Long time the second best sold album in the world after "Thriller". Anyway, this might have been the biggest band in the world in that time slot (end seventies early eighties).
Original Fleetwood Mac when Peter Green (RIP) reigned supreme. Great tunes Albatross, Man of the World, Green Manalishi etc. More Blusey too. Take a listen 😮
@davidmalarkey1302. Wasn't the name of Christine McVie's song "Over My Head"? I really liked her beautiful voice; always thought she deserved more of a role in the group.
I'll never forget a time in 1985, and I was on a bus traveling from London to Greece. The tickets were cheap, but it started with 24 hours of hell. The driver was Greek and played Greek folk music nonstop! Finally my fellow riders rebelled. I think only 10 people spoke English, but everyone voted from the collection of cassettes on board. Rumours won in a landslide and a bus full of people from all over the world, sang every lyric of every song. It blew my mind and definitely improved the mood on the bus. Great memories😂
This song is basically the crash and burn of a relationship played out in a song. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham had a romantic relationship that crashed at the time this album was being recorded. You have to watch the live performance because you can feel/see all their emotions as they sing back and forth to each other.
"Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham had a romantic relationship that crashed at the time this album was being recorded." Bret: "Rumors" Murray: "No, that's all true." Sorry, that's my favorite Flight of the Concords joke.
You mentioned Vacation and there is a reason why. Lindsay Buckingham, the guitarist and male vocalist for Fleetwood Mac, did the theme song for Vacation "Holiday Road". He is phenomenal guitarist that somehow remains very underrated.
I saw Lindsey ar the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach and he did Holiday Road, complete with dog barks. Then he asked the crowd if we had more, or less respect for him after that. Classic!
Lindsey Buckingham killing it on vocals and lead guitar! And yes the live performances from this album ARE priceless. The looks between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham- they look like they want to kill each other! It is about their relationship after all.
When this album was recorded, all of the band were going through breakups and the result was one of the best albums ever. Great art comes from pain and hunger 😊
Read the back story to the song and then watch the live version. Lindsey Buckingham wrote the song about his breakup with Stevie Nicks. You can see the tension in the live version between them.
What about cassette? I grew up in the 70's and had most everything on cassette. I would use a cassette recorder to record the songs playing on the radio to make my own collections. Those were fun days. 😀
Lol, there’s a reason this reminds you of the movie Vacation. Lindsey Buckingham wrote and performed the theme song for that movie called Holiday Road. He’s singing on this track so it sounds like that one. Check it out.
Lindsey's response to Stevie's "Dreams", they were going at each other through their music. His guitar work is easily underappreciated even to this day. Great all-time album.😮
Another of Stevie's breakup songs, "Silver Springs," didn't make the album but was the B-side to this song. The live version of it looks a little tense too.
Nice to see you stepping beyond Stevie Nicks' contributions to Fleetwood Mac. Keep digging. There's Christine McVie to uncover. Then, Peter Green. Yes, please. Perhaps do both audio / music video and live performance.
This is a great performance by drummer Mick Fleetwood!! You must watch the live-feelings between the two are easy to see. I don’t know how this album was ever finished with all the emotions & tension within the group, but we are so lucky it was!!
The most memorable music festival I attended was the Miami River Music Festival in Cincinnati, 1975. On the bill were The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, New Riders of the Purple Sage, and a few more. Time ran short so Marshall Tucker & Charlie Daniels took the stage together at some point. Still have the tshirt.
Fleetwood Mac was everywhere in '77! "Go Your Own Way" was Lindsey Buckingham's reaction to his breakup with long-time girlfriend Stevie Nicks. You should also listen to Stevie Nick's reply to this song, called "Silver Springs." This song didn’t make the Rumors album, much to Stevie's annoyance, but she would insist on singing it live. Yes, react to the live version of "Go Your Own Way," but the live version of "Silver Springs" is just haunting. Stevie pretty much looks directly at Lindsey when she sings. I think the live '90s version from the "The Dance" album is the best. 😊
@@debbiekousmat6101 Dreams was the answer to GYOW and Lindsey composed music for, arranged and produced Dreams and Silver Springs. He was the Producer and Music Director for FM and The Dance. If he minded he wouldn't have bothered to make them records in the first place. Now Stevie, she minded GYOW - threatened to quit if he didn't change the lyrics and has been raging about how "mean" it is for decades.
Yes, yes, and yes. GO YOUR OWN WAY WAS LINDSEY’S breakup song andSTEVIES, SILVER SPRING. THERE IS NOT A BETTER MUSIC VIDEO THAN SILVER SPRINGS SHOWING THEIR EMOTIONS.
So glad you listened to the studio version first, this was the first single off of Rumours in 1977. Those of us in high school listened to that album all year, along with the Eagles Hotel California. Yes, what summer we had. If you do live, go with 1982, they were still young and top of their powers. Thank you!
