In Greek mythology, King Midas is known as a rogue ruler whose antics bemused his people and irritated the Gods. Many know the classic story of Midas's golden touch, but the foolish king was also known for his unusual pair of ears. Iseult Gillespie shares the myth of King Midas.

I’ve heard these variations too. Also his wife knew about his ears in most versions I’ve heard. I don’t think there is a singular ‘correct’ story but rather they convey the same message albeit sometimes in a darker manner.

Interestingly, the daughter isn't mentioned in the original story of King Midas and we're not really sure when she was added to the story but Nathaniel Hawthorne chose to include her in his telling if the story in "the wonder book for girls and boys" so it's possible that he came up with her. I love the fact that dispite it not being historical accurate to the antiquity, we retell the myth with the daughter cause it makes it a better story.

Just take a moment to appreciate the creativity of old myth. The barbers whispered into the ground and it grew a weed that his words would blow off of it into the wind. It's the kind of thought to make intangible things solid

Well the character in Fortnite named "Midas" from the battle pass when reaching tier 100 is based off of the real King Midas from greek mythology so not totally wrong their.

The second part of the myth (when Midas gets donkey ears) was made into a Portuguese fairytale called "Prince With Donkey Ears". In the version that I read, a king and a queen have a son, and they invite fairies to bless him with abilities (like Sleeping Beauty). The first two fairies blessed him with good stuff, and then, the third fairy is just like "I want you to have donkey ears."

In Terry Prachett's Discworld, the Seriph of Al-Ybi was cursed and everything he touched turned into Glod - a small and angry dwarf called 'Glod' from a another part of the world. This is because there was a typo when the cursing was done.

This second half of the story is very similar to a story named "the king and the tamarind drum" that I have heard before, a king who was so fond of himself that he said that he looks better than all the gods. Enraged at this statement the god made deformed him(donkey's ears), but he kept this as a secret and only his barber knew and the barber out of the wish to tell someone shouted it in a tree trunk. Sometime later the tree was made into a drum and as soon as it started playing, it shouted "our king has donkey's ears".

I learned about donkey-eared Midas in history class, the video is exactly as my teacher explained, thank you for your effort. If you come to Turkey one day, the place where Midas washed his hands is in Manisa. The villagers claim that there is still a glow there and that it is due to the gold flowing from Midas' hand.
This is where Aladdin comes in the hand of Midas it was like a Greek tale but in Aladdin they referred it to a hand. In English translation it basically means to make anything into money and people usually refer that to gold. It's nice to see where the origin came from and it's actually put into alot of movies especially pirate movies but named differently

In some versions he had three kids. Lityerses, a dangerous swordsman who killed travelers but was eventually beaten by a hero (I think Heracles) Zoe, his most well known and favorite child who was the daughter in the story and a second daughter who did not really do much.

My concern regarding having a home made of gold would be that of its chemical properties. If I’m not mistaken, gold is a soft, malleable metal-it will dent upon impact, and bend. Having the walls of your home possess those qualities sounds a bit inconvenient, not solely because of maintenance but also for their relative fragility when compared to rock.
