Thanks Barratt this is a lifesaver. I've found it works on an adjustment clip placed on a track above, It then analyses the whole program.

This is so valuable, I always clip the shadows without even noticing

Yep, shadows tend to be a lot easier to miss than highlights

Awesome tool, thank you! Quick question...If I crush the blacks, I get purple bars on the sides of the image inside the node for the ClipSafe DCTL, which I'm guessing is intended to grab attention as a warning to keep information from being lost unintentionally. But I don't see anything similar for blowing out the highlights. Is this because blowing out the highlights is so easy to do, and that any clip with a reflection of the sun in something would probably trigger such a warning, thereby rendering it much less useful? Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestion! What you are seeing is normal behavior, but I'll keep an eye out for potential solutions with the highlights

False color plug-in in Resolve is customizable - Not sure how long it would take to set up almost exactly the same thing, but I bet you can.

Like that idea 👍🏻 I'll have to play around with it to see.
This project also serves as a way for me to just get better at building/using DCTLs. I don't have an extensive history with programming so it's an area of personal growth

@@BarrettKaufman I apologize that I failed to read the headline - I didn't realize that you were giving the DCTL out for free. Good on you for that

Hey! This is a great tool. I just loaded it up and am noticing something interesting...It's probably just a setting I have wrong in Resolve, but unless I move the threshold of white down and black up, it doesn't seem to work. For example, on a node prior to the DCTL, I reduced exposure all the way until the image was completely black. With the black threshold at 0, it doesn't show any indicators unless I raise it up to around 0.005. Happy to chat and send screenshots if that helps!

What settings (numbers) do you use for your black clipping and white clipping? Thanks Great work!

Many times I leave them at their defaults.
But will adjust the values if I need to check for something specific

Barrett: DCTLs: sooooo helpful! So practical. This, sez I, is the way of the future! The DCTL approach opens the door to NON_BREAKING TARGETED grade fixes. That is, DCTsL (many types!) allow precise adjustments to, say, red density in the highlights but also staying out of the mid or lower values. And they DON'T BREAK images (due to the way they work internally). Stefan Ringelschwandtner has many. Someday DCTLs will be common and a fraction of their current cost. Can you create more DCTLs? A couple hundred dollars for a robust package would be great (but not $1,000!). Can you do more of your great DCTL tools? Thanks! Mike

Well, I subscribed. But, you don’t give me much time to absorb what you just said. And, you zoom in too tightly for me to see where you are operating on the colour page, for example. I have Studio but as yet I have not opened the Colour page, so this plugin may indeed become really valuable to me.
