like Toddfather who dont understand, that sprint is like smoke bombing the whole lobby relativly to your speed, sprint is a rogue ability if you ask me, so you are bound to kill low health/low pdr targets and invest in insane damage or you are done - worst pve clear on top, worst recover on default if you dont invest a lot of coins, its just ridculious
I love the idea of trickster rogue, feels so good. Honestly, just get rid of ambush like you said, and give some cool acrobatic and weapon damage perks instead.
it's actually impressive how uncreative they are at ironmace studios. there are a million different ways to balance classes and yet the only trick they have figured out so far is "reduce x number by z" - watching this gem of a game slowly die due to lack of creativity is such a tragedy
Almost every single value in a table containing spell/skill data can be dumbed down to reduce x by z regardless of how it actually affects the performance of an ability. This is such an odd take especially after recent changes to CoP which affected how you use the spell to begin with. Whether you agree with Ironmace balancing or not your point is just bad.
@@aranreth1458 thats such a midwit way of looking at this problem and I'm guessing you're new to this game. sure they nailed it with the CoP change but that's what, 1/1000 changes? how about after you use sprint you get a debuff slowing your movement, what if rage makes you drop your weapon if you don't hit with it, what if rogues could brew poisons from the herbs found on the map, what if wizards could put down runes like huntertraps with different effects, what if warlocks could turn skeletons into one grade higher, etc, etc, etc. just off the top of my head. like I said, whether you understand my point or not, there are a million different ways of solving balancing issues that isn't "reduced sprint duration by 3 seconds"
@@straxx Bear with me as a person with midwit intellect I need to get a solid grasp on your logic. Your solution is to add more numbers to the game? Sprint should increase movement speed by x and then reduce it by z. Rage should increase stats and movement speed by x and then reduce the number of weapons in your hands to 0. Rogues should now spend hours grinding for x materials instead of using a pre-existing perk. Wizards should now carry x extra items in their bags (or fill up a new spell slot/ skill) on top of 5 campfires they already do. Warlocks should increase the tier of mobs by x (clearly no mention of being able to control them so just for shits and giggles ig). The only part I agree with is that there are other ways to solve balance than reduce sprint duration by 3. But your "solutions" are doing the exact same thing you accuse Ironmace of. Shifting numbers.

