Hallelujah C Jam Track from My Karaoke World: • Hallelujah-Acoustic Ka...
This is a Harmonica cover of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, based off of Jeff Buckley’s arrangement. For this harmonica lesson we’re gonna play it in the common key of C, on our trusty C harmonicas, in 1st position. Here’s the harmonica tabs in C for Hallelujah:
Well I heard there was a secret chord
    5 5 6 6 6 6 -6 -6 -6
That David played and it pleased the Lord
    5 6 6 6 5 6 -6 -6 -6
But you don’t really care for music do ya
    6 -6 -6 -6 -6 -6 6 6 -5 6 6
Well it goes like this, the fourth the fifth
    5 5 6 6 6 6 -6 -6 -7
The minor fall and the major lift
    6 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 -8
    The baffled king composing hallelujah
    7 -8 -8 -8 7 8 8 8 -8 -8 7
    Hallelujah
    5 6 -6 -6
    Hallelujah
    -6 6 5 5
    Hallelujah
    5 6 -6 -6
    Hallelu-u-u-u-jah
    -6 6 5 -5 5 -4 4
You can hear me playing it like this here.
Interestingly, when the Canadian singer Leonard Cohen first released Hallelujah in 1984, it didn’t achieve commercial success. Rather it was John Cale’s 1991 cover that began to bring popularity to the song.
Cale’s cover inspired the young singer Jeff Buckley to record it in 1994, which catapulted it into the limelight. John Cale’s cover also later appeared in the movie Shrek in 2001.
Since then, many artists have covered immensely popular versions of the song.
Fun fact: Cohen spent 5 years writing this song and is reported to have had between 80 and 180 verses for it. He recounts the end of the process, sitting in a hotel room with notebook paper everywhere, banging his head on the floor.

Luke... Let me take a breath here... That was a great lesson/instruction and you played with such emotion! I had read the Leonard Cohen biography and Hallelujah took him over 5 years to write and he had over 150 versions and variations. You did him justice with your rendition! I have to ask, can you provide:Tower of Song and or Closing Time, to Leonard's harmonica tabs ? Thank you and Bless you! Slick

    Which harmonica are you using???
I am new and I am having hard time trying to find a good right harmonica. I like “Trochiu” harmonicas. I purchased melody maker C but didn’t sound clear.
For Trochiu harmonica is type G with Pop a good harmonica?
I think Type C is too high tone for Church.

    • @Harmonicacom
      @Harmonicacom  24 дня назад

I say in the video what key I'm using.
Yeah Melody Maker C is very high that like an F harmonica.
You want pop tuning, not solo (if you want it to be like a standard diatonic harmonica.)
But I think you'd like a G Melody Maker? That's comprable to the C harp I'm using here.

Yes, I believe the C is a crossover, customized by Joe Spiers with a Todd Parrott comb and Rocket cover plates. The Low C in this video is a Rocket LOW with the blue comb. But I prefer for the Low C a Lee Oskar which is also cheaper (I couldn't find mine when I shot the vid which. is why I used the Rocket LOW) or the Thunderbird (which is what Hohner calls low-tuned Crossovers - and they're PRICEY. 😳💰) I do have a Low C Thunderbird, but I had Boaz Kim Parrott-tune it for me (lower the -7 a half-step) so I couldn't use it for this song. I also have a Low D Thunderbird. They're AMAZING for sure. Like all Crossovers, they're very bright, so for the low tunings I find that they really cut thru the mix nicely.

Luke... great lesson my man! LOVE the B.B. King and the Albert King posters on the back wall. Have you ever been to Clarksdale, Mississippi?
If you have not, be sure to check out Hopson Plantation and Ground Zero. Two places you do not want to miss!
Been playing Hallelujah for years now and a couple little add-ons that I give it are:
At the end of the first verses (00:20) I add on a little triplet with: -5 4 -4
Then, at the end of the chorus (04:24) I add on with: 7 -7 -6 6. (The "First Noel Walkdown.")
Once again... thank you for all you do!

I never leave comments, but I feel compelled to thank you for this lesson because it helped me bend the 6th hole for the first time! I've been trying to learn to bend for a few weeks and had some success with the other holes, but the sixth seemed impossible for some reason. However, your "kyuh" made it happen immediately. Imagine my surprise! It's made my week. Almost feels like cheating lol. And now that I've learned, I'm finding it easier to bend the other holes more quickly and naturally. I'm so excited 🥳🎶
Another thing I appreciate is that you advise using X and Y vocalizations and specify which syllables they should be applied to. I think it makes a tremendous difference because many RUclips videos simply tell you which holes to draw or blow, and everything sounds so soulless when I, as a beginner, replicate it.
So yeah, thank you SO much, Luke! Keep the good work :)

Over the last time I'm searching a tuning wich can acheave neghboring pentatonic scales of circle of fifth. I drilled few of my harmonicas reeds. First I grinded 3 blow whole step up to achieve paralel scale to main harmonica scale on low octave without bending and play a chord in that scale. That is a Paddy richter tune. Second I grinded a 5 draw reed to get a major scale on a middle octave wich mostly used in rock\pop songs. Now I figured it's a melody maker tune)
Not sure I'm on a right way, but now I can use 2 harmonicas to jam in 80% of simple pop
    ock songs.
