Nice find! My Mother’s Aunt had this same exact stereo with the sonic speakers! I got it after she passed and being young, it got abused and messed up. I still have the sonic speakers though. If only I could go back in time, I would have taken better care of it! Brings back memories!
Vintage is love.....Though with the time the technology has gone wireless and bluetooth etc....BUT there is no replacement to the beauty of a Vintage audio gear.
I love when I get paperwork with old electronics, especially catalogs. FYI: I was just on the shopgoodwill auction and they have the SB-84 speakers up for auction until tomorrow Aug 21st. Check it out it you still need them
I actually found a pair at a garage sale last labor day 2015 and made a video with them and the other items I bought that day.. They've popped up in a couple of other videos since then. I wonder how much the pair on Goodwill will go for? Thanks for watching and commenting!
margaretsville It's incredible that anyone would have kept the paperwork and manual for such a mundane (at the time) piece of electronic equipment which makes it special. It might be the ONLY original manual left for this model in the US.
@@watershed44 There was a marked tendency at the time for the original owner(s) to hang onto paperwork. After all, electronics like this were not the cheap and easily-replaceable commodities they are today. Long ago, stuff like this represented a significant investment, so paperwork was kept for warranty and repair purposes. It's a different world today; for the most part, 'repair' is not even an option, and if the item in question is old enough to have gotten a little dust on it, it's already out of warranty. TL;DR: It was WORTH keeping the paperwork back then. Not so much on today's goods.
wow early beginnings of Panasonic the dials brings back memories of my old morse electrofonic 8track all in one man they ve came a long way since that one one of my favorites ra -6300 that originally came with the thrusters speakers! the sg s !

Hi Dan - You did well for $10. Boy, sure would have been nice to have those speakers. I saw a unit close to that on Craigslist just a few weeks ago. He was asking too much, so I gave him my offer. He didn't take it, and said someone already said they'd take his price and is coming to pick it up. See ya -- Atco
I’m watching Hill Street Blues on Disney+ (S7 E13). Near the end of the episode, two police officers are listening to a jazz album playing on one of these machines. A Google Lens search lead me to this You Tube video.
You can also take some computer speakers with a subwoofer and stick them in the headphone jack. That way you'll never have to worry about hooking up speakers in back of the stereo. And you would probably get a better sound. Of course you would need to buy a bigger headphone plug.
Смотришь на всё это и диву даешься,70 годы. Что раньше мы были в жопе в этом отношении,что сейчас ещё глубже сидим,пока мы вооружались,они там развивались,всё для людей делали.
I had this little system (with the cylindrical speakers) all through high school and college. My only complaint is that the cheap BSR turntable slowly destroyed most of my vinyl records due to the heavy tracking weight of the tonearm.
The turntable on this one is actually an in-house unit built by Panasonic. The design was obviously inspired by the BSR minichanger, but it's totally different mechanically.
I also have this receiver and I have the speakers that came with the unit. My FM tuner pointer is off too, but my AM tuner pointer is right on. I have a video of mine if you wish to see it.
Nice. I found a pair of the speakers at a garage sale since then. I show them on my Labor Day Yard Sale Finds video. I'm going to make a video of the complete set some time this year.
Hi, I just recently got one and I was looking to replace the cartridge. I am very new to this kind of thing, so how would you recommend I go about replacing the cartridge? Thanks!
Are you sure you need an entire cartridge, or just the stylus? If you hit the pause button at about 5:28 in the video you can read the instruction manual about replacing the stylus. The manual says EPS-04ST, but you'd need to contact someone like the Voice of Music or Turntableneedles dot com for the modern replacement part (617-D7 maybe). If you need an entire new cartridge I don't have any information about that other than it's a ceramic one. It looks like it could unscrew from the top. The two websites I mentioned previously might be able to help you.
If the only thing you have to replace is the stylus then you need a flip over stylus lp one side and 78 on the flip side Lp/78 If not then to need to replace the cartridge that's compatable with a flipover stylus BTW.. those old 78s like any other 78 rpm records are not intended to be played on a microgroove stylus, ment only for 45rpm records or 33 3/3 lps...
As far as the cartridge/stylus you can probably get a new one from someplace like the Voice of Music or Turntable Needles dot com. As for the motor or other parts it's typical to find a donor unit to scavenge from, like a parts unit on eBay.
Sorry, I can tell you are trying to translate your language into English, but "capsules" isn't a word that is used for stereos. Could you mean "speakers"?
The SD-84 Instructions say the needle is the EPS-04ST. The website Turntable Needles dot com says the modern needle is the 617-D7 ($10). I suspect by "capsule" you mean "cartridge", the piece that the needle fits in. I don't know any information on that except it seems to be called a general "ceramic" cartridge.
well it is what it is nothing great but it will I guess work ok . the turntable is not reliable like crosley and this is a bottom of the barrel unit . the older 78 records do not have a lead in groove the majority do but the older ones like you used do not . but if you like it enjoy it thank you for sharing
+Dan O'Connor I just purchased a set of 78s that were pressed for record changer which strangely had no lead in grooves but had the modern lead out/stop groove.
"Brazilian wax" and other hair removal procedures are performed on ladies (usually) in a type of beauty salon here. Having "brazilian" in the name makes them sound special I guess. That's my general understanding anyway. The procedures sound painful.
Just found one for $50 on Facebook marketplace. Fully functional ❤
A functional one is like $200 on ebay w/shipping
I still have mine, with the sonic speakers. I bought it new with my newspaper route money. About $100 back then. Lots of teenage memories. :)
My mom had this stereo w/ the sonic speakers and the panasonic stacker for 45's....