Definitely watch the performance also! And Silver Spring is soooo tense and emotional its a must watch! This whole album was made when Stevie Nicks and the guitarist Lindsey Buckingham were breaking up and Christine McVie and her husband were divorcing also he was the other guitarist (bass) which reaulted in one of the best albums created!
So, you've got a good ear because Lindsay Buckingham, singing lead on this, is the person who wrote and sings "Holiday Road" at the beginning of National Lampoon's Vacation. Everyone was on a lot of drugs back then but suffice to say he made this song to try to be a jab at Stevie Nicks and act like he was brushing him off, when he was the one who was hot and cold and treated her like garbage so she broke things off for good. There are interpersonal stories behind most every track on Rumors related to drama between the band members and people they were married to or involved with in and out of the group.
You must see the live performance performed in 1997, the song The Chain, the look of the two, Steve and Buckingam, in each line of the musical theme, bringing out the past conflicts they experienced...ufff, more rock than any band they all experienced.
There were three singers in this version of Fleetwood Mac. They were originally a blues band with a different lineup, but they are most famous for this lineup with Stevie and Lindsey. Christine sings lead on "You Make Loving Fun," which was also a hit. Definitely check out "Silver Springs." It was recorded ive. Lindsey and Stevie used to be a couple, and the whole Rumours album was them writing songs about their breakup. "Silver Springs" was left over and didn't make the record. They played it live when they reunited in 1997. They recorded a live album and DVD, called "The Dance." "Silver Springs" became a big hit. There is a noticeable tension between them during the performance, but I think they play that up a bit.
So glad you are getting to experience Fleetwood Mac..vocals and musically great. Can you react to the song "TUSK " haven't seen many reactions to it great song and different.
yes check the live out. For the most part this is another one of those bands that their live performances are every bit as good and normally better as they feed of the energy of the crowd.
when this album came out, you couldnt escape it. it was being played literally everywhere. (the band reworked the tapes so often in production that they actually began to wear out.) lindsey buckingham is the man. he recorded, sang, produced and made and kept them rich and famous for decades. probably the most fiery track on this album: just another day in life of a rock band tearing one another apart emotionally while recording a million-selling album...
My relationship with my father was not great. But we appreciated music together and Fleetwood Mac will always remind me of him. I had them play this son at his funeral.
Ken Caillet (producer) wrote a book about the production of the Rumours album in Sausalito, CA. It talks about how the members were talking to each other through these songs. The drama and emotions of 4 of the members going through heartache, divorce, becoming successful musicians, etc. It's a great window into that very special time (late 1970's) in a very special place. That recording studio is still alive and kicking today. Lindsey Buckingham sings lead on this song. He and Stevie Nicks were breaking up and were pretty much only speaking through their music. Don Henley of the Eagles was dueting with Stevie Nicks both musically and personally. Fleetwood Mac's previous album was climbing the US charts while they were making Rumours. Towards the end of production the previous album was exploding and making them superstars where Rumours then put them into outer space. Lindsey Buckingham still says today that this album taps into the voyeur in us. Since all the songs are a back and forth between the couples about loss, longing, lost love, etc.
'Holiday Road' by Lindsay Buckingham(of Fleetwood Mac). Good song, they didn't play it enough on the radio. The best scene in Vacation was at the amusement park entrance, with John Candy- hilarious!
One of the biggest classic albums of the '70s! As others have said, this album was ubiquitous when it came out. It was played at every party; everybody had it. I still have my copy of it on LP. No need to react to the performance; most of us didn't see bands perform unless we paid for a concert ticket. Our main experience with the music was what we heard on the radio and their records. The reason this reminds you of the "National Lampoon's Vacation" movie was that Lindsey Buckingham (the lead singer on this song, and guitarist for FM during this era) did that "Holiday Road" song that was the theme song to it. You should react to some early Fleetwood Mac, from the '60s and earlier '70s. They did a song called "Albatross" that circulates in my crazy inner jukebox every now and then. It's sublime and ethereal. For years, I didn't know what the song name was or who performed it, but the song was in my head. A lot of the stuff they did during the Bob Welch era, pre-Buckingham/Nicks, was also amazing: "Hypnotized" and "Bermuda Triangle" are two of my favorite songs by them. Other great songs from that era are "Dust" and "Bare Trees." Christine McVie did a fantastic vocal on "Spare Me a Little of Your Love" on the Bare Trees album and also on "Songbird" off this album. She had a beautiful alto voice. They also had a hit from the Bare Trees album with "Sentimental Lady". Such a rich catalog of music that was quite different in the band's different iterations!
The reason this resonates with people is that it's real and authentic - except For Adele I don't know any current singer songwriter that resonates with people

Watching the live performance from the concert The Dance is awesome. It will answer ALL of your questions about them if you just see how Lindsay and Stevie sing back and forth to each other. Silver Springs is another incredible song from that concert, too.
