For this money you can buy so many good things. Several studio monoblocks and everything else to equip a small studio, a lot of optics and you will still have enough left over for a camera body of comparable capabilities.
I understand and agree with their point about it not being worth the price, and you can get cameras that perform the same or better for less money. However, I am having a hard time understanding why they don't apply that same logic to Leica's other cameras? He mentions how "the Q and M series are unique products that no one really touches". But he seems totally fine with them, and even thinks they're worth it by the sound of his other reviews. Seems like he just has a soft spot for rangefinders. I'd love to hear what makes those other cameras so unique though.
It’s because nobody else really makes anything like them. Using a separate viewfinder demands more internalization and visualization of the composition and it changes the way you shoot. We go slow, and steady; so the fast pace doesn't matter as much. I shoot a Z6 and the Hassy's (500c/m and H1&H2 )for film, and the H's for both film and digital, but I choose which depending on what I am shooting, the z6 is my speed demon, if I need to shoot fast, otherwise I go to the Hassy's for image Quality and bokeh, that the Nikon just can't match!, I don't have the noct, way to over priced, I get the fast aperture by the Hassy's bigger sensors, as F2 for these systems is more like a f 1.4.

One person in the target audience seems to be Peter Coulson, who uses Leica SLs for available light portraits and adapts his old manual vintage lenses to it. The selling points here are simply best in class EVF and best focus peaking and exposure warnings. Sure, a lot of money for a couple of small improvements compared to something Sony or Canon or Nikon, but this makes it clear, that it’s not a camera for general purpose shooters.
In my opinion, you can't really compare Leica to other camera brands. These days, Leica has evolved into a luxury brand, and most people don’t buy it for practical reasons. It’s like comparing a Ferrari to a Mazda-two completely different worlds. There’s no rational explanation for why someone would spend so much money on a Leica instead of another brand, and that’s precisely where Leica has positioned itself. Their appeal is driven by emotion rather than practicality. That’s a bit of a shame, though, because Leica’s origins are rooted in practicality. When Oscar Barnack invented the Leica, it was designed for highly functional, practical everyday use by normal people, who were tired of lugging around big, heavy cameras and tripods.
It's for people who buy Canada Goose jackets or G wagons.... believing that things that cost 3x as much makes them better, and need everyone to know it...
I guess I'm not the target audience for this but I do understand why someone would buy something like the M-11 and I still find myself thinking about how dumb this product seems only 4 minutes in. I just cannot fathom why anyone would choose to buy this over literally anything else in the price range or even a couple thousand less than this, it's a regular modern full frame body with a nice UI at a gigantic markup.
It's super niche. I can see why you'd choose a SL3 over a A7R5 for example, and that's not just to gain access to the arguably best full frame lenses in existence. The SL3s perhaps as an overpriced second camera for SL3 pros to use for backup or video purposes.
I'm not beyond spending stupid amounts for a camera. My street (and street only) camera is a Leica Q3 43. And I'm not completely opposed to 24MP. My primary professional camera is a 24MP Canon. But . . . I don't see anything special here. There's no excuse for rolling shutter distortion in a 24MP sensor. A Canon R1 is in the same price range and its technology is at least two generations more advanced. A Sony a9iii provides 24MP without ANY distortion! Those cameras make better images and it's easier to make them. To answer your question . . . no, this camera doesn't tempt me at all.
Just a suggestion. If you're going to use the light table background (dirtiest light table ever as well), photoshop out the tiny hairs. They are off putting. Always enjoy the videos.
At that price point, I'm better off looking for the Sony A1 mk 1, way way better and I'm saving money, the Leica "Looks" can be achieved in post despite what everyone says.

I have a Q3 for street. For other lenses I stick to my Nikon system...
A whopping 7 frames a second 14bit. Game changer.
thanks!!
We’re just leading up to the S1H2. That is the camera you’re all waiting for video. S1R2 for stills. They won’t do anything that sabotages those
Not that I use AF or video, but these results look 10 years old. Heck, the running test looks like an APS-C Rebel from 2009.
ill buy it when the sl4 comes out for half the price
Leica really hit it out of the ball park with this. A feature rich camera at a rock bottom price? I can definitely respect the hell out of that!
I totally agree, except in the case of the SL series, because this is like comparing an original Fiero to a Fiero with a Ferrari body kit on it.
It's for people who buy Canada Goose jackets or G wagons.... believing that things that cost 3x as much makes them better, and need everyone to know it...
I don't really mind paying Leica taxes, but technically behind, with little or no improvement over Panasonic siblings leave me baffled
The SL body still looks 3D printed.
S stands for sexy ? stupid ? superman ? sausage ?
Sausage !
i think Slighlty cheaper

Stupid Super Sexy 3S
Snobby.
Still that power button.
0:25 Yes, Yes, and a definite no

Just a suggestion. If you're going to use the light table background (dirtiest light table ever as well), photoshop out the tiny hairs. They are off putting. Always enjoy the videos.
It drives me mad, keep looking at them instead of the photos :)
why would you buy a private 747?
I would not buy this camera.
Okay.
Okay to you okay... okay?@mrherusantoso
Good for you
At that price point, I'm better off looking for the Sony A1 mk 1, way way better and I'm saving money, the Leica "Looks" can be achieved in post despite what everyone says.
I love my Leicas. This one? Not a chance. Too little…too late…too much.
