I’ve been having tendon pain with my fretting hand, maybe due to me putting to much pressure on my thumb.
Your tip regarding countering the body with the neck was my light bulb moment. Like you said you don’t really have to put that much pressure on your thumb.
That for me instantly made my fretting hand relax.
    Thanks a lot.

Excellent video. Good to see someone spreading good advice for a change. There’s a lot of misinformation out there on bass techniques…

I use a song called Let me take you there by the Staple singers to work out my pinky . It's easy to learn , sounds great and really works that little pinky . I will run through it a few times a week . If you have a weak pinky you feel it at first . I also have fallen prey to trying to centering my thumb all the time like a friggin contortionist .

That's great! I'll use that in a future video.

@@HowToBass I always get the name wrong because in my head it is "the pinky song" The title is "I'll take you there" for proper reference.

Excellent! A lot of the techniques addressed in this lesson are taught incorrectly (or not taught at all) by other instructors... like thumb position, the importance of relaxing, looking ahead, etc. This post will help beginners can save a lot of time (and pain) and intermediates correct some things that might've been holding them back.

this was super big help! i already knew some of the tips here but the thumb position one and the counterbalance were game changers, i appreciate this video a lot ! for someone who can only afford being self-taught and i don't have much people to ask about either if i'm fretting correctly, i finally resolved the issue where my tendon would hurt a lot even if i wasn't exerting much effort on pressing down the frets. most people do talk about the thumb being placed at certain positions but i guess anywhere is fine as long as you're getting the technical parts done and you're comfortable :>

Good stuff. My pinky finger is non existent lol. T-Rex fingers suck.

Great video! I've been trying to learn how to keep all my fingers down (rather than just one) but it causes so much extra strain in my fretting hand. Would love some extra advice on this!