This has always been my favorite Fleetwood Mac song...👍You don't get the personal emotions going on behind the scenes without seeing it live., but I like this version the best for just listening to great music. Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham had a thing going on, then things went bad for them at the time they recorded this album. It's in the words. It shows.
The reason that this album sold so well was the fact that they all wrote about how messed up their lives together were and then had each other play on the song about themselves. I had this album in high school it was the first album i brought
It's always worth checking out three cuts - the original studio, the live from original release, and the live from the Dance in in 1997. The versions on the Dance are maybe slightly altered, but they show that the band was still capable of absolute home runs 20 years later.
First of all, the Rumours album is listed as one of the greatest albums of all time. Fleetwood Mac was made up of 3 guys and 2 women at this time. They were also in relationships with each other. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were late arrivers to the band. They rounded it out made it what they were on this album. Lindsey wrote this song about Stevie when they broke up becuase she was having a relationship with another member of the band. I think it was Mick Fleetwood. Basically he is telling her "fine, go your own way then. Get out." The real catch is Stevie sings backup on the song. Now, imagine writing a song telling your girlfriend to get out and she has to sing backup on the song each and every concert date. Most of the Rumours album is about each member of the group getting with another. That album is one big soap opera. And, that's what makes it great. Truth and honesty.
this album is in the top 10 best selling albums all time worldwide. (40 million) . this album beat out Steely Dans Aja and the Eagles Hotel California for the 1978 best album Grammy award
Lindsay Buckingham is who you are thinking of. He was the guitarist and sings on this track. He did the song "Holiday Road" for "National Lampoon's Vacation".
Lindsy Buckingham did perform Holiday Road which was the theme song for National Lampoons Vacation. Same voice, same performer, and truly the talent behind this version of Fleetwood Mac.
The three lead singers: Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and Christine Mcvie. It's time for you to enjoy the magic of Christine McVie who was the glue of the band in many ways. Her smooth vocals can be found in smash hits You Make Loving Fun, Over My Head, Don't Stop, Everywhere and Little Lies. The great thing about the band is they had three distinct voices to take or share lead vocals in their songs which was bona fide music Magic.
A great release from 1976, It was played on the radio continuously 27/7.At the time of this recording session(s) 4 members in the band were all in the process of divorcing each other . It comes across in the emotion captured on tape/record forever .
8:12 really enjoying your reaction and your comments about mixing and master. One thing for you to keep in mind is this was done on our 24 track analog, mixer, and recorded on real to real tape. Another reason it sounds different than modern production .
You're right about The Eagles. Both Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles were the 2 hottest bands simultaneously at the time. The sound of bands of each era always seem to have similar vibes. Thanks BP
Fleetwood Mac Rumours is one of the best albums of all time and will forever hold a special place in my heart
Long time the second best sold album in the world after "Thriller". Anyway, this might have been the biggest band in the world in that time slot (end seventies early eighties).
I like the self titled Fleetwood Mac album more than I like Rumours. The soft songs on that album are out of this world great.

She was so mad.

Silver Springs is her revenge song. 😡Great video of that one too.
Yup, Silver Springs. First time I watched it, I was so uncomfortable, like it was something private that nobody else should be seeing!!
The live performance of The Chain has similar energy.
Mick Fleetwoods tight drumming gives it a great backbone
The drumming in this song is insanely underrated. It's brilliant!

It shows.
I still have the original vinyl from 77. One Fleetwood's best albums. Saw them twice live. Great music!!!
I love the drums on this song!
The performance of this song is amazing. The looks between Lindsey and Stevie is intense.
The reason that this album sold so well was the fact that they all wrote about how messed up their lives together were and then had each other play on the song about themselves. I had this album in high school it was the first album i brought
I love Gypsy and Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Such great songs. Also Dreams and the Chain😊
Seen them in concert in the 80's and it was fabulous
One of my favorites! Rumors is one of the greatest albums of all time.
Fleetwood Mac is one of the best bands in the 70s and 80's. She is still singing today. Listen to it live GREAT!
this album is in the top 10 best selling albums all time worldwide. (40 million) . this album beat out Steely Dans Aja and the Eagles Hotel California for the 1978 best album Grammy award
I love their version of this song from the 1997 Dance Concert Tour.
It has the best sound on drums, bass, and guitar.
Go your own way live is awesome!!
The last riff between Lindsay Buckingham and Mick on the drums is just complete Fire. Lindsay was so underrated as a guitarist. He can really rock.
Buckingham is my favorite.. his unique guitar playing is easily recognized.
I saw them in concert in 1977 we were on the floor up front great concert. Lapoon I think it was in 1983 I believe this was the song
You need to hear all the songs on their Albums......All Awesome!!
Thanks BP
One of the top 10 albums ever IMO.