Then I gave some random examples so you can catch up, none of which are "shifting numbers" unless you start playing semantics, sure you can "dumb it down" but how about we try and elevate the conversation instead. PS, if you can't see how being able to turn a mob into a nightmare version can be useful in PVP other than shits and giggles, then maybe you shouldn't be out here arguing about balance lol.
the only reason why i started playing this game is because of you, It made me want to play rogue. Ever since starting ive been getting slammed by every other class.
@Repoze im so glad that you highlight that fighter is busted and all the fighter mains have to do is complain that they can’t catch people with their long sword or rondel and its wraps for that class. But yet again fighter flies under the radar and get several buff imo. Idk man idk
The balancing in this game is a joke, I swear all the devs think about is larping and adding the dumbest and worst content (multiclassing, arena with sub bosses) they can think of
might be time to separate the balance between solo duo and trio not only for classes but also mob density and bossing. doesn't seem possible to balance it all together.
it's not possible just because IronMace devs are fucking braindead. Balancing around trios is just stupid. Absolute asinine game design. Balance should always have been solos first and everything else POTENTIALLY later. It's not like trios/duos/solo are completely different games - the only thing changes is the amount of players are fighting. The place where balancing issues arise is how different COMBINATIONS of classes coordinate and harmonize together - statistically, from 100 matchups of Wizard/Fighter/Ranger vs Warlock/Cleric/Bard, you could see (just as an example) Warlock having the most impact/winrate/efficacy compared to other classes. YET, as soon as you start rearranging the matchups you could get a completely different class being the superior one. Fundamentally every single class should be in some way or form equally effective against all others. But because shit is build specific and some classes are just hard countered (every class hard counters rogue) balancing is impossible because it's literally made to be unbalanced.
I really don't want them gutting ivis entirely just bc ambushing is solos makes W keyers mald. Same reason invis pots got cooked, but just for 3 classes, for no reason. They just need to remove weapon mastery off fighter. Give them access to maces/morningstars, and allow daggers with the slayer perk. Removes dagger with agi plate fighters, removes the excesive ranged options they have. Fighters out here with access to all bows and range while walking around with 15 base strength is crazy tech. Rangers could only dream of this.
Stg sdf types patch notes out on a typewriter like a mad man and when he’s done he slides the paper under the door for the rest of the team to push out without play testing.
Not only does every class do everything better than rogue, but you have low health, low damage, dagger have no range(given), and no hit slow are inaccurate, low damage, so u cant burst and you cant even chase even tho youre the "fastest class", you cant initiate without full committing, you cant "weave" because so many weapons have phatom range and A GIANT hitslow (which last longer on you). Not to mention the class cant even do much in the first place (warlock has like 4 different playstyles). Cant even break boxes. They gut rogue like 4 or 5 times now.
@@specializededucation I'm a rogue main, 20 gold is nothing. A stack of bandages or potions is same price. You can turn iron ore/ingots into pickaxes. I'd rather complain that rogue can't break blocks of ice, instead of being annoyed about using a pickaxe to break boxes.
I do agree fighter is ouvertuned, but in regards to rogue, I think its OK to have certain classes that are less "good" for pvp. I mean rogue with crossbows.. we have to be carefull because rogue can double jump, as the highest base agility in the game and move speed is bullshit OP important in the game right now. Rogue also can silence players and go invisible. The trowing rogue build can hardcounter certain classes/build with ease and it is the most unfair/frustrating way to die. I think rogues utility is what makes this class awsome for solo or cheese pve/looting. We must not forget that that is an important and big part of the game too in witch rogue exels at.
I didnt like the first 2 idea's for a change to the class but i really agree that the class needs a rework, instead of bring stealthy mabye it can be an acrobatic class that gets passive damage after using a skill or dodging, somethings like that
Being able to run multiple windlas and reg crossbows is pretty lame. Like people just triple swapping crossbows and one tapping me in multiple games the last two days
I just really want them to give Rogue skills that support active playstyles like Double Jump/Tumble. Give us Survival Bow Mastery or something Ironmace…
I want a new skill called shadow strike, where we can use in stealth and get a shadow backstab on an enemy with a range to it, like World of warcraft. Smoke bombs/caltrops reset on campfires... but sdf wont say a damn word of anything like that is coming or planned. They gonna have to knock my shoes off with a talent tree build, or im prolly gonna stop and move on, its been a good ride.
warlocks are starting to fall in the same hole. TM at this point requires 3 perks to function, and even then casting a CoP nets like 5-10hp, at which point why even bother. Replace the spell wheel of curses with second wind and u get like 5 curses worth of heals minus the 30hp it would cost to cast those curses to begin with and the mobs u'd need and time just to cast and heal the equivalent amount to press a button and 3 less perk slots. The worst part is, instead of increasing the cost of spells on TM, they increased the base cost of spells, nerfing caster warlock together with TM, making the other half (prob the healthier half) of warlock way worse as well. At this point warlock is just a longsword enjoyer with low power qol perks and utility spells like spell predation, curse of weakness, and flame walk. We don't even get a rondel dagger anymore.
wdy think of a buff to stealth where instead of 10 steps it is like 15-20? or maybe no noise from footsteps in hide while crouching? this way the hide playstyle lets us reposition more or engage in more creative ways then just hiding and walking at them just to get blasted when stealth breaks cause they are too far away (they can leave 8 seconds on hide though so you can't run around for ever) -- I say this cause I think hide is the differentiating factor that makes rogue a rogue (otherwise just play fighter like you are in the vid haha) so I think it should be buffed so it makes the class stand out more
Even if they give more steps you would need to use hide mastery because hide doesn't last enough for all the steps They should make you able to move on hide without needing a perk. There's no point in running hide without perks anyways
The balance in this game just doesn't feel right for a long time yet. Until then, the game is simply frustrating for casual gamers. Not everyone has the time and leisure to dig into every meta. Still, it's always fun to watch. Keep it up Repoze, the big patch will come one day.
Came to this conclusion a few days back before the throwables nerf. Even playing suboptimal rondel/stiletto slayer feels 5x better than rogue. That being said, the biggest reason not to play rogue is that rogue gameplay hasn't been fun in a long time. The fights themselves are just not that engaging or interesting compared to other classes.
After this balance change i was just left wondering whats the point of rouge as a class. One of the worse ranger damge, getting out classed by a fighter with a crossbow. One of the worse close combat damge, getting out damged by a fighter with randel. And also out classed in ambushing by ranger traps or just fighter with sprint. SO to rouge has worse ranger over fighter worse close comabt damge worse ambush worse armor worse stats like bro when dose this game get ballance patch that isnt oh this class is popular time to gut it. i hated warlock but the stuff they did to warlock is just too far

Wizard got collateral damage meanwhile it was not even playable at low gear already and its not sliglty as bad as the rogue state, they need to make class change by threshold and kinda floor stat rather than changing base or end scaling its so dumb to have all the tool and just chope a whole class by changing scaling value formula when u can literraly control the scaling curve
The amount of times I have to hit a fighter to kill him is insane. Poison wep isn’t going to do fucking anything without true and it’s still .5 scaling right? MR buff on fighter and barb gear is a nerf to poison rogues. It does no fucking damage as is
Aint it funny how rogues strengths are "being fast and having high interaction speed." so I made a build with 180% interaction speed and max 330 MS as rogue and still got ran down by a barb... gee...

