    THANK YOU !!!! for making a point of telling viewers where NOT to put brake grease !!! You put the proper "COPPER" brake lube ( Coppaslip is another good product that has been around forever that can be used and also has many other applications for use ) EXACTLY where it should go ! if I had a dollar for every diy brake job that the owner thought it would be a good idea to cover EVERYTHING in silicone brake grease ( intended for rubber parts like on pin bushings on floating style callipers )or antisieze...... What do I know though I was just a stupid mechanic for 35+ years 😃

    You simply have to talk about the ZR1 NEEDING octane booster for full power. This is something that isn't discussed, and Motor trend tested this car on 91 octane in California. I have never heard about this until the RPM motorsports video. You were the only one posting videos of ZR1s tuning capabilities, and that makes you ZR1 central still.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад +1

      I wouldn't say it NEEDS it but if you aren't going to add meth or tune for race gas then it's a way around the 93 octane restriction from what I saw on the RPM channel. It does help quite a bit WITH tuning but without an aftermarket tune, I don't think it would help much.

    Sorry if slightly off topic, but a quick question for you RE: splash guards. Are the ACS guards that much better than the GM guards? I’m wrestling with how much they stick out from the fender and the price being ridiculously high. I know it’s cheaper than paint repair, but if you or your subscribers can weigh in, that’d be appreciated.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад +1

      I had the GM guards on my C7 Z06 before getting the ACS guards and yes, they are that much better lol. The GM guards aren't as nice looking and they don't provide anywhere near the same amount of protection. I'd definitely get the XL guards from ACS if you care at all about your paint.

  • @TheWolfMatt
    @TheWolfMatt Год назад +1

    Nice work on the brakes and lowering the Z. Have you given thought to putting the "Red Stuff" brake pads from EBC? I had to go that route on my 17 ZL1 which also uses the Brembo brakes. Also, putting a light layer of ceramic coating over the calipers keeps them nice and red and soooooo much easier to clean when they collect brake dust and grime, just spray and let dry. Any news on the C6Z?

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад +2

      I don’t really want to change the brake pads because of the fact they are carbon ceramic rotors. I don’t like the idea of any other compounds digging into it or anything like that. My red calipers are already ceramic coated so they’re pretty easy to keep clean usually. Nothing new on the Z yet…

    • @TheWolfMatt
      @TheWolfMatt Год назад

      @@HorsePowerObsessed Sounds good to me bud. Wasn't sure if they changed the compounds out between Brembo and EBC, I think it's more of a track day pad either way. I had found that the EBC's don't' squeal after a good heat soak vs the Brembo pads did. Is the same true for the Carbon Ceramic rotors?
      Keep the content coming bud. Been enjoying what you guys put up.

  • @TheRobSJ
    @TheRobSJ Год назад +1

    The clicking showed up on my ZR1 after my first track day. Got the brakes suuuuper hot.
    As an auto technician, I’ve dealt with this l clicking noise on other kinds of vehicles. It’s typically taken care of by loosening and retorquing the fasteners that hold the brake disc to the hat. Been too lazy to try this on my own car, but typically this is what fixes this issue.
    So I’ll be interested to hear if you solved the clicking on yours with the spacer and the whole spring cleaning you did there.
    PS brake parts cleaner is not a good idea to have come in contact with the painted brake caliper. The acetone in brake cleaner will dull/oxidize the paint finish of left on there too long.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад +2

      That's interesting. The clicking for me was there from day 1 and cleaning the surfaces of the wheel/rotor face fixed the issue for about a month but then it would come back which tells me it's not a tightness issue but maybe a dirt issue?
      I cleaned everything afterwards with a PH neutral soap and water so anything left over would be washed away for this exact reason. I didn't want anything left behind to possible etch into anything.

    • @TheRobSJ
      @TheRobSJ Год назад

      @@HorsePowerObsessed Could be a dirt issue. When I do the procedure with the brake disc/hat fasteners, I’m cleaning everything as I go. So maybe I am inadvertently fixing the noise with the cleaning instead of the actual mechanical procedure?
      So yes, very curious to see if your noise goes away now. I highly doubt that the wheel spacer is going to be the reason if it does. So if it’s just a matter of cleaning everything real good? Well that’s awesome because that all needs to be cleaned anyways, so killing two birds with one stone is always good.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад +1

      The only problem with that is that I’ve done the cleaning multiple times, and the noise always returns after about a month. I’m hoping something will give here.

    • @TheRobSJ
      @TheRobSJ Год назад

      @@HorsePowerObsessed Some heat cycles of the brakes, some brake dust buildup, maybe something shifts…could be more than a single reason.
      One thing that for sure makes it go away is replacing the rotors. Obviously this is not a very economical way to fix a fairly harmless noise, but I’ve had one deep pocketed customer do just that. So whatever the cause, it is somewhere on the rotor. Perhaps the inside flange of the rotor hat to hub flange surface? But the hat/disc fastener thing has been reasonably successful for me on many other Brembo CCB setups. Maybe give it a try if your clicking comes back in a month?

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад

      You were the first to recommend that, so I will definitely give it a try because I’ve tried everything else. Do you think just retorquing them would be enough?

  • @justinreid8851
    @justinreid8851 Год назад +1

    Hey Justin wheel when you installed your spacers did you also have to install longer studs or will the oem studs work out? I really want the tires to be flush with the fenders so would these spacers accomplish that? Also i want to lower my z51 c7 7sp but was wandering if I would need any type of alignment? Love your c7 zr1 content. Thanks for owning a roll your own gears type of corvette.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  Год назад +1

      To be safe you want to have 5 full turns on your lug studs and I had 5.5 so from what I understand, I'm safe. Longer studs are always a good idea but with these being just 1/4" I didn't see the need. These spacers push the wheel to perfectly flush with the front fenders so they will accomplish what you want to accomplish. I DO need an alignment after this, my current tires are shot anyway so I will get one once I get new tires.
