    This is the first time I’ve heard Derrick speak in a long time
    You can tell he’s really grown a lot as a person. Still maintains his idealistic core, but is much more pragmatic, realistic, and gentle in going about it
    You can tell he’s much more at peace with himself and the world despite being passionate to improve things

    Wow Derrick is super grounded and balanced. It’s refreshing to hear a freedom maximalist not shoving all or nothing values down your throat as if they’ve had that level of conviction since Day 1, and rather recognising that it’s not necessarily that easy for every individual to pursue those ideals due to their particular circumstances. Also like that he points out not all MSM is lies and not all independent media is truth. It’s important to triangulate between different sources to arrive at some measure of truth

    Bigger blocks not only threatens decentralisation but when block space is scarce, it's more expensive which incentives mining through higher fees which makes the network more secure.

    The whole point is that the small blocks keep the base layer from being controlled by governments or large corporations. This is essential in keeping bitcoin alive and people can then have discussions/free market demand to decide the/multiple 2nd layers. Anyone in a first world country can absolutely run a node on an old computer. That’s plenty of decentralization but I’m happy to take more.

    • @Cronus6
      @Cronus6 23 дня назад

      This is absolutely correct. And for goodness sake people, RUN A NODE!

    • @user-fx5dy7oq7x
      @user-fx5dy7oq7x 23 дня назад

      How does a small block size increase decentralization if people are forced into using custodial solutions and side chains?
      Running a node does nothing for the decentralization of the network. Satoshi himself said that full nodes would be run by big servers and transactions would be simply validated by SPV.
      Also, if small blocks=decentralization why not make the blocks half the size they are now? It would only require a soft fork.
      You're just parroting propaganda bs.

    If someone fell for authoritarian covid measures so quickly, what makes you think they wouldn't slip on the next authoritarian movement? Folks who went all in on covid are primed for the next crisis and I'm skeptical that they learned a lesson.

    • @Mac-ku3xu
      @Mac-ku3xu 22 дня назад

      Agreed. But let's be optimistic. Peter, for example, fell for covid and wanted the govt to lock us up - I feel he may just have learned since then.

    So how are small blocks better for decentralization if it forces people to use custodial solutions or centralized side chains such as Liquid?
    The argument that anyone can run a node is ridiculous. How much longer is the block size going to be limited for? 10, 20, 50 years? This limit is from 2017 (with segwit). I'm sure a block size increase in 2024 would be acceptable.
    Meanwhile people in developing nations not only don't run a node but also can't make a Bitcoin transaction because of the fees.
    This whole argument is completely dishonest. It seems more like a way to prevent the cult backslash or loosing sponsors if you say the contrary.

    • @Cronus6
      @Cronus6 23 дня назад +2

      A *proper* increase requires a hard fork, so no. And nodes are the backbone of the network. The idea that anyone, independent of hardware restrictions, can run a node, is fundamental to the network.
      When you increase block size, you diminish that. So it's a non starter.

    • @user-fx5dy7oq7x
      @user-fx5dy7oq7x 23 дня назад

      If a small block size is desirable, why not cut the current limit in half? It would only require a soft fork to do that. Wouldn't that increase centralization according to you?
      Answer me this: where does the 1mb limit (+segwit) come from? Why not 300kb? Or 1.5mb? Or 6mb? Do you realize this is just an arbitrary number?
      But really, have you put any thought on this question yourself or do you just parrot the propaganda?

    • @dominatorbooze8381
      @dominatorbooze8381 19 дней назад

      I'm a bitcoin maxi and peters argument that smaller blocks means is essential for decentralisation didn't make sense to me on face value. Unless he means that people's influence would continue after the block increase? Larger block size in itself isn't impacted by centralisation from what I can see, how you get there maybe so.