Me and my friend are both fighter mains and we were expecting a nerf to fighter. We couldn't believe that they buffed sprint AND the armors.
Just excessively over tune every class at this point. Give us 6 perk slots, and combine some perks for every class. I'd rather that than randomized heavy handed patches with no rhyme or reason dumpstering some classes while buffing already well performing classes. They should also just let us assign our own stat points with soft caps. No more Rogue and Ranger at negative strength levels to start. This also eliminates cosmetics as potential PTW & FOMO. THEN we could actually play the game with our classes the way they were meant to be fully fleshed out like barb can always break doors and rogue can always pick locks / see traps etc. as long as you meet the stat requirements so you can't just AGI dump all your points.

allready spread the word of rogue being way too bad in the playtest days - started on rogue and switched the class next test - difference of night and day, suddenly the game became kinda easy, i remember shreading rogues left and right on cleric and war mauling them in 2 hits 99% of the time like nothing, even most NPC´s were harder to fight, still guys spamming "skill issue, just skill issue" - you either went on very good gear and profit of the scaling just killing peeps with insane burst or you were just underwhelmingly bad, i advocated for the changes long ago, giving rogue the possibility to wear some crossbow (this was before hand crossbow was added, which is the worst ranged weapon btw. , in these times survival bow was considered the weakest and still would be much better on rogue) , all the time people spammed me, saying i just want to be able to kill everyone, when i was oneshotted by some plate gear fighter running around with a normal crossbow that i ambushed from behind, just turning around and hitting me in the chest, i totally dropped the class, what a joke! Better poison /range options are needed long time ago, ambush/hide meta sucks and is way too costly, having to invest half your gold/space into throwables is also just cringe and not fun, even the smoke bomb got nerfed because some cringe spammers like Toddfather who dont understand, that sprint is like smoke bombing the whole lobby relativly to your speed, sprint is a rogue ability if you ask me, so you are bound to kill low health/low pdr targets and invest in insane damage or you are done - worst pve clear on top, worst recover on default if you dont invest a lot of coins, its just ridculious

it's actually impressive how uncreative they are at ironmace studios. there are a million different ways to balance classes and yet the only trick they have figured out so far is "reduce x number by z" - watching this gem of a game slowly die due to lack of creativity is such a tragedy
Almost every single value in a table containing spell/skill data can be dumbed down to reduce x by z regardless of how it actually affects the performance of an ability.
This is such an odd take especially after recent changes to CoP which affected how you use the spell to begin with.
Whether you agree with Ironmace balancing or not your point is just bad.

Your solution is to add more numbers to the game?
Sprint should increase movement speed by x and then reduce it by z.
Rage should increase stats and movement speed by x and then reduce the number of weapons in your hands to 0.
Rogues should now spend hours grinding for x materials instead of using a pre-existing perk.
Wizards should now carry x extra items in their bags (or fill up a new spell slot/ skill) on top of 5 campfires they already do.
Warlocks should increase the tier of mobs by x (clearly no mention of being able to control them so just for shits and giggles ig).
The only part I agree with is that there are other ways to solve balance than reduce sprint duration by 3.
But your "solutions" are doing the exact same thing you accuse Ironmace of.

Oh and sprint mechanic was changed from flat % to diminishing 3 stack momentum mechanic.

it's not possible just because IronMace devs are fucking braindead. Balancing around trios is just stupid. Absolute asinine game design. Balance should always have been solos first and everything else POTENTIALLY later.
It's not like trios/duos/solo are completely different games - the only thing changes is the amount of players are fighting. The place where balancing issues arise is how different COMBINATIONS of classes coordinate and harmonize together - statistically, from 100 matchups of Wizard/Fighter/Ranger vs Warlock/Cleric/Bard, you could see (just as an example) Warlock having the most impact/winrate/efficacy compared to other classes. YET, as soon as you start rearranging the matchups you could get a completely different class being the superior one.
Fundamentally every single class should be in some way or form equally effective against all others. But because shit is build specific and some classes are just hard countered (every class hard counters rogue) balancing is impossible because it's literally made to be unbalanced.
I really don't want them gutting ivis entirely just bc ambushing is solos makes W keyers mald. Same reason invis pots got cooked, but just for 3 classes, for no reason.
They just need to remove weapon mastery off fighter. Give them access to maces/morningstars, and allow daggers with the slayer perk.
Removes dagger with agi plate fighters, removes the excesive ranged options they have. Fighters out here with access to all bows and range while walking around with 15 base strength is crazy tech. Rangers could only dream of this.
Stg sdf types patch notes out on a typewriter like a mad man and when he’s done he slides the paper under the door for the rest of the team to push out without play testing.
Not only does every class do everything better than rogue, but you have low health, low damage, dagger have no range(given), and no hit slow are inaccurate, low damage, so u cant burst and you cant even chase even tho youre the "fastest class", you cant initiate without full committing, you cant "weave" because so many weapons have phatom range and A GIANT hitslow (which last longer on you). Not to mention the class cant even do much in the first place (warlock has like 4 different playstyles). Cant even break boxes. They gut rogue like 4 or 5 times now.

