  • After sketching this out 6 months ago, it was finally time to build a cassette tape coffee table. Made of baltic birch and walnut, this full size coffee table is scaled exactly from the tapes in the 80's we all loved. This cassette is fully functioning like a real cassette would be.

    I've seen a few other woodworkers here on YT switch to sanding stations when detailing small parts, instead of hoping their multi-horsepower routers won't chew up the parts or their hands. Look up Pask Makes, if you haven't.
    Loved the journey, ofc. Keep on growing!

    • @shadeTreeWorks
      @shadeTreeWorks  Месяц назад

      I dig Pask Makes builds! For the sanding, over time I've tried to slow myself down because it can really out of spec fast. It usually happens the moment I think, I'll just hit this one more time. Haha.
      I have a few really neat projects lined up for the next builds. I'm trying to work harder on telling the story of the build in the videos. It's a fun challenge.

    This is amazing. 100% incredible craftsmanship, through and through.
    The only thing that bothers me about this is that I feel like you missed an opportunity to make it electronically functional.
    Forgive me, as I'm a massive electronics person in addition to a DIY enthusiast, and so the first thing I thought was "Hell, you could probably find an old Reel to Reel player, use a bunch of old tape and actually spool this thing up so that it had a couple of buttons on the side that would either make it play or record? Or, IDK. Hook up an old 8-track tape or something. Slap in a bluetooth transmitter (or go for broke and mount speakers in the legs) and make this thing an actual functioning tape.
    I think with a bit more clever engineering, you could totally fit all of the stuff inside.

    • @shadeTreeWorks
      @shadeTreeWorks  Месяц назад

      I was totally on that path at first to motorize it, but man those lazy susan maybe have wood bearings and the metal just painted foil. 😆
      I could totally see threading and old reel in there! I like the way you think :)

    • @BenKDesigns
      @BenKDesigns Месяц назад

      @@shadeTreeWorks Can't wait to see the V2 video. ;) Look at videos by JamesBrunton, he does some incredible 3D printing stuff with bearings. Or hell, I could print some parts for you if needed. With some "press-fit" bearings and otherwise off-the-shelf parts, I bet you could make this thing a fully workable tape player/recorder.
      And heck, IDK what kind of friends you have, but if you knew anybody musical - this could be an *insane* analogue "loop deck".