exactly 🥰
Hill Street Blues brought me here (season 7 episode 13). I'm a little surprised I found it so fast.

Thats some badass Warped records you have there! :)

Beautiful piece. Love the dials.
1970 must be the last year Panasonic used their old logo, because I have a Panasonic stereo system from 1971 and it uses the new logo.

I saw one of these at my local thrift ship today. It was missing the record changer with a pieceof wood filling in the gap.
The changer looks something like the one in that Magnavox compact stereo you did a video on

Are you using the correct needle for a 78? That could be why - it uses a different needle
what kind of speakers do you use with this? We have the same model but are not sure of what kind of speakers to get...
Any pair of speakers with "RCA" plugs (also known as "Phono" plugs) on the ends of the wires will work.

Those old early 1900 78s don't have a lead in or end groove...ment only for wind up Victrolas..
Do you live in Indianapolis? I heard Tom from the Bob & Tom show. BTW those FM and AM dials are pretty neat. You don't see those anymore.

I remember watching The Mary Tyler Moore show in the early 70s and in her apartment she had the same type of record player...
i had a se840 as a kid back then lucky man
...a lucky man indeed!
I also have this receiver and I have the speakers that came with the unit. My FM tuner pointer is off too, but my AM tuner pointer is right on. I have a video of mine if you wish to see it.

Got the same but with old "National" logo, before it changed to Panasonic.
Very nice!!
So cool! I am keeping my eyes open this summer while house-saling for an old LP player. Got to many 80's LPs from the flea market.
i need a radio with cassette player
Why is it this model not as sought after as others as far as comps it looks very cool all most like a car dash...

Good video, the device is well preserved!
Where do you come from?
i had an allied receiver that had a nonfunctional stereo fm indicator so i replaced the socket and bulb with a wired bulb
Que hermoso equipo
I just got one. Do you know where I could get parts for it? It works just curious.

Dan O'Connor thanks Dan! I was searching online and I think I found the proper stylus. Great video by the way!!!
wich are capsules are compatibles for sd-84?
Sorry, I can tell you are trying to translate your language into English, but "capsules" isn't a word that is used for stereos. Could you mean "speakers"?
needle compatible for sd-84? and capsules?

the Columbia radio might have been made by matsushita

Similar to a SP-980
this used to be mine

I laughed a lot here, I thought they were talking about the troubled brazilian politics, thanks for the information!