@@specializededucation I'm a rogue main, 20 gold is nothing. A stack of bandages or potions is same price. You can turn iron ore/ingots into pickaxes. I'd rather complain that rogue can't break blocks of ice, instead of being annoyed about using a pickaxe to break boxes.
I do agree fighter is ouvertuned, but in regards to rogue, I think its OK to have certain classes that are less "good" for pvp. I mean rogue with crossbows.. we have to be carefull because rogue can double jump, as the highest base agility in the game and move speed is bullshit OP important in the game right now. Rogue also can silence players and go invisible.
The trowing rogue build can hardcounter certain classes/build with ease and it is the most unfair/frustrating way to die. I think rogues utility is what makes this class awsome for solo or cheese pve/looting. We must not forget that that is an important and big part of the game too in witch rogue exels at.

7:07 a Ranger not only gets beat at range but also gets chased down while being hit by ranged damage and can't even escape.

I want a new skill called shadow strike, where we can use in stealth and get a shadow backstab on an enemy with a range to it, like World of warcraft. Smoke bombs/caltrops reset on campfires... but sdf wont say a damn word of anything like that is coming or planned. They gonna have to knock my shoes off with a talent tree build, or im prolly gonna stop and move on, its been a good ride.

having fun on fighter, still unfortunate that rogue has to get nerfed so bad.
warlocks are starting to fall in the same hole. TM at this point requires 3 perks to function, and even then casting a CoP nets like 5-10hp, at which point why even bother. Replace the spell wheel of curses with second wind and u get like 5 curses worth of heals minus the 30hp it would cost to cast those curses to begin with and the mobs u'd need and time just to cast and heal the equivalent amount to press a button and 3 less perk slots. The worst part is, instead of increasing the cost of spells on TM, they increased the base cost of spells, nerfing caster warlock together with TM, making the other half (prob the healthier half) of warlock way worse as well. At this point warlock is just a longsword enjoyer with low power qol perks and utility spells like spell predation, curse of weakness, and flame walk. We don't even get a rondel dagger anymore.
The only way i play rogue now is landmine. hide in shadow, steal loot from EZ kill. escape. repeat.
wdy think of a buff to stealth where instead of 10 steps it is like 15-20? or maybe no noise from footsteps in hide while crouching? this way the hide playstyle lets us reposition more or engage in more creative ways then just hiding and walking at them just to get blasted when stealth breaks cause they are too far away (they can leave 8 seconds on hide though so you can't run around for ever) -- I say this cause I think hide is the differentiating factor that makes rogue a rogue (otherwise just play fighter like you are in the vid haha) so I think it should be buffed so it makes the class stand out more
Even if they give more steps you would need to use hide mastery because hide doesn't last enough for all the steps
They should make you able to move on hide without needing a perk. There's no point in running hide without perks anyways
The balance in this game just doesn't feel right for a long time yet.
Until then, the game is simply frustrating for casual gamers.
Not everyone has the time and leisure to dig into every meta.

Came to this conclusion a few days back before the throwables nerf. Even playing suboptimal rondel/stiletto slayer feels 5x better than rogue. That being said, the biggest reason not to play rogue is that rogue gameplay hasn't been fun in a long time. The fights themselves are just not that engaging or interesting compared to other classes.

Wizard got collateral damage meanwhile it was not even playable at low gear already and its not sliglty as bad as the rogue state, they need to make class change by threshold and kinda floor stat rather than changing base or end scaling its so dumb to have all the tool and just chope a whole class by changing scaling value formula when u can literraly control the scaling curve
I like tanky rogue and u still get one tapped by Druid. Made a 200hp set to get one shot by shotgun even tho I stabbed him with cut throat

game is the most balanced it’s ever been. (still has major balancing issues) give it a try again, prob will feel a lot better than last time

The amount of times I have to hit a fighter to kill him is insane. Poison wep isn’t going to do fucking anything without true and it’s still .5 scaling right? MR buff on fighter and barb gear is a nerf to poison rogues. It does no fucking damage as is
They are nerfing rogue till there are no builds left

Aint it funny how rogues strengths are "being fast and having high interaction speed." so I made a build with 180% interaction speed and max 330 MS as rogue and still got ran down by a barb... gee...
